A Glittery Green and Gold St. Patrick’s Day Look with Milani and MAC

March 16th, 2010 by Karen 118 Comments

Hawaiian fun fact of the day: It’s not unusual to meet mixed race islanders. The state’s basically a big ol’ melting pot! It’s one of the things I love about Hawaii. 🙂 Ask a local their nationality, and they’ll usually rattle off a long list.

El Hub happens to be one of those kids, and his laundry list of nationalities includes Irish… I’m sure you see where this is going, LOL!

Every St. Patrick’s Day, he gets the urge to celebrate, and I get to be Irish for a day!

On the agenda for tomorrow night: a pub that serves green beer, and since I want to look the part, this morning I worked on my St. Patrick’s Day green and gold eye look using MAC and a mix of new drugstore stuff from Milani.

Cheeks: MAC Blush Ombre in Ripe Peach; Lips: MAC Lip Pencil in Mouth Off, MAC Lipstick in Victorian, MAC Naked Honey Salve

Eyes: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Eden (entire eyelid), Milani Liquif Eye Metallic Eye Liner Pencil in Gold (enter eyelid and lower lash line), Milani Infinite Liquid Eye Liner in Eternal (on lid and barely into the crease), Milani Liquif Eye Metllic Eye Liner Pencil in Black (waterlines and upper lash line), Milani Crystal Eyez in Gorgeous & Glowing (on lid), MAC Fix Studio Lash in Black (upper and lower lashes)

MBBTV #5: Urban Decay Eden Eyeshadow Primer Potion

March 16th, 2010 by Karen 60 Comments

Um … in case you were wondering, I *do* shower and change on a daily basis, 🙂 despite the fact that I’m wearing the same black shirt and gold necklace in this video, LOL! What I did was record a few videos at the same time.

Episode 5 links and notes

  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Eden ($18)
  • Previous look at Eden on MBB

Note: I checked the ingredient list of both of the products, and it *does* appear as though UD changed the formula.

Ingredients in Eden: Isododecane, Cyclopentasiloxane, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Polyethylene, Triethylhexanoin, Trihydroxystearin, Isopropyl Lanolate, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, VP/Eicosene Copolymer, Talc, Dimethicone, PEG-40 Stearate, Phenoxyethanol, Synthetic Beeswax, Propylene Carbonate. May Contain: CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77491/77492/77499 (Iron Oxides).

Ingredients in Original Primer Potion: Isododecane, Talc, Cyclopentasiloxane, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Trihydroxystearin, Triethylhexanoin, Isopropyl Lanolate, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, VP/Eicosene Copolymer, Dimethicone, PEG-40 Stearate, Propylene Carbonate, Phenoxyethanol, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Propylparaben, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Methicone, Isobutylparaben. May Contain: Mica, CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499 (Iron Oxides), CI 77163 (Bismuth Oxychloride).

About video, I’m really starting to have fun with them again, spending too much time as usual. El Hub wonders what I’m up to sometimes when I’m in my office and talking with the camera running at midnight, ha!

Do you guys have a preference between YouTube, Vimeo or another video site? I’ve been partial to Vimeo because I like the design of their player (pink!) and the site itself. I also really dig the kinds of videos they attract (lots of indie creative pros and artsy stuff), but YouTube doesn’t charge for HD plays. Vimeo does, which kinda blows.

I’m still going to post videos on both sites (here’s my YouTube channel and Vimeo page), but I may just embed them with for a while.

YouTube veterans, can you suggest any tips/tricks or makeup gurus I should subscribe to? I’m a YouTube noob. I’m learning as I go along. Thanks in advance. 🙂

Karen

MAC Give Me Liberty of London: Dirty Plum

March 16th, 2010 by Karen 8 Comments

Dirty Plum ($18.50) does not mess around in the pigmentation department. It goes on really dark! I’ve been applying it in layers with a fan brush, which seems to make using it easier. It takes time, though, and lots o’ blending.

MAC Give Me Liberty of London: Free To Be

March 16th, 2010 by Karen 4 Comments

MAC Give Me Liberty of London

I was kind of surprised with the wearability of Free to Be ($14.50). It’s a matte coral, which I originally thought might be hard to work with, but it’s super creamy and blends like a dream. I’ve been loving it in the crease!

The Bowlcut Is Baaaack!

March 15th, 2010 by Karen 21 Comments

The year was 1980; the place, Union City, California. American figure skater Dorothy Hamill was a superstar, as was the bowlcut she wore. I remember because I rocked it, hard. 🙂 Well … as hard as a kindergartner could, ha ha!

What once was old is new again. Ladies, the bowlcut is baaaack.

I think I’ll pass this time, though. I thought it was quite fetching when I was five, but now? Been there, done that.

Return of the Bowl Haircut

by Megan McIntyre, Daily Makeover

The bowl cut, which has been a popular hairstyle in decades past, seems to be enjoying a comeback of sorts as a bevy of hip, young celebs have been seen sporting the look around town.

One glance at this retro round bob probably has you wondering what could possibly prompt chic young ladies like Agyness Deyn, Estelle, Parker Posey and Christina Ricci to don a short hairstyle that gives off such a distinct whiff of 70’s cheese.

We definitely never thought we’d be seeing a good chunk of Hollywood embrace the rounded bangs, but we’re even more shocked to say that we kind of like the look.

It’s got a slightly sexy, a little bit brooding, definitely retro vibe that keeps our eyes entranced.

Part of this reason, at least according to celebrity hairstylist Sam Brocato, is that the cut practically begs you to stare at its wearer’s face.
