Summer Beauty Buddies: Must-Haves for Pool Days from Bioderma and Naturium

July 5th, 2023 by Karen 9 Comments

It’s a pool summer

It might be a “Cruel Summer” for Bananarama and Taylor Swift, but for us it’s been a pool summer. LOL!

Connor and I have been spending lots of time at the pool, and in between cannonballs, underwater handstands, and sharing pizza with neighbors and friends, there’s been sooooo much sunscreen.

Water baby!

Every hour on the hour, a timer on my phone beeps to remind us to reapply another layer. We’ve been pretty good about it so far!

It’s the summer of pool handstands

All that sunscreen eventually has to come off, though, and that’s why today’s summer beauty buddies, two oil cleansers, are our pool day BFFs. Shout out to Bioderma Atoderm Cleansing Oil and Naturium Fermented Camellia Creamy Cleansing Oil for making it so easy to take the waterproof stuff off.

Love it

I’m sure you’ve done a double cleanse with an oil cleanser for your face, but have you considered doing something similar for your body? If you’ve ever struggled with removing zinc or waterproof sunscreen, then double cleansing will be a game changer! It’s so much easier.

Before hopping in the shower, I rub a few pumps of the Bioderma oil on the areas of my body where I’m wearing sunscreen – my arms, legs, chest and back. I do the same thing with my face and neck with the Naturium Creamy Cleansing Oil.

The oil breaks up the sunscreen so that it easily melts off in the shower.

When I hop into the shower, I use a soft washcloth to remove the oil and sunscreen, and then I follow up with a foamy shower gel on my body and a face cleanser to get extra clean.

It’s so nice to not have to scrub, especially when I’m wearing mineral sunscreen with zinc. It’s so easier and faster with the first oil cleanse.

If you can’t find Bioderma Atoderm, another thing you can try is makeup removing balm in a jar. I like the ones by e.l.f and Naturium.

Mentally I’m here today

Have you spent any time in the water so far this summer? I dunno, I used to only love the beach, but now I have a new appreciation for the pool. It’s easier for me to keep an eye on kids when they’re all in an enclosed space, and I don’t have to deal with the element of waves and currents. I also like having easy access to chairs, tables and shade umbrellas, and knowing that I can easily go to the bathroom. Maybe it’s a getting older thing? Or becoming a parent thing?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Yes, Karen, that is such a good idea to use oil to remove sunscreen! It can be so hard to get off. We spent the weekend with my husbands family at the lake. It was lots of fun but you really can’t take your eyes off the girls for even a second! My husband and I were down by the shore trying to get one of the girls into a floatie, I looked over and the other one is under water! It was only for a second but man we both felt like horrible parents. Luckily she still wanted to play in the water, which is the hard part at this age, they are so fearless! So I can see how a pool would be easier to manage.

I’m glad you guys saw her in the water! It’s really hard at this stage, especially when they want to explore everything. Have you guys thought about taking them to baby swim lessons? It might be a good thing since you often visit the lake.

We did swim lessons this winter! I don’t think it sunk in much because they’re still so young. Next summer we can put those arm floaties on them! And do more swim lessons as they get older.

For sure. Soon enough they’ll be cannonballing into the pool together!

I love the L’Occitane Almond Oil cleanser for my first cleanse of removing sunscreen. Of course the Trader Joe’s version (don’t know if the still sell it) is just as good and waaaay less expensive.
Now I have to try the Atoderm and Naturium. I’ve been looking for a new oil cleanser for my face since the last bottle I bought from Clinique smelled like bathroom tile cleaner. I swear it never smelled like that before.
0-1 on the Fitzpatrick scale, so I don’t love sun at all. I hate the feeling of sunscreen on my skin, except for those elegant Japanese and Korean formulations which are too expensive to use all over your body.

I’ll look for the TJ’s version next time I’m there. 🙂

Gotta love all the Japanese and Korean sunscreens! Why can’t we have nice things here, sigh!

Oh, removing sunscreen with an oil cleanser is a great idea! Gonna have to try that. Also, where are your cute heart sunglasses from?

      Hi Deanna!

I got the glasses from Target. They’re pretty old though!

I’ve been in the pool more this summer than I have for many years past, but my outdoor time is pretty limited. I do prefer the convenience and not having to worry about what you’re stepping on or dealing with sand everywhere.
