A Liner Poseidon Would Use: The New Trident Shaped 3*Way Lash Lining Tool From Too Faced Creates Thicker, Fuller Lashes

I need another black liquid liner like I need another reason to watch Magic Mike! — but that’s not stopping me from wanting another black liquid liner, especially a good one with the power of innovation. 🙂

Fellow liner lover, walk with me for a bit as we bat our lashes at the new 3*Way Lash Lining Tool from Too Faced ($22).

Do you suffer from chronic tardiness? (I do!) Thin lashes got you down? (Yup!)

If you answered in the affirmative to either of those inquiries, Too Faced feels they can help, and their solution takes a three-pronged approach.

The new 3*Way has a three-pronged tip — kinda like a trident — designed to create the illusion of a full lash line; the product doubles (triples?) as a liquid liner to draw both thin and thick lines, hence the name.

It works like this: starting at one end of your upper lash line, place the prongs at the base of your lashes between the roots. Gently apply pressure to dispense the liquid, stamping three black dots. Repeat along the full length of your lash line, filling in the spaces between your lashes.

When you’re done, your lash line should look a whole lot thicker.

Alternately, to use the 3*Way as a liquid liner for super skinny lines, just drag the edge of one of the three tips along your lash and water lines, or for thicker lines, like for cat eyes, make contact with all three tips placed flat.

Now, dotting liner along the base of your lashes and between the roots isn’t a new trick. Sometimes it’s referred to as “backing the lashes,” and truth be told, most any black liner, be it liquid or pencil, can deliver a similar effect.

But Too Faced took an interesting approach with their three-pronged tip, and it’s a design I can’t recall ever seeing before. It does seem to make the process of getting between my roots easier and quicker.

As a liner, I think 3*Way excels at drawing super skinny lines. It struggles a little when it comes to thicker cat eyeliner looks, drawing edges that aren’t extremely crisp, so for those, I’ll stick to my good ol’ LORAC Front of the Line Pro.

With 3*Way, Too Faced has a fun little tool on its hands — a nifty extra, especially for the lash obsessed!

Oh, Brother

I’m almost ashamed to admit this (almost), but I’ve watched Will Ferrel’s Step Brothers three times since last week…

I skipped it in theaters when it came out a few years back figuring it would be totally dumb (which it…nevermind), but I Tivo’d it just for kicks, and um…I LOVE IT!

What am I? A 13-year-old boy?

Oscar bait it ain’t, but I laughed out loud the first time I watched it.

If you’re looking for a pick-me-up that requires very little (or zero) brain power, there’s a good chance it’ll put a smile on your face. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

This is really nice, and I can see people who don’t want to use a push liner brush lining up for this.

Count me interested! Karen, any thoughts on the staying power of this liner? I’m hoping it’s long-wearing and won’t smear. I always have a tough time dotting my eyelashes. Especially when using liquid or gel because it gums up my lashes. But this looks fascinating!! I love that it will dot exactly where you place it. Thing I gotta run over to Sephora right now.

That is a way cool eye tool–I think I might pick this one up. It reminds me of the Crayola magic markers about 15-20 years ago that had the different tip cut-outs. I have fond memories of those.

Thanks for reviewing this! I am always looking for ways to make my lash line look fuller. Right now I use black eye liner or the Laura Mercier cake liner. I’m adding this to my list of things to try.

Step Brothers is hilarious! Will Ferrell cracks me up, but I also liked him in Stranger than Fiction, which is a more serious movie. Another 13-year old boy movie that makes me laugh is Walk Hard w/ John C. Reilly.

Hope you’re having a good day. Almost Friday! 🙂

Thanks for the movie rec. I’ll have to see if I can Netflix it soon.

I second “Stranger than Fiction.” I became a fan of Will Farrell in Old School but then got sick of him when he started popping up in so many movies, it was just oversaturation I guess. I gave Stranger than Fiction a chance and was pleasantly surprised.
It’s not a typical role for him at all, he’s so good in it that I forgot it even was him. It’s quirky and enjoyable to watch! Let us know what you think if you end up watching it.

I received an email from Too Faced advertising this liner and I was, and still am intrigued. I think it’s something I’d have to try out before I buy. I’m not sure if I’ll have a hard time applying it or not.
I love Step Brothers! We bought it having no idea what to expect, but it has easily become one of my favorite movies. Theres way too many hilarious parts like when they make bunk beds, when Derick and his family sing in the car, or when they interview with Pam who they call Pan. I also love Talledaga Nights. Another funny movie with Will Ferrell and John C. Reily.

SERIOUSLY, I’ve started quoting it in casual conversation. It’s all down hill from here!

      “Pand. There’s a D on the end.”

      “So many activities!”

“This is gonna sound weird, but for a second, I think you took on the shape of a unicorn.”

      LOL!

I have 17 yr old, 12 yr old and 38 yr old (the Hubs :)) boys in the house who LOVE Stepbrothers and Talladega Nights. They really go for Adam Sandler in anything, too!

Huh, that’s interesting! If I didn’t know any better, I’d say it was a gimmick–but judging by the flick at the end of your line, I guess it works!

      Hi Becca,

I used the skinny side of the liner to get that flick. 🙂

Are you a pen liner kinda girl?

The three-prong design is actually not new, it has been done before by a Japanese drugstore brand Kate for its Frame Impact Marker released in 2011.

It looks interesting! I haven’t had much luck with eyeliner pens, though. They don’t wear well or show up on my lashlines/waterlines. It’s probably the most interesting type of eyeliner I’ve seen though! Thanks for the review 🙂

I’ve never tried a cake liner, but sometimes I’ll wet an angled brush and use eyeshadow as a liner. I would think it would have a similiar effect, right?

I think this is not entirely new. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a Japanese (or Korean? Sorry but I can’t remember too well) brand launching an eyeliner like that! I wouldn’t mind giving it a try, but a liner that only lasts for 6 hours simply isn’t worth it in my book!

Laura Geller came out with a three-pronged eyebrow pen recently. I think the idea is neat for both brows and lining eyes.

Shockingly, I have not seen Step Brothers, but I will. Because I am also a 13 year old boy (and I love Anchorman). 🙂

It’s sad, but I was a little afraid of the trident. I think I’d have a hard time doing a decent cat eye with Front of the Line, forget about a 3-pronged tool of terror!

Oh, and happy 4th of July weekend. I hope you guys have a good time with cookouts, parades and fireworks! 🙂

Do you really like it? I got one from Kanebo KATE (looks and works exactly the same way) and it was such a waste of money! It took too long to make it work, I just didn’t have that amount of patience to dot dot dot little by little. Would choose a gel liner any day!
