Sundays with Tabs the Cat, Makeup and Beauty Blog Mascot, Vol. 152

August 14th, 2011 by Karen 52 Comments

Remember how I was saying that Tabs likes my zinnias? Well, I wasn’t kiddin’. All I wanted to do this afternoon was read my book on the deck, but a certain someone wasn’t having it. Every time I took my eyes off him, he’d take another bite!

He likes the catnip, cilantro and the echinacea plant, too, but he LOVES the zinnias. It’s like he’s incapable of resisting it.

An uninvited guest…

When I stepped out of the house today, I spotted our Russian neighbor traipsing around one of our potted catnip plants.

Tabs was like, “WTF!?”

He grows that catnip for medicinal use…

I thought I was going to have to break up a fight, but after Tabs hissed, the Russian Blue backed down. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Wow, that Russian Blue has the most amazing green eyes (but don’t tell Tabs I said that).

I know how you feel about Tabs eating your Zinnias. I had a bunch of African Violets that were blooming so well. Then Zeal ate all the flowers off. 🙁 I was quite sad.

Ohh Tabs needs to re-mark his territory!! LOL cute video! Never realized how Tabs shading really is. I always thought he was purely black and grey striped like my Bella but he looks more darker in the video. Love how he keeps going back to your flowers!
There is this one neighborhood cat that looks like my orange Phantom but bigger, has more white, and i think is female. Well twice i went across the street trying to get the cat thinking its mine after calling it but it would run away from me which Phantom never does. Both times i turn around to go back home and my baby is already waiting for me on the doorstep, watching me harass this other cat like a crazy person! I don’t like other cats coming around as last year a ton of strays showed up and they would chase around my Tiger and sadly one night she never came home and my dad found her and another cat dead on the street. I assume they were hit by a car (maybe the chased each other across the street and in harms way) and my parents had to come to my work with her and the other cat in his truck to tell me. Horrible. I wish i could keep Phantom locked in but he’s somehow break the door down! Too bad mine go for leashed-walks like Tabs. Trust me, i tried! Love your cat posts btw, where else can i get my makeup and inner crazy cat lady fix???

LOL, I understand about the plant eating! Tigger loves plants. He’ll even chew on fake ones! He once devoured a cactus (one of the ones without spines, but still). Yesterday, he chewed at the tops of some leeks for a good fifteen minutes. He was just so happy — I couldn’t take them away from him! I think I’ll chop the tops off and give them to him as a treat, especially since the last batch of cat grass was a dud. I’m trying to grow some more right now. Hopefully, this batch will work!

I’m glad to know that the Russian Blue knew to back down when Tabs hissed at him. Those kitty models are TOUGH; how else would they be able to climb so far up the career ladder? 🙂

Tabs is very cute and naughty, lol. Our kitten, Paws keeps chewing off the shoots on my Wisteria, it drives me mad. Every time there’s a new shoot, if he can reach it from the top of the fence, he will eat it.

I laughed my head off at that, because I know that look all too well! Whenever I leave the room to go get/do something, I’ll always come back to reliably find one of the cats sitting in front of my computer on my chair. They just look at me like “WHAT? This is MY seat, lady!”. LMAO!

omg Tabs … how dare Blue Cat stomp on your territory, no?

when our stray cat comes to eat, our three indoors are by the glass kitchen door — watching straycat’s every.single.move.

then they come to me and whine indignantly, as if to ask, why is he getting food, and we are not, human?

For a second I was wondering “How did Smoky did over to your place and back to Washington so fast?” Smoky’s a Russian Blue as well and that cat is practically a dead ringer for him!

….As for MY flowers? I have to hide any bouquets I get in the washer/dryer room, otherwise I wake up to find baby’s breath eaten, all over the counter (I’ve put flowers on top of our cabinets before and my four cats STILL get up there to get at them) and floor, with four completely innocent faces staring up at me. Unless Dan leaves the door to the washer/dryer room open….then it’s open season due to his selective memory.

Maybe The Russian Blue is Smoky’s brother from another mother, LOL!

I’ve heard about cats loving baby’s breath. Tabs hasn’t discovered that particular delicacy yet. 🙂

What are your kitteh’s names, btw? And what are they like? I wish I had four cats, but Tabs is very territorial and would NOT be into sharing his human assistants.

Their names are Smoky, Lucky, Lady and Gizmo. Two boys and two girls, and all were rescues as kittens. One lady at work had kittens she was trying to find good homes for, so that’s how Lucky and Smoky got to be my first two furbabies, and I went to the shelter not long after we bought our house in 2008 and ended up taking sisters Lady and Gizmo home.

And yes, cats love baby’s breath. And roses. I want to say it’s the leaves that are toxic to cats and not the petals, but I could be wrong. At any rate, I didn’t get to take any of the vases or bouquets of the flowers I designed for my sister’s wedding Saturday afternoon due to the fact that they’d be in tatters by the end of the night. Roses, calla lilies and baby’s breath.

I’ve never figured out why cats eat flowers. Every time I let Remy on the deck, she will attack my husband’s lime tree and blueberry tree till the world’s end. Maybe veggies keep their digestive system in check?
