5 Unsung Makeup Heroes!

January 22nd, 2010 by Karen 31 Comments

How’s it going tonight, girls? Are you having a good time? I just got back from dinner (pizza again) and decided to look through the blog archives (this is post no. 2,538!) for something to wear tomorrow.

I’ve narrowed it down to five often overlooked products that I know I love but sometimes forget about, and here they are. 🙂 Each picture also links back to a longer post.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I agree with you on the MAC Nymphette being a staple in the smokey eye look. I do smokey eyes basically every day (Using a variety of different colors) & When I want a subtle lip color without doing a completely nude lip, I turn to my Nymphette! I have been wanting to try that NARS lipstick in Dolce Vita since you mentioned it a few months ago. (Seems like it was a few months ago, anyway! Not too sure, though.) Thank you for reminding me! While I was at Sephora the other day, I couldn’t remember what lip color it was that I wanted & I didn’t want to have to look it up on my phone at the time. I can’t wait to pick that up! I wish you would’ve added the picture you have with Dolce Vita on your lips to #5 because I think a lot of girls will see it & think it isn’t for them, but it totally doesn’t look like that once it’s applied. IMO, that is. I love this post! I really enjoy the ones with specific products in ‘list form’. I have a strange infatuation with lists, ha! I hope your Friday went well. This California weather just isn’t cuttin’ it for me. I need some SUNSHINE in my life! (: Have a goodnight, Karen. (& Tabs, of course!)

Lovely choices! Sad to say I’ve only tried 1 of the 5, but I’m definitely working on it. 😀

MAC Nymphette–luvs it! My go-to gloss for work–I’m wearing it right now, in fact! Actually, I’m also wearing UD liner in Bourbon. Ironic!

Is it me or does Nars’s Dolce Vita look a bit similar to MAC’s Strawbaby? Because I’ve been looking for a dupe for my beloved Strawbaby for ages…

I’ve been wanting to try Nars Dolce Vita since you posted not so long ago. The only problem is I live nowhere near a counter and have to order online and we can’t return beauty products like you (lucky) guys can in the US. If I’m feeling flush I will take the plunge one day. I think I will try Nymphette though I love colours like that!

Cool! I totally agree about Bourbon AND Kalahari 🙂 So, those two colors work great for you, and your gorgeous tan skin . . . They also are awesome for me, with super-pale warm skin (C1 in MAC Face and Body). On my to-do list for the day is head into Sacramento and find out what “traditional” foundation color I am in MAC . . . Perhaps that way Christine’s *incredible* foundation spreadsheet will be more helpful for me. I bet I end up in the “so-pale-there-isn’t-anything-out-there-for-me” category. Still, that would be good to know! Enjoy your Saturday; there’s SUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hey Karen!
I love the cartoon-you! So cute! I bought Nymphette after reading about it on MBB, but I don’t love it so much. It doesn’t seem to have much pigment on me. I much prefer VivaGlam VI gloss and its sparkly goodness. I’m now lusting for the NARS duo!

I agree on the Bourbon liner and that one looks great for the summer and I love Arena eyeshadow. It is a great all over shade and a crease shade as well. Nymphette looks very pretty and I will have to try that one someday.

I just bought Nymphette a week ago and I’ve worn it five out of the seven days since! I love the color, but it looks completely different on me than it does on you. 🙁 I have fairly ligh skin and I think Arena would look to orange-y on me. Maybe after I get some sun this summer it will be better suited for me. Does anyone know a good lipliner to go with Nymphette? I’ve heard that Dirvish is good, but I haven’t had the chance to try it out yet.

Hmm, a good reminder I need to spend some quality time in Sephora soon. Thank goodness I can load your website on my phone if I feel conflicted or uncertain about a product! 🙂

Hope your week has been happy (since it’s apparently been pizza-plenty)!

Hey Karen, has Arena changed through the years? I have it, from way back in the day, in the screw top container. Mine looks super frosty and much lighter than your pic. I have only used it a couple times b/c of the frostiness, but yours looks fab!

    Thoughts?

I loved the color of Bourbon, but the glitter freaked me out, haha. Incidentally, Sephora Flashy Brown is a perfect dupe of the color, sans glitter; definitely one of my everyday go-tos! 🙂

I find the lipglass from MAC extremely…. sticky and uncomfortable to wear but I agree with the Nars Dolce Vita lipstick. I never used to wear red, but when this colour was sent to me, I fell in LOVE with it and now I am a huge fan of red lipstick.
