Glittery Green Gradient Wings: A Quick and Easy Holiday Makeup Look

December 11th, 2019 by Karen 16 Comments

Current dilemmas du jour?

  1. What to do with the five pounds of lemons Rosie’s former foster mom gave me (she has a tree in her yard that produces a RIDICULOUS amount of lemons).
  2. What’s some festive and colorful holiday makeup that won’t take me till Valentine’s Day to finish? (I’m only half-kidding.)

As of yet, I still have no clue what to do with the lemons (ugh, lemon bars and lemonade? Maybe some kind of lemon marinade?), I figured out a trick to flying through different colorful looks.

And here it is…

Play with your winged liner. THERE ARE SO MANY WAYS!

Like with this look here with glittery green gradient wings. It was surprisingly quick and easy to do.

The step-by-step

  1. Start by drawing your winged liner with a dark green matte liner as the base (I used Urban Decay Mainline). Be as subtle or dramatic as you like.
  2. Then, for a bright shimmer POP, layer a bright green glitter in the center (I’m wearing Urban Decay Stage Dive) on your lash line.
  3. Lastly, to create a color gradient, dip an angled brush into a black eyeshadow (MAC Carbon for life!), and pat that on top of the outer portion of your wing.

Green goes well with warm browns and peaches, which is what I’m wearing on my lids, lips on these cheeks in this look. If you want to be more adventurous, however, pink would be a playful complementary color… I’m just sayin’. 🙂

      Hi Andrea,

That’s nice of you to say. 🙂 I do a mix of a bunch of things, but I think the items doing the heavy lifting are the exfoliators. I use a mix of gentle ones — Paula’s Choice BHA and a retinol (right now I’m using the one by Estee Lauder). I also use a benzoyl peroxide cream (Kate Somerville’s Anti-Bac) to keep the pimples away, otherwise I’d break out like crazy.

What skin care are you using these days? I would love to hear about what you think is life-changing.

Thanks for the info, for me, I have been loving the Paula’s choice pore refining toner and squalane oil has been a God send in these cold months in the Midwest.

Ooh pretty! Love the green! I like lemon in my ice water, and it’s good in a simple salad dressing.

This is a lovely look on you! I love your blush!
As for lemons? Maybe bake cookies that freeze well? Consume copious amount of warm lemon ginger water to boost your immune system? Ha ha. Seems like everyone in the office is sick right now and that’s what I’m doing to make sure I don’t catch it! You can also bake broccoli/or asparagus in a casserole dish coated in olive oil, salt and pepper for 20 minutes. Throw in some minced garlic at the end with grated Parmesan and squeeze some lemon juice and mix it all together. Serve with some meat and a salad? I’m trying to think of everything I possibly do with lemons ? ha ha!

Make lemon curd!! So delicious on toast, in yogurt, out of the jar, etc. the Kitchn has an easy tutorial. Plus it makes an excellent gift in a mason jar tied with a bow. I gave all my coworkers lemon curd a few years ago and they still talk about it.

I love this look! What blush, eyeshadow, and lip colors are you wearing? I especially love how well the blush and lip color look together.

Gorgeous liner. Your skin is glowing!
Lemons?!!! Make Moroccan preserved lemons. Several jars. That way you can have amazing salty, tangy lemons all year long and give a jar away as a gift.

Seconding the recommendation for making lemon curd. It is so easy and it makes great gifts. Plus it’s a great bakery ingredient to have on hand!

Does the glitter stay in place? I am always so worried I will get it in my contacts.

You pickle the lemons, of course! As an Indian that was the first thing that popped in my head. You can find tons of recipes if you google lemon pickle or pickled lemons! They can be sweet and sour or hella spicy depending on your preference.

I started to rock green eyeliner when the Eagles ? went to the SuperBowl !
    Lemons ? go w everything. Salads , facials , drinks ?, fish , marinades . Endless possibilities.
My Italian relatives have lemon trees everywhere.
Remember to even use the rind . It works in everything : cheesecake , cookies , cakes , pies ?
