Nude Lips and New York Fashion Week

February 19th, 2009 by Karen 32 Comments

While models dressed up for Fashion Week, their lips dressed down, as several designers sent nude lips down the catwalk. Peach, pink and even beige lip shades ruled the runway in finishes of matte and high gloss.

What we see at Bryant Park can signal upcoming trends, like nude lips for fall 2009, but I think the look’s perennial. Go Team Nudes!

I’ve been spotting examples of it all week long… Here are some ideas to try at home.

At the Oscar de la Renta show (pictured at top), the lips were natural, pink and glossy.

For lips inspired by the same look, start by lining your pucker with MAC Cremestick Liner in Pink Treat, a creamy warm rose. Then, add one layer of a pale, shimmery beige lipstick — I used MAC lipstick in Quiet, Please.

For more glossy shine, top it off with pink and shimmery MAC Lipglass in Cherry Blossom.

The lips at the Narciso Rodriguez show were all about the matte, peach and nude.

I like this one because it’s pretty easy. Apply one layer of warm and peachy MAC Mattene lipstick in Flattering (a matte lipstick), applied straight from the tube.

My favorite nude lips at Bryant Park this week have been the peachy, glossy lips at the Anna Sui show.

Begin by lining your lips with MAC Cremestick liner in Honey B., a creamy peach.

Then, layer shimmery peach Benefit Full Finish Lipstick in Thrillin’ Brazillian directly on top.

Finish with some clear gloss, like (try MAC Lipglass in Clear), slicked over the whole lip.

I think nude lips look fantastic with pretty much any eye look, but they look exceptionally stunning when paired with smokey eyes (click for a simple smokey eye).

Tea and crumpets

A peek inside Crown & Crumpet

The sun is making an unscheduled appearance today, yea! This, after more than a week of gloom and rain, so I’m playing hooky to meet a friend for tea and crustless finger sandwiches in San Francisco this afternoon. 🙂

I hope you’re having good day so far. Let me know how you’ve been.

Your neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

The restaurant looks cozy! I despise tea unless I’m really sick and my throat drops aren’t working. I don’t like coffee period.

The sun’s out here too! It’s just bitingly cold and windy, not warm. And guess who’s inside away from the 20 degree weather and 23 mph winds? That would be me. If only it were warm. I haven’t even gotten dressed either so I’m still in my “I Love Snoopy!” pajamas.

Thank you so much for the quick recap of NYFW. It’s PERFECT to be able to see lip trends in ONE POST. Thanks for also showing how to replicate the looks with products that are available to us.

Hope you have a great time at tea! I love going to tea and do it every few months with my best girlfriends. It’s such a girly way to bond!!

So glad it’s Thursday. One more work day…and it’s sunny!! Yay! I might actually wear a spring dress tomorrow!

    Hi Alison,

Tea was so much fun! If you’re ever in SF you should def. hit up Crown & Crumpet. I had one type of tea that actually smelled and tasted like peaches. It was lovely.

    How’s your Thursday been?

    Hi YadiQ,

I have such a hard time building muscle, so I’m so jealous!

You definitely deserve a makeup reward for all that hard work.

That stupid-ass stair stepper machine! I’m going to do it again tonight. I swear it’s a love/hate thing, LOL! Isn’t it amazing how much you sweat even just after five minutes?

    Hi Shefali,

I was wondering if it the sun was out your way! It was actually kind of (gasp) warm here today!

Tea was so much fun. My friend and I sat outside and soaked up the sun and did a nice, long catching up sesh.

    How’s your day been?

    Hi Melissa,

Your tea sounds delish. I raise my tea cup to you. *toasts*

The brows on the Oscar models are too fierce for words. I also love the silvery/smokey eyes on the Anna Sui models. I’m going to try that look in a few.

I hope you’re having a great Thursday so far!

    Karen,

It was infinitely better. A good day in my book is napping with Zena and no hives. It’s a bit cold in my house but I’m wearing a very warm sweater with fleecy stuff on the inside. I’m nice and toasty.

You can’t go wrong with nude lips. I just bought victoria’s secret lipgloss in ‘hot cocoa’. It tastes really good and gives the right amount of sheen. You should try it!

Nude lips are right my style. If the lips are conservative than I feel like there’s more room to go more extravagant on my eyes, but if both my lips and eyes are bright it’s too easy to look like a hooker LOL!

    Hi Kate,

Oh, hives are the worst. I get those sometimes too with food allergies. It sucks because you can’t really control them.

Anyway, have a good Friday and stay warm!

loving the peach and glossy look – because of your benefit review yesterday i’ve been obsessing with the new shadows/lipsticks. i even wore an old benefit lipstick for the hell of it and it made me wonder why i stopped wearing it. i love rediscovering old makeup (that hasn’t expired yet of course) don’t you?

    Hi Shefali,

TGIF indeed! Are you ready for the weekend? I so am!

So far my weekend’s been great! El Hub and I just got back from dinner. We had Thai food (yum, it’s my fave) and then I dragged him to the mall again so I could window shop.

    Have a lovely evening!

    Hi Lexi,

LOL, yeah, and lil’ scones smothered in butter, too. I ate so much my friend had to practically roll me out of there. I hope you go with your sisters — I think you gals would dig it! There’s a ton of pretty stuff to look at inside. Plus, they also serve additional munchies in case you’re super duper hungry.

Oh, which Benefit color did you bust out? I was all about Passionista, wooty woot!
