Should You Say Eye Do to Eyeko Makeup?

November 28th, 2014 by Karen 22 Comments

Wearing Eyeko Brow liner, Eye Do Liquid Eyeliner and Eye Do Mascara; Lips are MAC Matte Lipstick in Damn Glamorous

Bangs and a British accent are partly responsible for attracting me to Eyeko makeup.

I desperately wanted to believe that lining my eyes, coating my lashes and filling in my brows with Eyeko products would summon the powers of makeup magic, so that suddenly, one misty morning, I’d awaken with fab fringe and a bangin’ British accent like Alexa Chun, the stylish model/TV presenter/writer and face of the Eyeko brand.

Hey, man, you never know… Stranger things have happened. 🙂

If, one day, I’m pimpin’ Lloyd Christmas hair in my pictures and start a post with, “I fancy a pasty this morning and a spot of tea!” you’ll know the deal.

I’ve been using some of Eyeko’s permanent collection products lately — a couple of their liquid liners, a mascara and a brow filler — and here are a few thoughts…

Visual Eyes Liquid Eyeliner ($19)

This waterproof liquid liner’s thin, flexible felt tip says “meow!” to the part of me that loves kitten flicks and skinny lines (it’s a BIG part). It’s preternaturally precise, but I have to make quite a few passes with it to get the color fully opaque, and that’s a bit of a bummer.

I’ve been using Mocha, the brown shade, but it’s also available in Ebony and Marine.

Eye Do Liquid Eyeliner ($19)

Now here’s a liner Cleopatra would have liked. It’s long-wearing, waterproof and darker than the depths of the Nile at midnight. The short, firm felt tip feels like a marker and makes drawing dots between my lashes a breeze… That’s mostly what I use it for, in fact — to thicken my lash line, although it would also work for drawing thin lines and cat flicks, but I rarely use it for that, as crisp edges aren’t among one of this liner’s strengths. Available in black.

Brow Liner ($19)

Weirdly wimpy and sheer in swatches, Eyeko’s Brow Liner makes more sense once you get it in brows, where it’s great for creating a full, softly structured natural look. If, however, you’re going for hyper-defined brows with tails capable of cutting glass…you might not be into it.

Lasts all day, and it’s available in one shade, a sheer brownish taupe, that Eyeko refers to as universal.

Me & My Shadow Shadow Liner ($19)

Gotta say, not really feelin’ this cream eyeshadow…

Every time I open it, the shadow stick falls out.

No, literally, it falls out of the tube and lands on my desk. Then, when I do get it on my lids, it creases within minutes.

Grr.

The shade I’ve been using is called Charcoal, a sparkly gray, but it’s also available in Chocolate and Taupe.

Eyeko Eye Do Mascara ($26)

This water-resistant mascara probably could have been called Drill Sergeant, because it really orders lashes around, gathering them into groups of three or four, so you get a spiked, anime-like lash look.

Very cool and different. I also like the lift and curl and how it doesn’t flake or smudge (although it’s not a volumizing champ).

It comes with a small plastic guitar pick-looking doohickey that you’re supposed to use to shield your lashes from your skin so you don’t get excess product on your lash lines…but I rarely use it. It’s cute though.

Available in one shade called Carbon Black.

So, overall, do I like what I’ve tried from Eyeko makeup? Ya know…Eye Do. 🙂

Eyeko products are available now at Eyeko counters and online.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Eye Do? You’re too cute, Karen! I haven’t tried anything from Eyeko although I have heard good things about the eyeliners.

Happy Friday (and yay for work being over in 6 minutes)!

Nice! What are you going to do with the rest of your time off? Any Black Friday shopping?

Hmmm, I’m not feeling the Eye-do. Alexa does have that Jean Shrimpton-60s vibe though.

I cannot do cat eyeliner (rarhh!). My almond eye shape does not permit it. It looks more like a seagull wing that can’t take off.

    Have a happy Friday!

The idea of a brow liner that’s natural is something I’d be into.

Hmmmmmmm I, sorry, eye don’t know about this to be honest… I don’t think I’d get along very well with these products.

Not sure if I’d (eyed?) be friends with this brand. But I love how it seems you’re able to make most any brand work! Impeccable skills, gurl!

Eye love me some Alexa Chung, and am already a big tea person, but apart from that I have read mixed reviews on the products and the flaws you pointed out are massive deal-breakers for me.
Maybe I´ll get a mascara just for the packaging. Such things DO happen…

I have used the Eye Do Liquid liner since late summer and was surprised by just how much I liked it….it runs a close second to my KVD Tattoo liner. I also recently picked up a tube of the Black Magic mascara—since I have so many standard mascaras, I opted for a their fun Midnight Blue shade!

I love eyeko’s liners! I’ve been using them ever since I got one in a birchbox years ago. BTW…love the cute sweater you’re wearing with the lace detail in the pics!

You’d expect a brand like Eyeko to be amazing since their products are very eye-concentrated. However, I found that their liquid eyeliners are so dry and they dry quickly in the package. It dried a few days after I purchased it, and luckily I was able to return them. “Them” because I tried twice. Oh well. Stila is still my #1!

Karen – we Brits don’t eat pasties in the morning! They’re meat filled puff pastry that we would only eat for lunch or evening meal, unless you mean pastries, which is altogether different..!

Thanks for the info Sarah! The one time I had a pasty I ate in the morning. I didn’t know it was faux pas! All I knew was that I was hungry, LOL!

Haha the guitar pick-looking doohickey – YESH!

I TOO have troubles using that gizmet, it’s just awkward to hold and I actually end up making more mess than if I didn’t use it in the first place!

Love my Eyeko Skinny Brush Mascara tho – amazing. x

I confess – I have a stash of Eyeko’s Fat Balms hidden away, but since they discontinued those, I’m just not into this brand anymore. I miss the kawaii packaging they used to have, too.

I’ve tried Eyeko liquid eyeliner before, but it ran like Forrest Gump. Kind of scared me away from the brand. I do like the guitar pick thingy, though — I need one of those ASAP! I always get mascara all over lol

I took a tube of the Eyeko Skinny Brush mascara (never tried it before) with me on vacation last week and realized I forgot my eyelash curler. The Eyeko was amazing! It curled my lashes and made them fuller and longer. Its my new favorite.

I totally laughed at your Lloyd Christmas comment. It was much funnier than the movie (part 2). Of course, the THREE boys liked it and have been quoting it for days. I was happy to be the runner for popcorn refills. 🙂

I had my eyeko skinny liner for an entire year before I was so sick of using it and just threw it away. I used it nearly everyday! The trick is to clean the felt tip every month. Just run some water over it and squeeze the tip and BAM, new liner 😀
