DuWop Foundation of Youth, Revisited

December 10th, 2009 by Karen 30 Comments

duwop-foundation-of-youth

G’morning, ladies! 🙂 How was your night?

SIDE NOTE: Okay, I have to ask: did you watch Glee? OMG, right? The shizz hit the fan!

Oh! A few of you asked about the foundation I wore in Monday’s office holiday party look. Well, it’s my new (although the product itself has been around for a while) foundation favorite, DuWop Foundation of Youth ($38).

I discovered it some time last spring but sorta forgot about it for months, oops (makeup ADD)!

When I noticed it sitting on my counter last week, I remembered how much I liked it.

It’s the foundation I wore for both the Urban Decay Show Pony and Prescriptives FOTD’s.

Do you ever do that? — completely forget about products that you actually loved, only to remember how much you loved them many months or years later?

Weird!

I’m so glad we reconnected, though, because I’d forgotten just how natural it feels on my skin and how beautifully it photographs (takes very well to the flash).

What do I love about Foundation of Youth? Let’s see…

  • Its sheer-to-medium, buildable coverage feels light, and my skin can still breathe with it on
  • It doesn’t settle into my fine lines (HALLELUJAR!)
  • Imparts a lovely, subtle glow
  • Color that lasts all day
  • The moisturizing formula doesn’t aggravate my combination dry/oily skin
  • Has a natural, semi-matte finish

But nothing’s perfect (not even makeup), and the product comes in just six different shades (I have Beige). If I remember correctly, the colors lean a little toward yellow, so girls with red undertones may not be able to find their perfect match.

“I’d love to see a version of the product come in a glass bottle with a pump…”

As for the funky brush-ish thing-a-ma-bob attached to the tube, yeah, it’s annoying as all hell. 🙂 I’d love to see a version of the product come in a glass bottle with a pump (and maybe while DuWop’s working on the bottle/pump, they could bring down the $38 price!).

Despite having a few negatives, Foundation of Youth is still one of the best foundations I’ve tried in recent years. Next time you’re strolling through Sephora, think about giving it a try.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Definitely swoon-worthy. Thanks for re-reviewing this, Karen!! I wonder what would happen if the brush applicator happened to get in an “accident” with a sharp pair of scissors…

Definitely oh so very pretty. That’s the same type of coverage I like in my foundations. Right now I’m using FACE atelier foundation that just makes skin glow (lol, right?) Your skin is glowing too Karen! 😀

Glee was AMAZING, I couldn’t watch it last night and just saw it online now. Since I don’t want to write any spoilers I will just comment on how awesome the musical numbers were. Cannot wait for the show to come back in the new year… and see what Sue is going to do next.

Oh my god, I went to check my Google Reader for another blog that does recaps/reviews of each episodes of glee and I noticed your post and since I was one of the people asking about this product I had to check it out.

But OH MY GOD! Glee is not playing around! I loved Sue Sylvester’s (I almost always have to use her whole first name) denials “Circumstantial… Forged!” And I’m so excited about… pretty much everything else too!

Ok, now I’ve calmed down a bit… I’m cool toned but I still have to try the DuWop – it sounds absolutely perfect in everyother way. I am definitely stopping by Sephora tonight to at least get a sample. (I went by Nordstrom last night and got the Prescriptives Lustre eye/blush set, only now you did another look I loved and I’m torn!)

Ha! I do the same thing with I talk about Sue!!

I’ve watched the ep about three times already… yeah, I’m a little obsessed. 🙂

Have you had the chance to play with your Prescriptives stuff yet?

She’s one of my favorite parts of the show! She says the funniest things.

Haha, I’m about to watch it again while I do some data entry.

I was going to do it real quick before my office party, but I forgot to clean my brushes at home, and I’m a bit nervous about messing up the colors… They were used with the Lorac Shimmer Quad (I know I’m messing up the name) in their cool tones. But I might just try and wipe them off as much as possible…

Thanks for the review. The foundation looks great on you, very natural and glowy.

This has everything I’m looking for in a foundation but if it is available in only six shades, I doubt I’d find a match for my very pale skin *sighs*

I wouldn’t mind trying this foundation… once they change the packaging! I hate the foundations that come with a built-in brush. I’m in need of a better foundation. Wait what am I talking about? I’m using 3 different BB creams right now! That’s Make Up ADD for you 🙁

Urgh… why do so many foundations have yellow undertones? This one looks so gorgeous on you, but I’m pretty sure it would just end up looking orange on me >:(

I dunno… There are a lot of ’em out there with very pink and red ones, too.

You know what’s really hard? Finding one that’s truly neutral!

      Hi Mill,

It’s a Barbara Streisand song from the musical Funny Girl. You can see a clip of the original here.

Cos the thing-a-ma-bob, that does the job, is bibbity bobbity boo! LOL, I was reminded of the Cinderella song while reading the post. Darn, it sounds marvellous, but I have pink undertones, so that sucks. Oh and yeah, I didn’t say it, but it really does look great on you 😉

Your skin looks beautiful with the DuWop foundation. I forget about certain items I love in my makeup collection all the time because I get wrapped but with buying and trying new things, especially when MAC keeps on pushing collection after collection. With Sephora, I get even more distracted with little gems from varies brands. I recently rediscovered the following: Benefit Moon Beam, Revlon Skinlights in Natural Light and MAC Hyper Real Foundation. I have been using these a lot after years of hiatus. These are all liquids but they have yet to go bad, why not keep on using? I love them! PS GLEE was so good last night! Too bad it won’t be back until April.

Revlon Skinlights! I was all about that line circa 2004.

I can’t wait for Glee to come back. What am I gonna do without my fix for the next few months? Ahhh!

Thanks for the review, Karen 🙂 I’ve been lemming this product after seeing your office look. I’m an NC30 in MAC.. do you think biege would work for me? My body is much lighter than my face, and the woman at the MAC counter colormatched me using my neck.. I’m not sure if I should go a shade lighter than beige, or stick with beige.

      Hi Jenny,

Beige might be a little dark on you. You might want to go a step down to the third color to Bisque, or you could get Beige and try mixing it with a lighter foundation or even perhaps a few drops of your concealer (if you have a liquid one on hand).

Do you happen to live near a Sephora? I know my nearby one is pretty good about giving out samples. You could get both colors and live with ’em for a few days… that way you can see how the foundation looks in natural light, and if it oxidizes on your skin. You might want to try before you buy as it’s kinda pricey!

That brush is just a happy little bacteria farm waiting to happen! Eek! The actual product looks gorgeous on you though!

Little side note: I’ve been checking out MBB for about 2 or 3 months now and it is my absolute FAVE beauty blog! Great job Karen!
