Swatch Ya Think About These Custom Color Kits from Smashbox?

July 29th, 2011 by Karen 33 Comments

Last night after dinner I felt like having eye candy for desert, so I zipped over to the Sephora down the street (there’s one literally blocks away, which is equal parts good/bad) just to browse…

No, really! Just to browse. 🙂 And miracle of all miracles, I managed to leave without bringing anything other than these Smashbox swatches home.

These $59 Sephora exclusive Custom Color kits come in three flavors, one for ladies with light skin, another for medium skin and one for dark skin, and each one comes with seven products for eyes, lips and cheeks that, if purchased separately, would cost about $175.

Not too shabby, tabby.

Apologies for the in-store Blair Witchy camera phone pic…

Take a quick look at the swatches, and let me know what you think. Those Cream Eye Trios look pretty awesome to me…

Smashbox Custom Color kit for Light Skin

Swatches from the Left: 1. Eyeshadows in Fizz, 2. Minx and 3. Obsidian; 4. Fusion Soft Lights in Light; 5. Cream Eye Trio in Light; 6. Limitless Eye Liner in Onyx; 7. The Nude Lip Pencil in Light; 8. Lip Enhancing Sheer Color Gloss in Radiant; and 9. Reflection High Shine Lipgloss in Pink Sorbet

Smashbox Custom Color kit for Medium Skin

Swatches from the Left: 1. Eyeshadows in Bliss, 2. Ambient and 3. Ivy; 4. Fusion Soft Lights in Medium; 5. Cream Eye Trio in Medium; 6. Limitless Eye Liner in Onyx; 7. The Nude Lip Pencil in Medium; 8. Lip Enhancing Sheer Color Gloss in Glow; and 9. Reflection High Shine Lipgloss in Buff

Smashbox Custom Color kit for Dark Skin

Swatches from the Left: 1. Eyeshadows in Saharas, 2. Eggplant and 3. Nocturnal; 4. Fusion Soft Lights in Dark; 5. Cream Eye Trio in Medium; 6. Limitless Eye Liner in Onyx; 7. The Nude Lip Pencil in Dark; 8. Lip Enhancing Sheer Color Gloss in Ultra Violet; and 9. Reflection High Shine Lipgloss in Molasses

All three kits are available now at Sephora stores and also online.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S.

TGIF!

Oh, these look fun! I don’t know if I would bother purchasing the “appropriate” kit, though – I’d prolly just pick up the one with the colors I liked best!

Mmm, I love the look of those kits! Smashbox always produces really well-priced sets imo – I always wish I would have picked one up when I first got into makeup 😉 (I definitely don’t need to be adding an entire set into my makeup collection, anymore!)

Although I am probably a medium, I like the colors in the light kit the best! I love Smashbox’s kits….usually I am able to use most or all the products, unlike kits from other brands.

Nice! I actually like the colors in all of the kits – especially the eye shadows in the light and medium.

There used to be Sephora about 20 minutes away from me, but now one opened up in the JC Penny that’s about 5 minutes from my work. I forsee some lunch hours being spent at the mall!

    Happy Friday! 🙂

    Hi Karen,

I was comparing the lip pencils in the medium and dark kits…you have both listed as medium, but they don’t look the same…help me!

I saw these at Sephora 2 weeks ago and I seriously wanted to leave with all 3! I actually think all 3 kits would work on most skin tones! It’s my birthday next Sunday, so I think I may just pick my favorite one and buy it for myself! =) TGIF!

You’re my hero for going to have eye candy for dessert. Hilarious and genius! When I was in Sephora last week, these didn’t seem very appealing. These swatches may have changed my mind – they’re very pretty. I’ll have to go back to Sephora (gosh, that will be terrible!) and check out the light and medium kits. Thanks!

I live five minutes away from one and am there all the time, too! I’ll probably stop by after I get out of the salon (getting my hair cut right now!).

How’s your day going? Good, I hope!

You know, they kind of look like all three would work for all skin tones. I really like the colors in the dark toned set, but I’m super light. Hmm…

Me too! I’m kind of lemming all of them, eek!

Glad to hear that mom enjoyed her birthday celebration and her new purse (CUTE!). I looked up Sarafornia and it looks really cute! Next time I’m up in Calistoga I think hit it up.

I’ve been super excited about the new season of Project Runway. Who are you rooting for? I think I might be Team Burt.

Oh, it’s definitely a great place to eat if you’re looking for breakfast food. They put their eggs benedict on foccacia bread instead of an english muffin, which is a really nice twist.

I’m definitely pulling for Burt on Runway at this point, although from the previews it looks like he may be involved in some drama. Although, you never know from the preview editing what’s really happening and who starts it.
