The Massively Moisturizing Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Lip Shines

February 27th, 2017 by Karen 9 Comments

The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Lip Shines are $8.99 each

Sorry, guys, these new Neutrogena Hydro Boost Lip Shines will do absolutely nothing to keep your socks dry during a torrential downpour.

That’s unfortunate because, as you know, wet socks are the worst!

These Lip Shines can, however, help you in a myriad of other ways. For instance, they can help you stop sounding like a broken record, because if you use them, you won’t have to keep telling people that your lips are perpetually dry… Plus, they can help your ponytail stop getting stuck in your gloss, since they aren’t sticky. And they can even help your lips remain glossy after you have a cup of coffee.

Basically, they’re helpful like that.

Neutrogena recently added these super shiny lippies to their permanent collection, along with the Hydro Boost Tints, which are FANTASTIC, and their Hydro Boost Concealers, which I think are just meh… Thankfully, like the terrific Tints, these are total hits.

Hydration elation

They come in eight shades for $8.99, so they don’t cost an arm and a leg. I really like that they tick the top box on my dry lip lady list, which is hydration.

Normally, I wouldn’t reach for a gloss when my dry lips are like crispy bacon, but I’ll grab these quicker than a tabby can twitch a whisker because they’re mega moisturizing.

Ingredients
Polybutene, Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate, Octyldodecanol, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, VP/Hexadecene Copolymer, Tribehenin, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Sodium Hyaluronate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Tocopherol, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, BHT. May Also Contain: Red 7 Lake, Iron Oxides, Blue 1 Lake, Red 22, Yellow 5 Lake, Titanium Dioxide, Red 6, Yellow 5 Lake, Red 28 Lake, Blue 1 Lake

Look at that pigment payoff!

Especially among the brighter and darker colors like Flushed Coral 30, Vibrant Raspberry 60, Velvet Wine 70 and Deep Cherry 80.

The lighter shades, though — Soft Blush 10, Berry Brown 20 and Pink Sorbet 40 — look pretty similar on my lips, but I’m not hating them. They still apply incredibly smoothly and moisturize like a mofo. Plus, it’s not easy to find light lip glosses that aren’t milky, don’t settle into lip lines, and don’t look weird. And these don’t.

Are they a Chanel dupe?

If you’re a devotee of House Chanel, these might remind you of the Glossimers. They have a similarly smooth, shiny, non-sticky formula, and I swear, they seem more expensive than they are.

Work those biceps!

The only thing I don’t like is the applicator…

The bulky tear-dropped shaped paddle is great in some ways (it covers a large area), but sometimes it’s hard to get it and out of the tube… It’s just plain awkward, but it’s more of a minor aggravation than a major quibble.

The final verdict

These are definitely a DO! For $8.99, I think they’re fabulous. Most of them are potently pigmented, and all of them are comfortable, shiny and smooth. If you happen to want three or four of them, then you, my friend, are my lipgloss spirit animal.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Concealer

February 17th, 2017 by Karen 4 Comments

neutrogena hydro boost hydrating concealer
The new Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Concealers ($12.99 each, available in five shades)

Hydration? Concealer? Hi, my name is Karen, and I immediately want to try anything and everything that moisturizes and hides my dark circles.

It’s my lot in life, and perhaps the sole reason why I was put on this earth — to try every under-eye concealer ever made by man and woman kind.

So…I wanted to love new Hydro Boost Hydrating Concealer from Neutrogena because I’m all about their Hydro Boost Tint (seriously, it’s one of the best drugstore face products I’ve ever tried), but eh — it’s not my fave.

Like the foundation, it contains moisturizing hyaluronic acid, along with a special moisturizing core in the center of the tube.

With concealer on the left, and wearing the shade Medium 40 on the right

I’ve used it a couple times so far… Yes, it feels and looks lightweight, so it’s not going to hang out in your fine lines or look caked-on and obvious (yay!), but the thing is…it doesn’t really cover very much. It’s SO sheer.

Swatches from the top in Fair 10, Light 20, Light/Medium 30, Medium 40 and Deep 50

I just like my under-eye concealers to be more opaque. When I put a good amount under my eyes, my inner voice says, “MOAAAARR.” It also straight-up disappears as the day wears on.

At least it isn’t too expensive. It’s only $12.99. If you’re curious (it’s good if you think you can get away with sheer coverage), there are five shades in the line, and they’re available at drugstore and online now.

