Beauty Snacks: Sites of the Day, Feb. 3

February 3rd, 2009 by Karen 35 Comments

Wait, where’s my Jacob doll?

Watch your back, Ken! They’re saying Barbie’s creeping on you with the new Edward Cullen doll. He’s got the hair, the clothes AND the fangs…

Jennifer Hudson’s Superbowl look

Bellasugar breaks down the gorgeous shimmery brown eyes, glowy cheeks and nude lips J. Hud wore to the Superbowl.

Foundation: The basics

Powder, cream, mineral or tinted moisturizer? If you’re thinking about using foundation but don’t know where to start, here’s a helpful overview.

Help me get Frieda Pinto’s blue eyeshadow look

Did you catch the smoking hot blue and brown eye look Actress Frieda Pinto wore to the the Screen Actors Guild awards? I’m trying to recreate it with MAC Brule on the brow bone and MAC Soft Brown in the crease, but I could use your help coming up with a blue for the lid. Any suggestions?

Everything’s coming up roses

Roses for Valentine’s Day? — yes, please! 🙂 But en lieu of roses, I think I could hang with a selection of rose-scented products from the new Body Shop Moroccan Rose collection.

Mmm, sherbert nails…

The creamy pastel polishes in the Nubar spring collection remind me of ice cream on a hot summer day.

Hey, baby, what’s your sign?

OOH! The February astrology forecasts are up on Astrology Zone! Fellow Geminis, expect a major career breakthrough this month.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

hmm on the blue shadow look i would like to think that the new smashbox muse blues fit right in that category

while i am having a hard time with mastering these shadows ( textural and sheerness issues ) that blue seems dead on

    check it out !

    Hi YadiQ,

Thanks for the rec! I will check it out. I think I might also switch it up just a bit and layer a blue with MAC Club on the lid… that might look purty, too.

How is your Tuesday? I hope work isn’t too crazy for you!

Hey Karen! OT but did you hear about our boy C. Bale and his little on set rant while filming? It was SO WRONG but I still heart him.

    Hey Karen,

How about trying the High Impact Pigments Pure Pigment Shadow Stick in Exhilarating – it may be the blue you are looking for, but it is pretty turquoise!

That doll just made my day, I think I’ll be laughing about it inside all throughout my day and even through my evening class. I love that it even has a Zoolander-esque face to it.

I hope you’re enjoying your Tuesday so far! Have a good one 🙂

love the eye look. I did a little web browsing just for fun on my lunch break….my thoughts: mac prussian, submarnie or freshwater, or shu’s P blue 650 (sky blue according to the website). Of course these are just going off web swatches!!!

what about some of the palettes you featured–I feel like mally and shu had some blues?

Twilight- I loved the book. The film was OK (I can overlook the terrible special effects). But the seeing the perfume was a step too far. This? There. Are. No. Words. I am feeling physically sick. DIE TWILIGHT DIE! Lol, ok the rant is over.

    Karen,

For the blue, use L’Oreal HiP line concentrated eyeshadow duo in “Spirited.” Use the lighter blue in the duo. It’s seriously an exact match in shade color (it even has the shimmer). I’m wearing that one tomorrow (I’m wearing “Shady” currently). The blue in “Forgiving” is a bit darker than the one in “Spirited” so that may work as well.

I’ve never used MAC but many people out there is saying the pigmentation of HiP is equivalent to MAC but half the cost (it’s $7). If you have a Jewel-Osco near you and a preferred card, they’ve been charging me for HiP duos at $3.75 a pop and it’s not even on sale as far as I know. I bought 5 duos because they were so cheap (I have like 13 of their duos now).

Wow, that Edward Cullen doll sure knows how to give some serious hair and face to the camera (even if that pose on the right is a bit played out :). Never tried the whole Twilight thing, though I am totally guilty of devouring every episode of True Blood and the accompanying chick-lit.

Not sure what shade the lovely Freida is wearing, but one one of the reasons it looks so great is that it’s anchored by the soft brown in the crease (makes color on the eyes really wearable). Another blue eye I think would be great would be thick, winged-out eyeliner in navy or royal blue (a la Bridgette Bardot), with some bronzer and a sexy nude lip…

I have two good ones for the blue i couldn’t tell from the pic which one looks closer to it and i have very pale skin so you might want to use number one to make the look

    1: Lighter one
take your 242 and apply a good layer of vex then using the same brush buff in some aquadisiac

    2:Darker more silvery one
take your 242 and put down a nice layer of smoke and diamonds(from starflash) and then blend in some aquadisiac then lightly blend in a tad bit of carbon to darken

    Hi Ashley Jean,

I agree. Soft Brown is one of those colors that I swear I could use in every look. In the crease it’s just *magic*.

I have many friends that love the True Blood series (both the TV show and the book series). I haven’t had time to start the books but I’d like to soon!

    Hi Marisol,

Yes girl! It’s all about the twins!

OH, I used to do that commute, too, but I did SF to Novato. Your way is much harder, especially when it gets to the narrows. Hopefully you’ll get into your new place soon.

Do you know what neighborhood you want to live in? You also have to consider your commute. Some commutes in the city can take way over an hour. I lived in the outer Richmond and the AX and BX commute buses were the best commute I ever had!

School is going great. I really like my teacher and I have a feeling I’m going to learn a ton. It’s nice to be back in a college atmosphere. I’ve miss it!

    What class are you taking?

Hey Karen, I didnt hear that they would make a sequel until now. Dammit. Oh well, I’ll just have to go and live under a rock for a while. Either that or move to, say, Cornwall =D
Yeah, J. Hudson looks fab. I wish I could get my skin to look like that!
