Bumble and Bumble Has a Lock on Tousled Hair with New Texture Hair (Un)dressing Creme

April 1st, 2011 by Karen 18 Comments

Can I give you a lift?

Um, no, I will not drive you to In-N-Out (even though I really want to!).

I’m referring to lifts of the hair care variety, like the kind you get from the new Bumble and Bumble Texture Hair (Un)dressing Creme ($26 for a 5-oz. bottle).

When I popped into the salon for a bang trim last week, Alis, my stylist/miracle worker, introduced me to it. She called it her favorite product from the Bumble and Bumble line.

Designed for all hair types, it’s a thick, flexible hold styling creme for lived-in, tousled, messily undone looks, and this is neat — it dries to a matte finish (kinda different!).

I didn’t think I needed another hair styling product in my life, but I’m glad I found this one. I’ve been using it for about a week to tame my bangs and lift my roots at the crown, and damn — I kindasorta love it.

Right away I liked the light, beachy scent, but I was a little unsure about the texture. It’s thick AND sticky. When it dries, though, it doesn’t feel sticky at all, and it leaves my hair touchably soft with flexible hold.

Now, this isn’t one of those products you can just throw on and go; you do have to jump through a few hoops to help it reach its potential.

Here’s the smaller 2-oz. tube beside an iPhone (and a husky tabby) for scale…

The first hoop, Alis says, is to use it on damp hair. The slippery wet strands help distribute the product more evenly. Alis likes to go a step further by applying a spray-on conditioner first, like Bumble & Bumble Prep or Tonic ($18 each). I prefer Tonic, which is Bumble’s “heavier” spray conditioner, on my thick, course hair.

Next, squeeze a small amount of Texture into your palm (I use an amount about the size of a quarter), and distribute and thin it by rubbing both hands together. Now, really work the product into your hair, trying to coat the strands. It may even help to use a comb along with your fingers and hands.

I concentrate on my bangs and the roots in my crown area, but you can also concentrate on the ends, too, like the demonstration in this Bumble styling video.

Alis recommends using a blow dryer to get more volume and better hold than air drying alone, and I agree.

When I use it on my bangs and crown, I get some great height, and my bangs don’t stick out in crazy directions.

Oh, and if I skip washing my hair for a few days after, I can reactivate the product with a spritz of Bumble and Bumble Tonic. Just hit it with the hair dryer, tousle and you’re ready to strike a pose. 🙂

The product does contain dimethicone, in case you’re trying to avoid silicone, but it is listed about half way down the ingredient list. I try to steer clear of silicone styling products because some tend to weigh down my hair, but I like this so much that I’m willing to take that chance. Thank goodness for clarifying shampoos.

Whether you’re a lifelong or budding Bumble and Bumble fan, or just a gal looking for a lift, consider putting Texture on your shopping list.

PRICE: $26 for a 5-oz. bottle; $12 for a smaller 2-oz. one
AVAILABILITY: Available now at select salons and also online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A (expensive, but it hella works)

Timothy Olyphant confusion

Timothy Olyphant and Josh Duhamel
Timothy Olyphant or Josh Duhamel?

So I just started watching this show called Justified, which stars Timothy Olyphant as a US Marshall in rural Kentucky, and even though I’m not exactly sure what’s going on yet because I missed the first few episodes of the season, I’m liking it so far.

The first time I saw the show, it took me a while to figure out that I wasn’t watching Josh Duhamel. I swear he could be Timothy’s doppelganger, or a long lost twin. El Hub mixes ’em up, too. Every time we watch the show, he says, “that guy’s such a jerk for cheating on Fergie.” LOL!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I have long wavy hair that turns into a poofball when it’s dry. Granted, I KNOW I’m not supposed to brush it after it dries but it looks gross if I don’t. Actually, it looks gross either way. So, I looking for something that will make my waves smooth and flowing and not bunched up in little tendrils with fly-aways everywhere. I’m a “noob” when it comes to haircare; I had straight, perfect no maintenance hair up until about 6 years ago and I’ve been lost ever since. Do you think this product would help me achieve perfect waves? If not, can you think of anything that will? I’m so frustrated I wear my hair in a bun 90% of the time!

So obviously I’m not Karen, but I felt compelled to jump in. Have you read Curly Girl by Lorraine Massey? If not, you should. And jump over to naturallycurly.com if you haven’t already. I’ve had waves and curls all my life, and I was completely lost until I discovered these resources. Oh, and livecurlylivefree.com is another really good website. And definitely lose the hairbrush–throw it out! Good luck!

I’ve had a thing for Timothy Olyphant since he was in that movie “Go” with Katie Holmes.

I just discovered this product myself! A friend of mine is picking it up for me and I am so excited to use it! Hair is one thing I have just not been able to manage, I need to start reading more blogs about hair I think!

But thank you for letting me know how to use this product when I get it! I’m so excited!!

My hair stylist recently had a class with B&B since they are launching products in Sephora now and she will be a part of it, and I was her hair model for the class and she used this on my hair and I LOVED IT. I don’t wash regularly anyway and my hair has texture, but this just takes it to a whole new level. It’s the perfect summer hair product!

PS the comic sans is really killing me. It took me like 10 minutes to write that comment.

YES I just found out that B&B is being sold at Sephora. I’m pretty excited about this hair undressing creme….all about the effortless beachy hair! I’m also considering John Masters Organics Sea Salt Spray for the same reason. 😀 The Yes to Tomatoes volumizing hair care line is really great to give my hair some oomph!

Um, this is totally weird, b/c I’m completely having an Olyphant moment right now (a ‘moment’ is when I go temporarily insane over some random actor and have to watch everything he’s in), and every time my bf or anyone else catches me watching something with him, they say, “Huh. Mrs. Fergie. He looks different now”. (And for the record, Olyphant > Duhamel. By a lot, in my book, and yes, partially b/c of the cheating on Fergie thing!)

Annnnyway, I’ve never tried any B&B products but I’ve always been intrigued. Maybe I should start 🙂

I’m going to go with Tim. I’ve seen Justified a few times and I liked it. He has just the right amount of swagger. 🙂 I’ve never tried anything from Bumble and Bumble but this product sounds like a winner. And it sounds similar to the Brocato Cloud 9 Blowout that I currently use.

thick AND sticky? : / I don’t know if I can swing this. It sounds nice though. Oh and I know what you mean about Timothy/Josh. Timothy made a guest appearance on the Office too 🙂 I can always tell the difference b/c I find Timothy HOT 😀

I bought this product partly because of this post’s recommendation and it’s AMAZING. I almost never buy anything but drugstore for hair, but I was using 3 or even 4 drugstore products on my hair every night and wasn’t getting as good an effect as I get from just this one. (I think it balances prices if I can just buy one expensive product instead of 4 cheaper ones.) So if anyone is reading this and wondering whether it’s worth it to try this out, it is!
