Makeup of the Day With Laura Mercier, and the BEST Liquid Eyeliner by Eyeko

April 21st, 2022 by Karen 6 Comments

Third day in a row of wearing makeup! Someone should throw me a parade, for real.

I’m wearing the epic $22 Eyeko liquid liner in Cocoa Edit today, and FYI, not only is it the real deal (long lasting, easy to apply, doesn’t smudge), it just got restocked at Ulta. It’s an online exclusive, so unfortunately you can’t just roll up to your local store, but if you don’t mind the wait, it’s the best dark brown liquid liner out there right now, IMHO.

(Yes, I just added one to my cart!)

I’m wearing Cocoa Edit with a few Laura Mercier staples:

  • First is Burnished Bronze, a shimmery bronze cream shadow stick which I applied directly onto my lids and then blended out with a finger.
  • Second is Ginger blush, a sheer matte peachy nude. It goes with everything.
  • Last but not least, Eye Basics in Wheat. It’s a cream shadow that also doubles as a primer. I like it as an all-over base.

Seriously, how is it already Thursday? I’m having one of those weeks where the days feel long, but the week has felt short.

Hope things on your end are peachy.

Karen

Eyeko Cocoa Edit: A Long-Wearing Liquid Liner Loaded With Pigment!

March 8th, 2022 by Karen 6 Comments

I guess I’m not the only person who thinks Eyeko’s Cocoa Edit liquid liner ($22) is all that because it’s sold out in all the usual haunts (including Ulta, where I just added myself to a restock notification list). BAH! Still, SO. SUPER. GOOD.

It’s a rich, intense, dark chocolate brown with a shiny finish and a long-wearing formula that just keeps going. I can wear it all day, and it won’t transfer into my crease or smudge along my lower lash line, yet when it’s time to take off my makeup at night, it easily slips off with an oil-based cleanser.

The thin felt tip is long enough for me to easily draw an uninterrupted line from inner to outer corner, and because the tip’s flexible, I can flick the ends of my lines with very little drama. When I’m done, my liner is crisp and sharp with a shiny finish.

It’s so much better compared to the Clinique Easy Pen liner in brown. I bought it a while back thinking it would be just as life changing as the black Easy Pen liner, but the brown version isn’t nearly as pigmented as the black one, and it lacks staying power.

Hopefully Ulta will restock Cocoa Edit soon, and when they do, I’m buying two!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Speaking of things to fall in love with, get thee to Trader Joe’s and buy a pack or two of these Rosemary Croissant Croutons, and then thank me later.

Line! Here Are a Few Eyeko Fall 2015 Liners You Might Want to Try

November 24th, 2015 by Karen 11 Comments

eyeko fall 2015

Eyeko is one of those brands I think of whenever I picture hip British girls wearing winged liner, ripped jeans, leather jackets and ankle boots with, like, purposefully messy, yet fabulous, hair.

Yeah…I’m nowhere near hip enough to pull off that look, LOL! But that doesn’t stop me from wearing their makeup from time to time. 🙂

Peek-a-boo!

Here are a few of their things I’ve been wearing lately (all of which are available now at Eyeko counters and online), and some of these are still new-ish for fall…

  • Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner ($18) — New for fall, this stuff is dark, opaque and black — not black with blue or gray undertones, but black, as in black — and it dries to a matte finish.

The skinny tip is a little on the stiff side, which I don’t usually like, but I don’t mind this one. It works, and I can draw nice, smooth lines with it.

  • Eyeko Me and My Shadow Waterproof Shadow Liners in Quartz and Taupe ($20 each) — I like both of these two new shades SO MUCH MORE than the Charcoal shade I tried last year (which fell out of the tube every time I opened it).

Both are semi-sheer; shimmery but not too shimmery; easy to blend, whether with the brush on the back end or with fingers; and they fully set in about five minutes.

Good for the makeup minimalists among us.

  • Eyeko Sport Waterproof Mascara ($25) — Here’s a good waterproof mascara if you’re on the market. I like the lift, curl hold, length, waterproof-ness (holds up to sweat like a champ) and the deep black color.

Layers well, too. I believe it’s been in the Eyeko permanent line a while, but it’s still new to me.

  • Eyeko Fat Liquid Liner ($18) — This stuff isn’t my favorite, because every time I take the short, stiff, chubby felt tip to my lash lines, I end up looking like a blindfolded cat did my liner…

    It’s dark and opaque though.

Should You Say Eye Do to Eyeko Makeup?

November 28th, 2014 by Karen 22 Comments

Wearing Eyeko Brow liner, Eye Do Liquid Eyeliner and Eye Do Mascara; Lips are MAC Matte Lipstick in Damn Glamorous

Bangs and a British accent are partly responsible for attracting me to Eyeko makeup.

I desperately wanted to believe that lining my eyes, coating my lashes and filling in my brows with Eyeko products would summon the powers of makeup magic, so that suddenly, one misty morning, I’d awaken with fab fringe and a bangin’ British accent like Alexa Chun, the stylish model/TV presenter/writer and face of the Eyeko brand.

Hey, man, you never know… Stranger things have happened. 🙂

If, one day, I’m pimpin’ Lloyd Christmas hair in my pictures and start a post with, “I fancy a pasty this morning and a spot of tea!” you’ll know the deal.

I’ve been using some of Eyeko’s permanent collection products lately — a couple of their liquid liners, a mascara and a brow filler — and here are a few thoughts…

Visual Eyes Liquid Eyeliner ($19)

This waterproof liquid liner’s thin, flexible felt tip says “meow!” to the part of me that loves kitten flicks and skinny lines (it’s a BIG part). It’s preternaturally precise, but I have to make quite a few passes with it to get the color fully opaque, and that’s a bit of a bummer.

I’ve been using Mocha, the brown shade, but it’s also available in Ebony and Marine.

Eyeko Eye Do Liquid Eyeliner: Purrfect for Cat Ladies and Crying Insomniacs

January 27th, 2014 by Karen 10 Comments

Oh, black cat eyeliner, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways…

One…

Wait — I’d much rather talk about this in a video review. Here’s a look at a new liquid liner I’ve been using a lot lately, $19 Eye Do Liquid Eyeliner by Eyeko.

This jet-black collaboration between Eyeko and British it-gal Alexa Chung is designed to be worn on lash and/or water lines.

Press play to hear how it fares throughout the day, and if Eye Do sounds like something you’d like to try, it’s available now at Sephora and online.

Thank you, as always, for watching. 🙂

In other news, how’s your Monday coming along? I’m hanging in there, but I feel like my brain only half turned on today. Don’t you hate it when that happens? I’m working at about 50% brain efficiency right now.

Words. Difficult. String. Together.

Big sigh… It happens sometimes (often on Mondays), and when it does, I just try to go with the flow. I mean, what else can you do?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen
