The Laura Mercier Folklore Summer 2013 Collection Is Equal Parts Boho and Bling

April 11th, 2013 by Karen 36 Comments

Laura Mercier Folklore Summer 2013 Collection

According to folklore…the Taylor Swift is a spellbinding creature that lives deep in the Hundred Acre Wood with a talking, foul-mouthed plush toy named Ted…

Wait — that’s not right.

Sorry! Got my stories confused. 🙂

This is a post about the new Laura Mercier Folklore Summer 2013 collection, available now at Laura Mercier counters and online.

In a way, though, Laura’s new collection is like all of those catchy/borderline annoying Taylor Swift songs I like in that I can’t get it out of my head.

Its warm, earthy bronze, copper, gold and tan shimmers splashed with coral, pink and blue? MAN! It just might be enough to sway me from my usual surfer chick-meets-Las Vegas showgirl summer motif toward a summer of boho and bling — flowing, flowery caftans, platform sandals, silk headscarves, big-@ss hoops and lots of gold.

When I contemplate the pieces in the Folklore collection, I almost feel the sun on my shoulders as a dry, desert wind whistles through my loose, wavy hair.

These are pieces I’d wear if I were trying to channel Nicole Richie and Beyoncé (at the same time) while traipsing through the high desert with a guitar strapped to my back (on my way to a luxurious five-star resort with an infinity pool and a spa that offers a 120-minute massage).

Got a few reviews lined up, but here are swatches of the entire collection now…

Laura Mercier Folklore Collection Swatches From the left: Sun Glow, Fire Glow and Earth Glow ($24 each)
Laura Mercier Folklore Collection Eye Shadow Swatches from the left on my NC 42 skin: Sun Glow, Fire Glow and Earth Glow ($24 each)

Laura Mercier Folklore Collection Swatches From the left: Ritual Baked Blush Bronze ($36), Cobolt Crème Eye Liner ($22) and Canard Crème Eye Liner ($22)

Laura Mercier Folklore Collection Swatches

Oh! — Folklore seems very warm toned, so just a heads up for the bronzed beauties out there. If you generally prefer cooler shades, something like the eye palette from Laura’s spring collection might suit you better.

Question for you…

When you go out to eat at a restaurant you’ve been to before, do you tend to order the same dish each time, or do you like to try something different?

El Hub sticks with the same dish when he finds something he likes, but I usually try something different, which is how I ended up with this mint and pea pizza last night…

I thought it was…alright, but probably not something I’ll be waking up craving in the middle of the night, if you catch my drift.

I don’t know… It was like a cheese-fest-a-thon, with minty peas floating around in the background.

Certainly the most interesting pizza I’ve had in a while. Yup.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Wow… looks like Laura’s after my bank account again. Great colors.

As for the food ordering issue, I try to switch it up and try new things each time I go somewhere, but I have a couple of regular places I go to that have favorite things that I have to get each time. One of my favorite breakfast places, for example does a great eggs benedict, but different versions, so I try to switch it up, one time I’ll get the crabcake version, next time the shrimp, then the avocado, etc.

Oh, and my favorite Indian restaurant has this amazing appetizer that I have to get each time. It’s like a deconstructed samosa that they add fresh apple to and top with a yogurt sauce and a spicy tamarind sauce. It’s amazing!

    Now I’m hungry!

The Folklore collection looks pretty awesome. Laura Mercier is now one of my fave makeup companies/artists, because of the fact that she puts a spin on neutrals that is very flattering. You really got me hooked on Stormy Grey and Black Violet! Both of those liners are so flattering and natural with my green-gold-hazel eyes.

As for when I eat out…if it was good, I will usually get it a second time, but the third time I eat at the restaurant I typically want something different. Depends on my cravings since I do go to some restaurants for a specific dish or drink.

What type of product is sun glow? It looks really pretty!

Once I find a dish I really like I usually stick with it! Typically if I stray from my fave I end up regretting it!!

I should be packing right now! Hubs and I are flying to AZ on Sunday! I just went to sephora for a couple goodies with the coupon they have right now. What are you up to this weekend?

Nice. Are you guys going for fun or work? I hope you’ll be one of Arizona’s kick-@ss spas I read about all the time. Will Abbie be going with you?

If the weather is nice (it’s always so touch and go here0, I’m going to try to go hiking. I need to be outside, allergies be damned!

