MAC Surf Baby Cheek Powder in My Paradise: A Diva in Disguise

May 6th, 2011 by Karen 29 Comments

mac surf baby my paradise cheek powder review

Don’t let the cute hibiscus fool you. Limited edition MAC Surf Baby Cheek Powder in My Paradise, the one and only blush in the upcoming Surf Baby collection, is a total diva in disguise.

The pretty packaging fooled me at first. It lulled me into expecting a run-of-the-mill peachy gold blush, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. My Paradise roars with pigment. It reminds me of NARS Orgasm, except three times as intense, with a lot more reddish orange inside. Yup, you better bring a fan brush to this makeup dance.

About the shimmery gold hibiscus pattern on the pan, it’s not like one of those rice paper thin overlays that disappear after you swipe your brush across them one time. It’s raised well above the level of the pan. I’ve been rubbing at a small section with a finger to try and figure out how long it might last (should last a while).

Something tells me My Paradise will look lovely (and pigmented) on a wide range of skin tones, but I’m extra curious to see how it plays with tans and darker skin. I can’t wait to wear it with gold/green shadows and coral glosses like MAC Lychee Luxe and Viva Glam Cyndi.

PRICE: $28
AVAILABILITY: Coming soon to MAC counters, stores and online May 26 in North America (internationally, some time in May)
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A+

Hmm…

Er, I can’t decide whether this is creepy or kawaii. This animatronic furry headgear supposedly scans your brainwaves when you wear it, and then wiggles and moves to reflect how you feel. The ears droop, perk up and vibrate, kinda like kitty ears.

Imagine showing up to a blind date with someone who was wearing these, LOL! I’d be outta there so fast… 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

You look gorgeous in those colors, Karen 😀

Do you think My Paradise would work at all on cooler, paler skin tones? I’m one-shade-darker-than-dead pale and cool-toned, and I’m thinking it would be too orange on me.

The blush looks very comparable to R&R Immoral (which is matte) but with a little goldish highlighter powder on top, I bet would have the same effect.

I can’t stop thinking about this so I’m planning to get this one. Hahaha! But how does it compare to Benefit’s Coralista?
