$65 Thierry Mugler Make Up Face Shadows & Lights Blush Is Killing Me Softly

May 6th, 2011 by Karen 20 Comments

Thierry Mugler Make Up Face Shadows & Lights Blush works in a very interesting way. The two-step process starts with intense sticker shock! — as the product costs a whopping $65. The resulting loss of blood flow to the face bleaches the color from cheeks; then, and this is the best part, the powder contouring and highlighting duos restore a lifelike appearance. 🙂

But seriously, at least now I know who makes a very expensive, but totally natural-looking, powder blush. The price is like a whole new level of splurge beyond Chanel, but if flawless, airbrushed cheeks are your thing, then it might be worth a shot.

Like a pair of Christian Louboutin basic black pumps without any bells or whistles, the two available shades — Brown & White (a medium warm brown blush with a soft white highlighter) and Pink & White (a light cool pink with a soft white highlighter) — appear restrained and elegant. The duos contain a blend of silky polymers, powders and atomized pigments for a high precision finish with a subtle effect.

What does that mean? It means some of the finest milled powders I’ve ever tried or seen.

I barely see the grains on my skin, and I bet one could apply as many as six layers without producing a heavy, mask-like effect. The quiet sheen they deliver gives off a lovely, soft glow — something like a MAC Beauty Powder turned down a notch or two.

Color fiends and gals who prefer brighter cheek looks probably won’t be impressed by these quiet pigments. They’re nothing like a NARS blush where one swipe of a brush across the pan picks up enough color for both cheeks. Matter of fact, I have to lay down between two and four layers to even get them to show.

With these Thierry didn’t skimp on quality, but it’s hard to overlook the price (as much as three pans of MAC Blush!). Be that as it may, I can see a certain kind of woman really liking these. She’s already carrying next season’s “it” bag, owns a closet filled with designer clothes and prefers a classical, elegant makeup look. If she’s you, then 1) can I borrow that pair of Jimmy Choos?, and 2) you might really like this blush. 🙂

PRICE: $65 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Thierry Mugler makeup counters and also online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B (great products at a terribly high price)

Allergies, I’m so over you

Has anyone else been sneezing up a storm today? There must be something blooming outside, ah-CHOO! I feel like the Karate Kid, except that I’m battling bad allergies in the tournament. And right now they’re winning, big time. Hmm…maybe I need to sweep the leg.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I see what you mean. The powders do look really finely milled. But the price- YIKES! For 65 bucks my cheeks don’t need to look airbrushed, haha.

I’m very curious whether Thierry Mugler foundations are equally fabulous. Here in Europe they aren’t that much more expensive than Guerlain or Chanel…

The pink one does look very nice on you. It does have that “I just spent a week at a spa in Switzerland” glow to it. $65 is a cheap alternative if you want to think of it that way! 🙂

I was okay today, thank goodness, but then I’m on the other side of the country. I do have allergies, though, so I feel for you. xP

Any ideas for a (cheaper) dupe to the Brown portion of Brown & White?

Ugh, way expensive. I prefer brighter blush anyways, like MAC Dollymix. I can’t justify laying down $65 for a blush, though. Any blush! Unless it, like, made me look per-fect-o. And danced. In the pan. And was the endless blush! Never runs out! =D

Oh my Lord, the pink. I’m paler than pale, so a small shot of that pink would sing on me. I don’t think I’ve ever truly coveted blush. Gulp.

    65 dollars…65 dollars…

    Gulp.

I DIE! I love Thierry Mugler cosmetics but cry into my pillow when I think about how I could destroy my bank account in spite of it. I’m mesmerized by the Plexigloss they have, and now this… oh my goodness. Will I ever be able to justify purchasing Thierry Mugler, or will this always be a dream? I’m simple a poor commoner. :’-(

Good thing, there’s no Thierry Mugler counter that I know of here or in Malaysia. Or else, I might just go crazy and splurge on the pink one! love the packaging.

Very pretty, but I’m getting a little tired of these companies charging such outrageous prices. I could buy a lot of cat food for $65. Although the brown looks wonderful on you!

I just bought serge lutens from barneys- $65.00 for lipstains… I got 2!
Same for the mascara….$80.00 for primer.

The quality makes it worth it. I have bought so much substandard makeup before-one use and never using again, this stuff I use all the time. My husband did the math; I am actually saving lots of money, as well as time and frustration.
I have Not bought the blush for &110.00 though!!!!
