Look Book: Save Time With Big Lashes and Bold Lips

When you’re trying to look cute but your hair is crazytown

Big lashes + bold lips = a purr-fect pairing! The combo is one of the fastest ways to get a dramatic makeup look without using a ton of different products.

There are times when “I’ll be done with my makeup in 20 minutes” really has to mean 20 minutes…and not 45, and in order to prevent El Hub from yelling things like, “You said you’d be done in 20 minutes an hour ago!” I’ll pop on the biggest, fluffiest, most dramatic pair of false lashes I can find (I keep a few pairs around because you just never know) and a bold lip color — usually a fiery red, hot pink or colorful coral (basically, if it’s a color that could stop traffic, it’s a contender).

I love doing this look because it’s so much quicker than looks with intense and complicated blending on the lids or dramatic winged liner, and I can play up both my lips and eyes with minimal effort.

Melted Liquified Lipstick in Melted Strawberry is one of several new Melted Lipstick shades available now at Too Faced counters and online for $21 each. Melted Strawberry’s a smooth, lightweight full-coverage creamy red. When I use it, I prep my lips first with a lip balm because these lipsticks can be kind of drying, and then I apply it with a lip brush to get a nice crisp edge.

Another perfect pairing…

Trader Joe's Roasted Plantain Chips and Peanut Butter
Trader Joe’s Roasted Plantain Chips and Peanut Butter — BOMB.COM!

A new fave from TJ’s!

Honestly, I don’t know why I didn’t figure this out sooner, because I’ve loved peanut butter and banana sandwiches since I was a kid, and this is another version of that classic combo.

I grab a scoop of peanut butter from the jar and throw a handful of TJ’s Roasted Plaintain Chips on a small plate. Then I dip one of the chips into the peanut butter until I’m all nommed out, and/or my eyes have rolled back into my head from food ecstasy, and I can no longer see straight.

Seriously, it is that good!

I think what makes this work are the contrasting tastes and textures — the crunchiness of the chip with the smooth, sticky peanut butter and the mix of salty and sweet.

I’m drooling at the thought of it and can feel the My Fitness Pal app giving me stanky side-eye for failing to stay within my daily calorie count. #storyofmylife

Karen

These lashes look STUNNING! And that Too Faced lipstick in Strawberry is definitely my favorite one from the newly released shades.

On the food note, I don’t really like peanut butter but plantains sound really good!

Too cute! I tried TF Melted Nude, but it was seriously unflattering on me. And didn’t play well with my lips. I didn’t use lip balm first so it was partly my fault, but do you find the mid and deep colors are better? Strawberry is so pretty!

My signature makeup look! You look beautiful as usual, Karen. I really like how that lipstick looks on you too. But now I’m hungry for a PB and banana sandwich lol

Yes, it’s a great easy look when pressed for time. Big lashes and a statement lip is my crutch.

This would be the perfect tip… if only I had mastered the art of putting on falsies!!

What I usually do when short on time is cream eyeshadow in brown/bronze/taupe colour (LOVE Kiko eyeshadow sticks) and either a red or a nude lipstick. Ta dah! That combo has saved my a*** more than one on days when you simply sleep through your alarm clock 😡

Great tip Karen… I have always been in favor of bright lips for quick and pretty makeup looks but never thought of pairing them with dramatic lashes.. :-P.

    They look purr-fect together 😉

Liner and a bold lip are my time saving combo, too. It just looks like you made effort and is done very quick.

My preferred food combo is Pink Lady apples and crunchy peanut butter. Yum!

Oh those plantain chips are yummy! I need to go to trader joes. The parking lot at my local one gets so crazy though!

I wasn’t a big fan of the TF melted lippies but Strawberry looks beautiful on you. I originally bought Coral and it just clashed with my skin tone too much. I might try one of the newer shades (I have a new resolution to try and use a lip product before buying a new one though)

    Merry Christmas Karen!

Love this look on you, Karen, hair included! 🙂 And yeah, this week is BAD for our fine physiques, woops! I arrived in Belgium on Monday and I have literally been stuffing my face and/or having my face stuffed non-stop…

There are many times when I don’t really have time to do my eye makeup like I want to and I throw on mascara and a bright lip color and I look ‘complete’! Loving that shade on you.
