In Daydreams, I See Oceans of Shimmer: The Glossy, Glittery Glossimers From the New Chanel Revelation Collection

April 11th, 2013 by Karen 46 Comments

Chanel Daydream Glossimer
Starring in a reverie near you, Chanel’s $29.50 Daydream Glossimer…

“When in doubt, Chanel it out.”

Wouldn’t that look great on a t-shirt? Or a bumper sticker? Or maybe tattooed on a Chanel addicted beauty fanatic’s inner wrist (in sans serif font, of course)?

This, my friend, is my new makeup mantra: “When in doubt, Chanel it out.”

It occurred to me earlier this week — a revelation of sorts — as I was trying to figure out to wear to that work lunch I went in the city last Tuesday.

I was stumped and rutting around through my makeup drawer. Couldn’t figure out what I wanted to wear, and then I remembered the quad and blush from the spring 2013 collection and spotted one of the new Glossimers from the new Chanel Revelation collection.

“When in doubt, Chanel it out.”

Oh, babe! The spring collection’s glosses, and that Taboo nail polish, are fodder for daydreams. Think glossy, glittery lips and rich, interstellar indigo tips that twinkle like little stars.

For the season, Coco’s crew positioned the Glossimers as essentials for your makeup kit, like must-have purses and shoes — wearable, flexible, because they can go with so many different outfits and looks. The collection includes a mix of 10 new and re-promoted glosses, some of them on the sheer, subtle side, like sheens, and others sparkly metallics.

New Glossimers Are Growing at Chanel in the Roses Ultimes de Chanel Collection

February 20th, 2012 by Karen 28 Comments

Wearing Chanel Roses Ultimes de Chanel Glossimer in Jalousie on my lips

Quick! — what’s the first flower that comes to mind when you think of Coco Chanel? If you said “camellias,” there’s a good reason for that. They were her signature bloom. Now, whenever I see one I think, “How very Chanel!” 🙂

This time, however, for Chanel’s latest makeup collection, camellias take a bow, and roses take center stage.

Glossimers and nail colors are blooming in the 10-piece, limited edition Roses Ultimes de Chanel, available now at Chanel counters and online. It features six thick, sticky Glossimers ($29.50 each) and four Les Vernis Nail Colors ($26 each) in springy shades of pink, peach and coral.

For the record, I have a thing for Glossimers. I’ve fallen for many of them before, and like those, these have that same thick, sticky consistency and unscented, unflavored formula that lasts from 3-4 hours.

Lately, I’ve been supervising visits between my lips and four of the six Glossimers from Roses Ultimes de Chanel, and so far everyone’s really getting along. 🙂

These vary in coverage, but I like how springy they feel without going down the typical spring pastel route.

For daytime errands, I’ve been grabbing the two lighter shades, creamy, peachy pink Plaisir and creamy coral Voluptè. Both are semi-sheer and oh, so easy to wear.

If you prefer more dramatic Glossimers and don’t mind having to do some light maintenance (may need to use a lip liner and do frequent check-ups), look for shimmery pink Dèsir (has the most prominent glitter of these four, and I can just barely feel it on my lips) and the potently pigmented fuchsia Jalousie. Both seem to take a little more babying than Plaisir and Voluptè, but WOW! — what an impact.

Is Chanel Recycling Good Ideas? Aragonite Glossimer vs. NARS Moon Fleet

January 5th, 2011 by Karen 46 Comments

Yesterday I almost judged a book by its cover. After reader Mahnaz asked how Aragonite, one of the new Glossimers from the Chanel Les Perles de Chanel spring collection, compared to NARS Moon Fleet, my initial reaction was, “Uh oh! Chanel must have copied NARS.”

NOTE: If you’re interested, you can see swatches of the entire Les Perles de Chanel collection at the bottom of this post.

But then I pulled out both colors and gave the question more thought. Both shades are related, but NARS Moon Fleet, a permanent color from the line, is a sheer and shimmery yellow gold, and I think it looks much darker and yellower than Aragonite does.

What about other possible Aragonite dupes? Hmm… How about Chanel Glossimer in Galactic (circa 2007)?

First cousins, perhaps?

Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star: Star Glossimer from the Chanel SoHo Collection

September 23rd, 2010 by Karen 31 Comments

chanel soho star glossimer review swatches

A glittery pinkish purple lipgloss? Yes, please!

And the fact that this one’s also a Chanel Glossimer doesn’t hurt — well, except for the $27 price. That part hurts, but overlooking the way in which that makes my tummy churn, yippee!

She’s called Star, and like her namesake she’s all about the sparkle (with a very light tint). We’re talking good glitter here, very fine, and it doesn’t migrate around my lips.

Star feels thick and slightly sticky to me with a wear time around 90 minutes (mediocre for a gloss), and I’m glad that Chanel kept her scent- and flavor-free.

Chanel Les Contrastes de Chanel Collection Fall 2010 Glossimers: Kiss Me, Please!

June 23rd, 2010 by Karen 41 Comments

Chanel Les Contrastes de Chanel Collection Fall 2010 GLOSSIMER

Evenin’, ladies! I couldn’t wait to show you these four new limited edition (I just found out these are being added to Chanel’s permanent line up, yay!) Chanel Glossimer shades from the upcoming Les Contrastes de Chanel fall collection ($30 each). If peach, pink and coral glosses quicken your pulse like they do mine, you just might want to take a few deep breaths before you s c r o l l …

Teaser, my favorite one of these non-sticky cuties, is a vivid, can’t-miss-me rosy pink with golden iridescence, but if you prefer glosses with a quieter vibe (shh), there’s always Petite Peche (a sheer but shimmery pale peach), Coral Love (a sheer but shimmery coral with golden iridescence) or Rose Dilemma (a sheer and shimmery mid-tone bluish pink). Each adds a faint whisper of color with plenty of shine.

Chanel Venice Collection Fall 2009: Hot Glossimers

July 13th, 2009 by Karen 39 Comments

Chanel Glossimer in Courtisane

Coco and company cooked up two seriously *hot* Glossimers for their fall 2009 Venice collection.

Both Courtisane and Arlequin ($27 each) inject a hint of golden warmth to lips, balancing out the cool green and gray shades for eyes.

I love both of these Glossimers because they aren’t your typical fall lip fare.

Unusual for fall

Courtisane’s a hot pink with gold pearl; Arlequin’s a shimmery peachy gold. Makeup lines usually release darker, vampier lip colors in shades of berry, plum and red for fall, so I was pleasantly surprised to see shimmery glosses in golden hues.

And both of these could easily pass for summer colors, too. No reason at all to wait for autumn leaves. 🙂

Courtisane is my favorite of the two. She’s richly pigmented — more so than most of the Glossimers I’ve tried — but the color’s not so bright or shimmery that it’s difficult to wear. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+

Arlequin, a peachy golden pink with bronze glitter, is the warmer of the two shades. She’s sheerer than Courtisane, but her glitter might deliver a nice pop of shimmer when layered atop bronze, peach or brown lipstick.Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+

A lil’ something for everyone

Even though Chanel stocked the Venice collection with a *ton* of cool shades, I’m glad they decided to throw in some warmer lip shades, too.

I really like the gold in these, but what do you think?

Dental Dalliances, Part 12

This summer is turning out to be my summer o’ teeth trubs… Yup, I’m heading back to the dentist this afternoon, aka my home away from home. This time I’m assured there there won’t be any injections up in the mix!
