The Ecotools Retractable Kabuki Brush Will Sneak Up on Ya

February 2nd, 2009 by Karen 31 Comments

Doesn’t the Ecotools Recycled Retractable Kabuki Brush ($10) look like a secret spy weapon?

LOL! Or is that just me?

Okay, so it’s not a flame thrower or a pocket super computer, but the Retractable Kabuki exudes awesomeness in other ways. It’s built for travel, fitting snugly into my makeup bag.

I like the fat and fluffy brush head, too. It feels kinda like velvet against my skin and applies the perfect amount of powder (not too sheer or heavy!) for touch-ups.

It excels at applying powders or blush, but I bet it would also work as a foundation or creme blush brush.

And not only does this little monster travel well, but she costs next to nothing! For $8 it’s a total drugstore steal.

Ecotools Retractable Kabuki Brush

Price: $10
Use: A retractable powder brush great for travel and easy on the wallet
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

Like all of the brushes in the Ecotools line, the Retractable Kabuki goes easy on the environment. The brush head is made from synthetic taklon fibers and the retractable case from recycled aluminum.

Sleep or dance, hmm?

Ladies, I feel wasted. My early morning burst of energy dissipated hours ago, and now I’m out on my feet. I dunno if I’m up for shaking my booty at dance class tonight… I might just chill out at home. That couch is looking pretty darn tempting right now. 🙂

How was your Monday? I hope it rocked.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Yes, I agree with Pik — please tell us where you found the brush! I’ve been looking for Ecotools for awhile now and haven’t yet stumbled upon them.

    Hi Pik,

It’s at Walgreens! Do you live near one? You can also order it online from them, too. 🙂

I bought the Sonia Kashuk retractable brush and I love it. I use it to apply my MSF Natural throughout the day. It’s pretty soft and works great.

I got this brush at Longs awhile back and I loooove it. I use it to put on my mineral powder makeup all the time! And it’s great I can stick the brush in my makeup bag for touchups later without worrying about damaging the bristles. My roommate actually works at Longs so I had him get it for me with his discount and it was less than $5!

I love that it’s retractable. It’s perfect for travel so it doesn’t get dirty! Can you recommend a good thick flat top brush? I’m looking for an alternative to my Kabuki one….

    Hi Marisol,

I haven’t tried Sonia’s yet but I’ll have to add her to my list. 🙂 Is it a kabuki or a regular powder brush?

    Hi Hana,

What a great deal! You are lucky to have the Longs hookup. I was just there the other day buying kitty litter when I realized that they’ve got some really neat stuff in the beauty section. 🙂

It’s new to the line this month. Hopefully your store will have it available in soon!

    Hi Karen B.,

Fun! What kind of class was it? I didn’t end up going to mine… I was so tired and I know I would’ve ended up dancing like a zombie in a Thriller video, ha ha!

    Hi Tanya,

Sonia Kashuk makes a fantastic flat top brush! It’s a little hard to find because it’s often sold out at Target but if you can get your hands on one you won’t be disappointed (hopefully!). Here’s a review and some pics:

I just got this brush this week! All the raves about EcoTools finally got to me and this seemed different than my current brushes.

So many pressed powders are coming without applicators (Cargo HD for example) that I thought this would be perfect for my makeup bag.

Pik – check the Walgreen’s across from Berkeley Bowl – that’s where I found it.

And did you notice Walgreen’s is bringing in brush line made by Japonesque? I am making up justification for one of those currently…

Ohh. I’ve been wanting a new retractable kabuki for a while. I got an essence of beauty one from CVS but it shed like no other. Since it was black it looked like I was growing mysterious long black hair on my face.. does anyone know how the eco tools wears after a good washing?

Yeah, I take dance classes, more like i’m part of a dance group. I do Tahitian and Hula dancing! And I love it. I just haven’t been feeling well lately so i’ve been missing class too.

… and Bay Area beauties LOVE your blog 🙂 cause I definitely do hehe.

Are you attending any Hello Kitty unveilings around here? I think I may go to the Valleyfair one, but i’m not sure if I need to bring an invite? The MA called me over the phone 🙂

I’ve had mine since last year and I LOVE IT! It’s super soft, dense, and I always carry it in my makeup bag when I am on the go. Er, didn’t you make a post about this some time ago? I vaguely remember that this was the reason why I went scouring around for this brush in the first place. Excellent recommend!
