Lip Look: Hourglass Extreme Sheen Gloss in Siren

December 10th, 2009 by Karen 58 Comments

hourglass cosmetics extreme sheen siren lip

Well, hello, pigment! When it comes to color, Hourglass Cosmetics’ Extreme Sheen Lipgloss in Siren ($28), a shimmery reddish copper, does NOT mess around.

hourglass cosmetics extreme sheen siren swatch

It’s like a technicolor dream in tube form! Super rich, right?

And opaque color isn’t the only thing this gloss has going for it…

  • Texture: Thin, non-sticky texture that feels super smooth on my lips, like a slightly thicker version of a Chanel Aqualumiere.
  • Hydrating formula: Some glosses (but not this one) suck the moisture from my perpetually parched lips.
  • Flavorless with a light scent: Smells like cupcake frosting, yum! But it dissipates before becoming annoying.
  • Wear time: I can slick it on in the morning, and it’s still going strong six hours later (begins to fade after lunch).

I even experimented with a second layer to see what would happen… Yeah, Siren didn’t like it at all, bleeding beyond the lines of my lips. Picture a rabid makeup clown, boo!

Take home lesson? Less is more when it comes to Siren. I think a single, thin layer is just enough to get the job done.

With pigmentation, texture and hydration like this, I can’t wait to try more shades!

Have you tried any of the Hourglass Extreme Sheen Glosses? What did you think?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Lunch time! 🙂 Who’s up for a salad and Trader Joe’s tomato soup?

Thanks babe! I love it too! At first I was afraid it wasn’t going to be wearable (cause it’s sooo dark), but it actually is.

How is your day going? Good I hope!

I’ve just woken up again. Yesterday was a nice day. I now have pretty eyebrows so no complaints there and I have a day off. Tonight is press conference for the musical I’m in next year so that’s exciting 🙂

Snazzy eyebrows are always a good thing. I love it when they’re freshly groomed!

If the lip wax hurts you to much you could always try taking a painkiller an hour or two before. That’s what I used to do before waxing, um, certain parts.

I know! I felt so confident and gorgeous at press conference last night even though I usually feel so uncomfortable at things like that. 🙂
Thanks for the tip, I’ll keep it in mind.

Once my exams are over, I’m pretty sure I’m heading over to Sephora… I’ll have to have a look at everything you’ve been mentioning recently, including this gloss (which, by the way, looks great on you – the colour is perfect)! Of course I’ll be selective about what I buy, but it’s always nice to know what to put on your wish list 😉

What a nice treat. I used to do stuff like that when I was in college! It gave me something to look forward to when tests were done.

This is my current lip obsession…I got it a few weeks ago and need to stop myself from wearing it daily! I’m super-fair so the sheen shows as insanely metallic on me, and I loooove it (the metallic effect dulls a little over time, but the pigment stays true). I’ve swatched the other colors at Sephora but none of them seemed as special as Siren- I’d love to see your review of different shades!

I pair it with a simple black cat eye, it’s very pinup-bombshell but Siren’s metallic finish gives it a modern edge. Now it occurs to me to try it with a neutral eye, maybe with a hint of copper, too!

It is very striking on you but I was expecting a redder red based on the skin swatch. On your lips it is more coppery. I’m going to check out their glosses at Sephora tomorrow. Have a credit I feel the need to use for some retail therapy.

      Hi Steph B.,

I’ve found if I pack it on it looks similar to the swatch on the lips, but it’s messy. 🙁 I have to do a lot more to get the color to not bleed around the edges of my lips… I’d rather just do a thinner layer!

This post reminded me of an old unopened Revlon Creme de la Chrome I had lying aruond. I dug it up after I read this, and swatched it on the back of my hand. The pigmentation and finish are extremely similar, but the color is a little bit darker, and doesn’t have that nice coppery undertone. I’m kind of scared to try it and see how it looks on me *balks*

I love Hourglass products! I have used the lip sheen, although I’m still not a gloss fan. If you get a chance, try the Hourglass Foundation. I like the fluid veil. A bit on the pricey side, a little goes a long way, and really buffs out well.!!

I am having a hard time justifying spending $28 for a lip gloss, but I might have to bite the bullet, or ask Santa for it in my stocking! I will definitely have to try it out the next time I am at Sephora (along with the Korres lip butter and lipsticks).
