The Avene Cold Cream Ultra-Rich Cleansing Bar Isn’t a Soap at All

I don’t know about you, but when it comes to skin cleansers, I like mine liquid, but it doesn’t matter if they’re gels, foams, etc. I’m not extra picky, but I just like to put some on a washcloth or rub them into my face with my hands. As far as cleansing bars are concerned, I usually steer clear.

But then I tried the Eau Thermale Avene Cold Cream Ultra-Rich Cleansing Bar…

Avene Cold Cream Ultra-Rich Cleansing Bar

“Combining the ultra-rich, softening properties of Cold Cream with the soothing, anti-irritating properties of Avene thermal spring water, this ultra-rich cleansing bar gently cleanses and nourishes the most sensitive skin. Its well-tolerated new formula respects the skin’s natural pH and provides a rich, smooth and lightly fragranced lather. Skin is soft and supple again, its comfort is restored.”

Let me be clear — this is not soap, and it’s not drying at all.

Ingredients:
sodium cocoyl isethionate, stearic acid, sodium laurate, sodium stearate, paraffin, sodium myristate, water, fragrance, peg-45 palm kernel glycerides, avene thermal spring water, beeswax, bht, c20-40 pareth-10, cetyl alcohol, cetyl phosphate, glyceryl stearate, methylparaben, mineral oil, sodium hydroxide, titatium dioxide, triethanolamine

It’s a deeply moisturizing soap-free cleansing bar that leaves a protecting film (but no greasy or sticky residue) and maintains your skin’s natural pH.

For my temperamental skin, the white beeswax and mineral oil are just the ticket. The bar creates a magnificently rich, creamy lather with a wonderful powdery scent when I rub it into my face and body in the shower.

For the record, it doesn’t come with the soap holder in the picture above, but I recommend one for your shower/bath because things can get a little messy without some sort of container, which is one of the downside of using a bar. Pieces of this one tend to crumble off over time once it gets wet.

Have you tried any Avene products before? And how do you feel about products that come in bar form?

Ehhhh I don’t know, I don’t think I’ll ever be a cleansing bar/soap bar fan. I don’t like that it just lies there exposed to air and whatnot the whole time.

I have used Avene’s sunscreens and though they feel heavy, those are quite effective. Soap-free facial bar sounds good. I might want to grab one at the earliest opportunity.

I’ve liked all the Avene products I’ve tried, and this looks really nice. I take my eye makeup off with baby soap, so maybe this would be nicer!

I occasionally use Swedish egg white soap on my face and love it. Draws out impurities. Bars can last a lot longer than liquids, which is a plus (though it sounds like this one might not, if it crumbles). I keep them in a dry cabinet way from the shower, otherwise they melt away!

Actually recently picked up the Avene TriAcnéal Expert, after reading a review from another blogger. I’m diggin it. It’s for acne prone skin and it’s so much less drying than benzoyl peroxide. I very rarely hear much talk about this brand so it’s nice to see more reviews from this line.

I haven’t tried that product! It looks interesting though!
