March 12th, 2012 by Karen 76 Comments

too faced summer 2012

Not yet past the vernal equinox, and the beauty world is already buzzing about summer?

It’s enough to drive a girl to…the closest Sephora. 🙂

And this year, the calendar-crushing makeup lovers at Too Faced are leading the charge with a six-piece summer collection of products for eyes, face and body. A few of the pieces, like the Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzing Powder, are available now online, but the bulk of the release is still en route to Sephora stores and counters. ETA: very soon.

Here are pics and swatches of five of the six pieces from the release. Have a look-see, and let me know what you think.

      Hi Milly,

I tried it this afternoon for the first time. I think I’ll need to spend a little more time working with it. The process is kinda complicated, and I wanted my lashes to look a little longer We’ll see.

Then have some nice pieces. I like their bronzers and lipglosses. Some of the palettes, like this one, are a lot of fun, too. Oh, and of course there’s their fab Shadow Insurance primer, which is also great.

I always seem to pass by Too Faced products when at Ulta or Sephora, maybe nothing’s piqued my interest before? My mother has the Natural Eye palette and loves it.

I have to say, these swatches do have me interested a little more than the past palette offerings. Is it just me or do the colors seem a bit more varied than usual?

I really enjoy Too Faced! I just discovered it fairly recently, but everything I’ve tried has been really impressive. That’s only three products, though: Beach Bunny bronzer, Shadow Insurance primer in Lemon Drop, and Celebrity Meltdown lipstick. I’m definitely planning to pick up that eye palette, though! And if that Pure primer is silicone-free, it’s going on my list.

I’m always being temped by their powder shadows, they have some nice pairings and some gorgeous colors but my experience with them has been less than stellar, I find they are prone to fading and creasing more than similarly priced competitor brands.

On the other hand, their eyeshadow primer is my HG, and their cream shadows based on the primer are pretty sweet too! I’m very hot and cold with Too Faced, so they are products that I would definitely give a chance and am tempted by, but will always try before buying!

The Coconut Oil Body Bronzer looks super pretty! I started using Too Faced Shadow Insurance after I broke 2 of Urban Decay’s old Primer Potion genie bottles and I quite liked it (though I did return to my beloved UDPP once they released it in tube form!). I was also lucky enough to have 500 points at Sephora when they had the Too Faced Eye Love Palette perk and I love it 🙂

I’m really a fan of the idea of their boxed palettes, but I just returned the Matte Eye today :/. The pigmentation just wasn’t up to par on my NC30 skin. A total bummer, because it really was a good range of shades in there, and I love mattes. I’m really intrigued by the Summer Eye though, what do you think of the quality of the shadows?

I’ve never been so in love with one of Too Faced’s palettes. I could do without the Classic Eye but the other two looks are beautiful. Is that a new version of Chocolate Soleil or is it the same one being re-promoted for summer? It looks a little bit lighter… If so, I’m all over that! My NC15 skin is terrified of most bronzers, I can’t seem to make them work.

I have the ‘Naked’ pallette, which is my ‘work’ colours of pinks, creams, browns and taupes. I love it, but think it’s fairly ‘entry-level’ make-up: perhaps not for you make-up aficionados! If you stick to the looks in the accompanying booklet, it’s impossible to stuff it up, which is what I need, in the morning. 😀

Ooo I am really coveting this palette! Maybe I’ll use the 20% off I got from Too Faced in my Vintage Sale order…

Overall, Too Faced is one of my favorite brands. It took me by surprise because I found the aesthetic of some of the packaging off putting at first, but it turns out that doesn’t really say anything about the contents. Now I use the Primed and Poreless primer (returned the Hourglass primer in favor of this), Shadow Insurance, the new Tinted Beauty Balm, and their eyeshadows everyday.

I would love to see some looks with this palette, Karen! Can’t wait for your reviews of the other products in the Summer collection 🙂

Oh my gosh, thanks for swatching this new palette Karen. I’ve stayed away from my temptation to pick up a Two-faced palette but I’m giving in to this one. I find that in general, Two-Faced has some very high quality products in their line (the eyeshadows always tend to be quite pigmented and smooth for me), but they tend to play it safe with colour and stick close to neutrals. This palette seems a bit unique from what they mostly release, so I feel like it’s a must-have!

This palette looks lovely. I’ve never bought a Too Faced palette before – though I really wanted the Sweet Dreams one that came out last year 🙁

Though I not normally a fan of pink eyeshadows, this seems like it would suit someone like me (I’m dark-skinned – MAC wise I range from nw40-43). Too Faced seems to have become increasingly difficult to get hold of here in UK. Before Boots and Debenhams used to have them but now I can only find it in selected Boots stores. Luckily I still have my Mood Swing lipgloss!
