Is the New Clarins Opalescence Face & Blush Powder Out of This World?

The new Clarins Opalescence Face & Blush Powder
The new Clarins Opalescence Face & Blush Powder ($40)

Took me a while to say goodbye to this gorgeous design. I didn’t want to mess up the pretty pan.

Is it just me (probably), but doesn’t it look a little astronomical/sci-fi?

Whoa! Did you see that? I thought I saw a satellite fly by… 🙂

I actually don’t think it’s supposed to be interstellar. I think Clarins was going for graphic design.

I like it — the contrasting lines and circles. Very artsy-fartsy, isn’t it?

Clarins Opalescence Face & Blush Powder
Face & Blush Powder is one of 14 products in the new Clarins Opalescence Spring 2014 collection

I must say…kudos to Clarins for being so consistent with their limited edition blushes. I can pretty much always count on them to 1) never leave me looking like a deranged clown, 2) smell great (this one smells like jasmine) and 3) be really easy to use.

Opalescence Face & Blush Powder ($40) is no exception.

Technically, it’s designed to be used as an all-over face powder, a contour powder and a blush. Just dust the matte pinkish beige on your shiny spots, sculpt your cheekbones with the matte tan, and add a little color to the apples of your cheeks with the matte coral. (The shimmery gold, by the way, is an overspray and disappears after the first few swipes.)

Clarins Opalescence Face & Blush Powder Swatch
All three of Opalescence’s shades blended together

Rather than using the shades individually, I’ve been swirling a brush in the pan and mixing everything together, which I do because I find the separate brown and coral regions too tiny for my blush and bronzer brushes. Combined, the colors create a lovely peachy coral matte blush. I apply once in the morning, and I’m good for the rest of the day.

Guys/gals from fair to medium skin tones should be able to rock this well, but damsels with very deep tones might want to pass. It just may not create the same fresh-faced effect.

That’s Clarins Opalescence Face & Blush Powder on my cheeks

Overall, I like what Clarins has done here, but for $40, I’d welcome more dazzle and flash.

If you’re a makeup minimalist who gravitates (I still have that sci-fi-ish design on my brain) toward natural cheek looks and don’t want to deal with having to touch up through the day, Opalescence could suit you well.

PRICE: $40

That spacecraft GIF you did is so cool! Yes, the palette does look like a couple of planets and the asteroid belt. The colour looks lovely on you. Wish the gold wasn’t just overspray though

I love the design! Kind of artsy fartsy indeed, and it would be almost a shame to mess it up by actually going in there with a brush, lol.

Oh, they upped the price, didn’t they? I’m pretty sure the face and blush powder from this past fall was $35 … I know it’s a relatively small difference, but $35 sounds more doable to me, something about reaching the $40 mark is off-putting. Anyways, it’s pretty! I definitely love the fall version, which I purchased.

Hehe, the problem with pretty products like these is that I never want to ruin even the overspray in order to use it!!

I totally saw the space theme – the gold overspray part looks like an asteroid belt, which one planet (or moon?) appears to be oribitng *in*. Guess they like to live dangerously there 😉

It looks gorgeous on you. Would I be wrong, with my light-to-fair skin and love for Ambient Lighting Powders and Guerlains Meteorites, in making a little investment? Please get back to me quickly, because I’m considering popping by the store on my way to work!

That looks so beautiful! If I were to buy, I’ll probably not use it because I don’t want to ruin the design.

Oh wow pretty! I hope Clarins Malaysia bring this in. Sadly over a year ago Clarins here in Malaysia decided to concentrate on skin care and minimize makeup products. Only top performing counters carry some.