Shoes for the Coywolf

I have to buy the Coywolf some shoes…

She’s almost a year old, and every single pair of shoes I’ve put on her, she pulls off. She sits there and takes them off. Socks too.

But now that she’s walking, I wanna take her outside more to explore with me, so I gotta get her some shoes…

She does have one pair of kitty moccasins that she got as a gift for Christmas, and she kindasorta can’t take those off, but she’s almost outgrown them.

I was looking at the Carter’s website and saw these cute little kitty shoes…

Yay! They’re 50% off today!

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Tint Is a Lovely, Lightweight Medium-Coverage Tinted Moisturizer

February 17th, 2017 by Karen 22 Comments

The new Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Tints ($14.99 each, available in 10 shades)

Is new Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Tint as fun as…sliding down the Summit Plummet at Disney’s Blizzard Beach or hiking to Wailua Falls on Kauai and frolicking in the secluded pool?

Hmm…maybe! It’s fun if your idea of fun is having your foundation look completely natural.

If I saw a friend, and he/she was wearing this foundation, I don’t know if I’d be able to tell. I’d just admire how even-toned and dewy his/her skin looked. Then I’d ask their secret!

That’s a BIG doe foot

Ultra smooth…

Hydro Boost is an oil-free tint/foundation with hydrating hyaluronic acid to plump skin for up to 24 hours, but ya know…the texture is the real special sauce. It’s fluffy, mousse-like and incredibly easy to blend. When I use the over-sized doe-foot applicator to dot it on my face, then blend it in with my fingers, it glides and creates a thin, even layer, which is then undetectable, even on my cray-cray dry skin.

These Neutrogena Healthy Skin Blushes Are My Latest Drugstore Beauty Infatuation

October 1st, 2015 by Karen 18 Comments

The Neutrogena Healthy Skin Blushes

Close your eyes, and imagine your favorite, coziest, most comfortable sweatshirt. How warm and soft it feels…

Now, you step out of the shower. Ooh! — the tiles are cold, and you reach over and grab your glorious sweatshirt, then pull it on over your head. Then you put your arms through the sleeves.

Ah… So soft and snuggly.

OK, basically, these powder blushes feel like that! 🙂

My goodness, they’re soft.

(How soft are they?)

Well, if you, like me, have clumsy Shrek hands early in the morning and you attempt to open one of these, try not to accidentally jab it with a nail, because you’ll probably take out a huge divot. That’s how incredibly creamy and soft they are.

According to Neutrogena, they have a gel base, which is supposed to make the application smoother.

4 Steps to Clearer Skin With the Neutrogena #LetsSolveIt Campaign

August 28th, 2015 by Karen 12 Comments

neutrogena-4-steps-k

Somewhere between trying to squeeze in as much outdoorsy time as possible in the second half of summer, a bunch of stressful side projects, a particularly bad bout of insomnia (I keep waking up around the Witching Hour and then can’t fall back asleep) and the steady stream of ice cream I’ve been eating after dinner (even though I know what happens when I have too much dairy), I’ve started breaking out.

It’s nothing too bad…yet (knocks on wood), definitely not as bad as the huge humdingers I get sometimes along my jawline. These are just little whiteheads on my chin and around the edge of my forehead, and a couple of body breakouts on my chest and booty.

Yes, girl, booty — specifically, my left butt cheek, if you must know.

Is that TMI? Probably, but it’s not like I’m the first person (or the last) to get a painful pimple on their bum.

Anyway! When Neutrogena and Walgreens asked if I was down to switch up my acne-fighting game with their #LetsSolveIt campaign and take the quiz at SolveMyAcne.com, I thought, “Good timing!”

I’ve had great luck with Neutrogena skin care over the years, and I dig Walgreens (I used to go there on my breaks every day when I worked in SF), so I said “sure!”

Getting back into the swing of things at school after summer break is stressful enough. Who needs the ADDED stress of a bad breakout? Get expert skin care recs with the Neutrogena #LetsSolveIt campaign by taking the Acne-Fighting Quiz at SolveMyAcne.com, and feel fabulously confident in clearer skin.

First step: the quiz. And it’s not one of those quizzes that they say is only going to take two minutes but ends up taking 20. It really is just a handful of easy questions.

