2-Minute Wide-Eyed Makeup Look

February 21st, 2009 by Karen 27 Comments

I was up late last night watching Season 1 of 30 Rock on DVD. This may be lack of sleep talking, but I’m strangely fascinated by puffy Alec Baldwin…

When I finally opened my eyes this morning, I looked TIRED!

I filmed this video clip (click to see the video) a couple days ago, but it shows one of my go-to quick eye makeup looks, great for late-night TV marathons.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Good tips! What do you think about wearing white eyeliner in the waterline? I think Tyra recommends that for a more wide awake look. I haven’t tried it myself yet. I always feel I need eyeliner (on the upper lashline) to look awake. 🙂

Blue mascara always works well too. Just on your upper-lashes, though. If you put it on the bottom lashes, it exemplifies your circles.

    Hi Audrey,

I like wearing gel liner, like MAC Fluidline near the base of the upper lash line to really open up the eyes, too! What is your favorite liner for that spot?

I tried Tyra’s (love ya, Ty-Ty!) a few times and I didn’t really notice a difference. While I think the white on the waterline looks really neat, I think for me the difference in color is too stark.

    Hi Brittnie,

Great tip! Looks like I need to bust out some blue mascara ASAP, LOL!

Hope you’re having a good Saturday! What are you up to? I think I’m going to the gym and then to the movies in a few.

You know, the crazy thing is that even though I’m a total MAC junkie, I’ve never once tried their fluidlines! I have the Clinique creme liner in Deep Brown for every day and for night or bolder looks, I’ll wear Bobbi Brown’s gel eyeliner in Black Ink. I like both formulas, I just like playing with different brands.

      Hi Audrey,

MAC’s Fluidlines are great! Once you get them on they won’t move for nuthin’.

I do like the Clinique and Bobbi liners, too. Long live gel liner! 🙂

Oh! I do this too, LOL, with exactly the same products!! However, when I have an extra 1 minute to spare I usually line my eyes with MAC’s Blacktrack Fluidline =) That mascara is just the bomb, I think it’s that and Clinique’s Lash Power that have become my makeup bag’s staple.

After reading your review of Samba-dy Loves Me and I was lemming it, but I’ll probably pop by the Chestnut St. store later this week if the weather allows me to check it out 😉

Belated happy second birthday to your blog and I’m really excited with Tabs’ new blog as well!! The new layout is very cute and I like the idea of your Daily Photo =)

I hope you’re doing well! Stay dry and warm when the storm comes in!

      Hi Lesley,

Yes! I will sneak in the Blacktrack if I’m feeling coordinated, LOL! I wish I could line my lines with it quickly, but I just can’t if I’m in a hurry.

I hope the rain won’t stick around for too long. It’s cloudy up here right now, boo. If you make it to the Chestnut St. to check Samba-dy Loves Me please let me know what you think of it.

Oh, and thank you very much for the blog birthday wishes. 🙂

My realtionship just ended after 11 months of living together im alone and ive been crying 24 hours straight… i need some better concealer as ive found out mine is deffinately NOT waterproof. And looking at my pillow.. neither is my ‘waterproof mascara’

Normall tired (or poofy from tears) eyes is solved by… cold cold cold face wash… opening eyes in the palm of your hand.
Eyedrops… luminizer under the eye like Touch eclat.. then concealer THEN line the lower inner corner with light eyeshadow to freshen the eye.. and NO KOHL as it makes you squinty!

thank you for recommending rubenesque for this look – i tried it and wow what a difference softening the line with a finger makes!

i LOVE 30 Rock – that is my favorite new show – i can go on and on – Tina Fey is the reason I will not get Lasik eye surgery!

      Hi Lexi,

You’re welcome. 🙂 It looks supa hot with black liner on the top lash line too, woo hoo!

I just started watching 30 Rock a few months ago, so now I’m catching up on the passed seasons. I *love* the writing on that show. The dialogue is so fresh, funny and TOTALLY RANDOM. Do you ever watch Family Guy? I’m convinced the 30 Rock writers draw inspiration from that show.

I like quick simple makeup and this is basically what I do every morning. Boring eh? The only thing I change is perhaps either bronzer/blush + lipstick/gloss. I would love to try out Clinique mascara soon. Sounds promising!!

      Hi Ponikuta,

It’s pretty awesome. I’m very picky about mascara and High Impact works really well at holding the curl.

Oh, and your routine isn’t boring at all! It’s streamlined. 🙂

Great video! I find myself reaching for the light shimmery shadows as well when I want to look AWAKE. A little bit of winged eyeliner helps open up my eyes too :). I liked that little zombie cat at the end. Haha. Quite freaky 😛

      Hi Stephie,

      That was Tabs’ idea. 🙂

Thanks for the winged liner tip. Do you have a favorite liner to do it with?

For me, I like to tightline the upper waterline with gel liner if I have time. I find that helps to fake the awake look, too.

Your video clips are really entertaining and usually informational for me. I am seriously a makeup noob. I never quite understood blending and such but recently I’ve been trying to learn. Actually I tried it for the first time today, my friend didn’t even notice. Maybe better luck next time.

Oh and your videos seem to reflect how spunky and cute you are. :]

      Hi Jane,

Blending and stuff takes practice. You’ll get there! My first attempts were 100% awful, but eventually it got easier.