Hubs won an award at work so we get a free trip. He just has one meeting and there’s and award ceremony, and the rest should be relaxing. We weren’t allowed to bring Abbie, which I’m bummed about, so nana is gonna come take care of her at our house. We are staying at the boulders resort and they have a spa and I get a free pedi! I’m bummed I can’t use the sauna or hot tubs since I’m pregnant 🙁 speaking of allergies, I’m most excited about the trip because it means I can get away from the ridiculous pollen for a few days. Pollen count is 7800 here today 🙁

      Hi Agata,

The gold eyeshadow, the bronzer, Canard liner and the bronze lipstick. I keep thinking about the copper and brown shadow and the pink and coral lippies though. I may have to make a pit stop at the Laura counter to see if they want to come live with me, haha!

Oh, and you can never have enough bronzers. 😉

What are you up to tonight? I’m about to watch another ep of Scandal.

Actually I forgot to mention I really like the lippies too, esp the coral one and the Bronze eyeshadow looks so nice too.

I spent the evening car shopping again, which was a huge waste of time actually. Me and hubby drove 45 mins to a car dealer just to find out the car we were interested in was sold earlier today (would be nice if the guy told us that when my husband called to say we were coming). But I also made a yummy vegetarian dinner- pasta with roasted portabella mushrooms, parsley and sun dried tomatoes. Very flavorful!

I really like the Canard liner but I’m not very good with gel liners. I have so many fluidlines to use up.

About the food ordering, it depends on my mood. I usually go for my regular dish if its been a long day and i cant handle a surprise. But I try to order something else sometimes just to make my favourite dish more special (Eat it less often).

There’s something comforting about this line (must be the warm colors). 🙂 The ad definitely has a desert gypsy fortune teller vibe to it!

Good for you for trying something new. For me, I guess it depends on the place. If there are lots of menu items that catch my eye, I’ll be sure to try them all. I usually float between 3 or 4 different “favorites” at our regular places though. I’m a bit funny about mint. I love it in toothpaste and gum (those things can’t be anything but mint) but I’m not keen on it mixed with food.

I think that the fortune teller sees a Chanel gloss in your future.

So, re: mint. How about chocolate chip mint ice cream? I find I have to be in the mood for it, otherwise the toothpaste thing kicks in.

And, once again, you’ve made me laugh. And you’re probably right. If they had them on Sephora, you can bet I’d already have Daydream in my cart! 🙂

Ugh, no. It’s the Hubs’ fave but it just gags me out. Mint and chocolate is very bad for me (thin mints, Junior Mints, Girls Scout cookies). I mean, I could eat it, but I’d really prefer not to. HAHA! Same for chocolate and fruit. Like the chocolate orange or chocolate covered cherries, etc. I’m kind of thankful for that because goodness knows I get enough calories from the bread/cheese thing. I’m honestly not a picky eater and wouldn’t refuse to eat any of this if it was served to me as a guest. I would just never choose to eat it if it could be (gracefully) avoided. 🙂

I think that teal eyeliner needs to be in my life! It’ll look great next to all the other shades of teal liners in my stash haha! I always like Laura Mercier’s stuff, but I’ve never purchased anything, that may change now because that is all stuff I gravitate towards.

I’m totally the person that orders something different every time at a restaurant, with the exception of Chipotle because I’m pretty sure I figured out the perfect burrito! (Carnitas, black beans, white cilantro lime rice, sour cream, guac & corn salsa, om nom nom I may have to stop there for lunch!)

You’ll love Laura’s color products. If you can give her new lipsticks a try…they’re great.

And now that I think about it, I always order the same thing at Chipotle, too. Veggie burrito, extra guac, extra corn salsa.

Wow, how did I manage to miss this new collection when I was at Sephora at the LM display last week??? I guess I was distracted by the rose gold and amethyst caviar sticks that I went home with. Gotta go back and use the 15% off Sephora coupon on a couple of these lovely items. Where was that bright blue mascara when I was into that sort of thing?

I heart those Caviar sticks too. Thanks for reminding me that I need to use my VIB to pick up the Khaki shade.

Sephora might not have the LE collection up at your store yet; I’ve noticed that they tend to put the Laura stuff up later than Nordstrom.

Minty pea pizza?! +10 points for trying it! I like to try new stuff! There’s an indie pizza place here in Atlanta called Shorty’s and they have a pie called a Janis Joplin: goat cheese, green apple slices, and walnuts, and they serve it with a honey bear (for drizzling purposes). Swoontown!

This collection looks really gorgeous! I could totally see you rocking a head scarf and big ass hoops!
