A Lazy Girl’s Improv Beauty Trick for Smooth, Silky Legs

February 15th, 2013 by Karen 30 Comments

[Ding-dong.]

[Knock, knock, knock.] Hello?

Oh, hai! 🙂 My name is Karen, and I’m here in your neighborhood today on behalf of the Inner Lazy Girls Coalition to spread the word about a Lazy Girls trick I discovered last night.

Do you have a second to chat about wayward leg hair?

You do? Great!

First, please tell me you’re not one of those lucky ladies like my mom who never, ever has to shave. Because if you are, I will pull your hair…

Totally kidding! There will be no hair pulling. This isn’t Jerry Springer circa 1995.

So, hairy legs. Last night while I was getting dressed for my Valentine’s Day dinner with El Hub, I slipped on my date night dress and realized — whoops! I hadn’t shaved my shins since last Sunday.

My hair and makeup were already done, so I wasn’t about to jump in the shower, and a sink shave with my usual EOS Shave Lotion was also out of the question because the bottle was empty (I think my husband has being using it on the down-low).

I looked around the bathroom and had a MacGyver moment when I saw this bottle of Suave Advanced Therapy Lotion ($5) sitting on the shelf.

“Hmm…” I wondered, considering the gigantic bottle in my hand. “Could I use this for an improv shave?”

Only one way to find out!

I slathered a thick layer on both legs, grabbed my razor and hacked away at the wayward hairs. When I finished, I rubbed off the excess lotion with a washcloth, and worked the amount that remained into my legs to moisturize them.

Voila! Smooth, silky legs, no shave cream necessary.

Well, thanks for your time. On behalf of the Inner Lazy Girls Coalition, here’s a solidarity *fist bump*.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

This post literally made me laugh out loud – so glad I’m not the only Lazy Girl who uses lotion when it comes to shaving! 🙂

Love it! I always end up with razor burn if I do anything other than shave in the shower but this sounds like it would work! Cannot believe you used fist bump in this entry and I just dropped fist bump in a comment on your other post! Twilight zone, lol!

Me too, even though I have homework! I specifically planned my errands for Sunday so that I don’t have to leave the house tomorrow. Homework and hanging out with the fur-babies are on the agenda…

I have never even thought of using a lotion instead of a shaving cream. I’ll have to give this a try.

Good to know since I’m a fan of the lotion. Another similar trick I’ve used is hair conditioner when the shaving gel suddenly runs empty.

I do this all the time with lotions that I have acquired that I just don’t care for. It’s a great way to not let them go to waste!

Scherbie headbutts your fistbump. 😀 This was awesome. I’ve tried this trick with oil before and owwie razor burn. Maybe lotion will be better. 🙂 I also regularly use conditioner in the shower instead of shaving cream.

haha! I’ve been using Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Lotion to shave my legs since I learned how to shave when I was thirteen. Definitely good for when you forget to shave in the shower or don’t want to jump in just to shave your legs. Although, I have just sat at the edge of the tub and used soap and water to shave.

Great tip, Karen! I’ve never used lotion but I do use conditioner often–I get such a close shave with it! 🙂

Also, I just HAVE to ask: is your hair just naturally that voluminous and gorgeous or do you use a special product in it? My hair is medium-thick and it just seems like no matter WHAT I do, I can’t get any kind of volume in it!! :/

Nice tip! I will totally try this! Just one question: how thick was the layer of Suave? Thick as a shave cream? Thks!

I use conditioner in the shower 😛 This could be another idea for when I really need to shave but don’t have the time since my hair is done and my makeup (or lack of) is done. Thanks Karen! *fist bump*

You aren’t THAT lazy – you actually shaved your legs! Go you!! Being a very lazy girl, I would have used the lotion to slick down the hairs so that they didn’t stand up and be too noticeable.

Yeah Buddy! Thanks for the lazy no shower tip. Am I the only one who shaves in the shower with just water? I am not very hairy, so that may affect how easy it is for me. Yay for being hairless!

Aloe vera is also a great substitute for shave gel or cream (yes, I mean the bright green Banana Boat kind!).

I’m pretty lazy myself — I only use Veet on my legs, but I do shave my underarms. However, I always nick myself whenever I use anything other than shaving cream. I once nicked my underarm when I used conditioner, and it hurt for a few weeks after.

My skin is quite dry and especially so on my legs, being a woman of a certain age, and the Made from Earth Valencia Orange Lotion does the trick perfectly. Really like this skin cream! No horrible nasties in it. Smells beautifully of oranges .