Like so…

Based on my answers, here are the four products the quiz recommended for me and my combo dry/oily skin:

The Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear Eye Shadow + Built-In Primer Quads in Smoky Steel, Cocoa Mauve and Classic Nude

January 8th, 2015 by Karen 14 Comments

Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear Eye Shadow + Built-In Primer in Smoky Steel 30
Smoky Steel 30 (no, that is not the name of a superhero or a robot, although it certainly sounds like it could be)

Must play with all the pretties!

Guess what these Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear Eye Shadow + Built-In Primer quads do?

You guessed it — they combine a primer with a powder eyeshadow for supposedly extra long wear. I tried some of the Cocoa Mauve quad colors on my right eye yesterday, just to see how they looked and blended, and they were good on both counts, but then I took them off. I’ll give them a proper try this weekend.

And I’ll probably still wear ’em with a regular primer underneath anyway, because, you know, some habits are hard to break. 🙂

Overview

  • There are six different quads/color combinations — Cool Plum, Soft Taupe, Smoky Steel, Cocoa Mauve, Mink Brown and Classic Nude — available now at drugstores and online for $9.49 each.
  • Pigment ranges from sheer to medium, depending on the color
  • The Cocoa Mauve and Classic Nude quad shadows have a satiny finish that’s very forgiving of mah fine lines (thank you very much).

Currently on the Bathroom Shelf: Fourth of July Sun Protection Products From Neutrogena, L’Occitane, Vichy, Avene and Philip Kingsley

July 1st, 2014 by Karen 7 Comments

Sun protection from Neutrogena, L'Occitane, Philip Kingsley, Vichy and Avene
Sun protection from Neutrogena, L’Occitane, Philip Kingsley, Vichy and Avene

It’s almost Fourth of July, and fireworks are completely legal in my bathroom!

Wait — that was weird.

By fireworks, I’m referring to exciting sun protection products, like these things currently celebrating their independence on my bathroom shelf. 🙂

Neutrogena Age Shield Face Oil-Free Lotion SPF 110

When a two-digit SPF ratings just isn’t enough, there’s Neutrogena Age Shield Face Oil-Free Lotion SPF 110, which I’ve been using every day for about a month.

The oil-free formula is fabulous to the max! Not only is it easy to apply makeup on top of it, but it doesn’t pill up into little flecks, or otherwise behave strangely no matter what I wear it with — primer, foundation, whatever else.

Best of all, it’s not greasy! — so when I put it on my neck, it doesn’t feel all sticky and gross. For $12.99, you get a 3-ounce tube, and it’s available now at drugstores, Ulta and online.

L’Occitane Jenipapo Gel-Protecting Body Jelly Milk SPF 20

I like L’Occitane’s Jenipapo Protecting Body Jelly Milk SPF 20 for a couple of reasons.

First, the name. Jenipapo.

That’s pure win right there. 🙂

As for the formula, I like it for light SPF protection when I only plan to catch a few rays while running errands or going for a quick walk.

It’s a lightweight, moisturizing sunscreen lotion that smells ah-maze-balls! It starts with notes of watermelon, orange, pineapple, frangipani and Lily of the Valley, and dries down to a smooth vanilla musk.

It launched last May with a whole slew of skin care, fragrance and sun protection products in L’Occitane’s Au Brasil line, a range inspired by the fabulous foliage of Brazil.

Jenipapo, a fruit tree found in Brazil’s Cerrado tropical savanna, is said to be very moisturizing.

Better Together: Maybelline Stormy Sahara Colorsensational Lipstick and Neutrogena Healthy Peach MoistureShine Gloss

June 3rd, 2014 by Karen 15 Comments

I stumbled on this lip combo last weekend while I was rifling around in my purse looking for something to wear with the warm neutral eye brown look I did with the Smashbox Full Exposure eye palette.

It was kind of like an epiphany. I saw the products together and thought, “Huh. I wonder…”

I love that you can find both Maybelline Stormy Sahara Lipstick and Neutrogena Healthy Peach MoistureShine Gloss at the drugstore (yay for affordable beauty products!).

I think this combo gives just enough nude peachy color to my lips without looking too nude, ya know what I mean?

And to kick it up a notch, you could add a lip liner like MAC Subculture or Staunchly Stylish. I bet either of those would look really pretty.

Ooh! Coincidentally, speaking of really pretty, the Hourglass Sunset/Mood Lighting cheek combo from the other day looks fab with this look.
