Why “Eye” Love Tom Ford Cream Color for Eyes in Caviar…

October 4th, 2017 by Karen 15 Comments

Tom Ford Cream Color for Eyes in Caviar + your BFF black pencil liner + two coats of mascara = easiest smoky eye ever

Tom Ford’s gorgeous gunmetal Caviar cream shadow is many things: enduring, easy to blend, and it’s basically everything you ever wanted for the easiest smoky eye ever (just add black liner and mascara), but none of those are why it holds a special place in my heart.

It’s special to me because it’s what I was wearing when Connor said the word “eye” for the first time.

Backstory: she already knows some of the words for body parts, so if I say “Show mommy your ears,” she’ll point to her ears. She just hasn’t said many of the words yet, but last week when I was wearing Caviar on my lids with a Cargo black pencil on my lash lines (my eyes were a little dramatic that day, which is how I roll on a Friday afternoon!), I was changing her diaper and talking to her when Connor pointed up at me and emphatically said, “Eye! Eye! Eye!”

Uh… She was pointing at my makeup! I was almost ready to ask Tom to be her godfather, haha!

Tom Ford Boys & Girls: The Cutest Little Lipsticks That I Ever Did See

September 28th, 2017 by Karen 16 Comments

tom ford lips and girls
A handful (literally) of the new Tom Ford Boys & Girls Lipsticks ($36 each and available right meeeeeow)

When ya can’t decide which Tom Ford lipstick to wear, you wear them all. 🙂

These are from the new Tom Ford Boys & Girls lipstick collection available on counters now. They’re creamy and moisturizing, which is what I need today because my lips are killing me, Smalls!

Wait for it…

My kisser is crazy dry this morning, with a large scoop of EVEN MOAR DRY on the side. I mean, if my lips were a desert, they’d be frickin’ Death Valley right now.

Whoops! — there’s goes a tumbleweed. Let’s wait for it to roll by…

Thankfully, these Boys & Girls Lipsticks are hella moisturizing, and I think my dry lips and dry-lipped ladies will approve.

They also all have girl names, but after an exhaustive search, I’m sad to report that there isn’t one named Karen. 🙁

What’s up with that, Tom?

Tom Ford Cream Color for Eyes in Spice

September 7th, 2017 by Karen 8 Comments

tom ford spice
$46 Tom Ford Cream Color for Eyes Cream Eyeshadow in Spice

I’ve been trying to get myself out there more in the beauty biz lately, going to more work lunches and work coffees, partly to get out of the house/baby jail, and when I do venture out, Connor usually chills with my mom, but also to network and get some different perspectives and career ideas.

I don’t really think about not blogging on MBB, but it’s been 10 years, and I do feel the urge to spread my wings and also try other things. I don’t know, really.

So when I’ve gone to these lunch meetings this summer, I’ve worn Tom Ford Cream Color for Eyes in Spice to quite a few of them. In my opinion, it says, “Yes, I’m responsible…but I also know makeup, and I can blend the living crap of the outer third if need be.”

LOL!

Ironically, or at least interestingly to me, lately when I’ve meet people who work in the makeup industry, most of them aren’t wearing a lot of makeup. I used to expect that people in the biz would, because, you know, they’re in the trenches, but most of them don’t do a glam full-face beat to go to coffee on a Tuesday.

When I go to these meetings, I want to make a good impression, and I like the pairing of warm golden bronze Spice with a matte powder shadow in my crease (usually MAC Soba or Saddle).

Then I tight line with some black liner and add a couple coats of mascara.

I think it’s an elegant, timeless, professional eye look.

Tom Ford Burnished Copper Creme Colour for Eyes: 5 Reasons to Fall Hopelessly in Love

August 22nd, 2017 by Karen 9 Comments

tom ford burnished copper
Tom Ford Burnished Copper Creme Colour for Eyes ($46), a must-have from the TF permanent line

1. It’s the perfect color for your dream ? dragon

If I had a dragon, I’d want her (because she’d be a girl, obvs) to be the same exact color as Tom Ford Burnished Copper Creme Color For Eyes — a beautiful deep khaki with hints of gold.

And speaking of dragons…OMG, Game of Thrones! Can we talk about it please? Because I’m still shaken from last Sunday’s episode, and I need to release all the feelings.

2. The finish is unreal

It’s like purposefully weathered metal. Not super metallic. More like buffed to a fine patina. The shine is dampened down, but it’s definitely there, and it’s unlike anything else in my makeup collection.

tom ford burnished copper
Got nothin’ but love for Tom Ford Burnished Copper. On my cheeks I’m wearing It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Blush in Sweet Cheeks (new for fall 2017), and that’s MAC Koi Coral Lipstick from the permanent line on my lips.

3. It wears so well that you can even skip primer

Yeah, man! Burnished Copper’s BFF is bare freakin’ lids. No matter how I work it (sheer or layered or with other eye products), I get a full day’s wear sans creasing or drama. Yeah, you can wear a primer with it if you want to (I recommend NARS Pro-Prime if you do. It’s the best!), but if you’re feeling lazy, 1) I can relate, and 2) Burnished Copper doesn’t really need one, so save yourself the effort, and use all that extra energy to do a quick dance in your chair.

Go ahead, I’ll wait. 🙂

Countdown to National Lipstick Day on July 29th! Tom Ford Moisturecore Lip Color in Paradiso

July 24th, 2017 by Karen 11 Comments

tom ford paradiso
Five more days until National Lipstick Day, Saturday, July 29th

Question: why isn’t every day National Lipstick Day? Because it should be. Every day should also be National Tubby Tabby Day, National Doughnut Day ? and National Black Stretchy Pants Day.

Every. Damn. Day.

But seriously (as if), National Lipstick Day ? is a thing, and it’s almost here! It’s Saturday, July 29th, and I’m kicking it off by wearing some of my favorite lippies, like this cutie from Tom Ford called Paradiso, a.k.a. the current BFF of my dry-lipped life, because it’s so moisturizing that I feel like I’m standing underneath a tropical waterfall whenever I wear it…

OK, so, maybe that’s a little over-dramatic, but it really is moisturizing, and look at that dreamy finish, ooh-la-la!

Paradiso is a smooth coral Moisturecore Lip Color in the four-piece Tom Ford Paradise capsule collection, an online exclusive available now.

Because it’s Tom Ford, I have to warn you… Take a deep breath (*inhales sharply*), because it’s $55.

I know!

But it’s massively more moisturizing than most moisture-rich lipsticks. The inner core is packed with potent passionfruit oil, and the outer lip color contains a blend of melon fruit extract and murumuru butter.

Tastes and smells like yummy vanilla, too.

The Lust List, Vol. 8: Stuff I Kinda Want

May 10th, 2017 by Karen 31 Comments

Pricey palette mania!

What is it about pricey makeup palettes — or me, for that matter, haha! — that makes me wish I could give them all a happy home? Especially the warm ones with a golden brown, a taupe, golden beige and/or peach?

I want to tell them all, “Come live with me, little lovelies, and we shall skip and prance under the light of the full moon.”

On that note…please try to ignore the crazy lady typing on her keyboard, and proceed ahead to this week’s Lust List. 🙂

  1. Charlotte Tilbury Seductive Instant Look in a Palette ($75) — Thanks, gals, for telling me that the Charlotte Tilbury Seductive palette looks great on medium and darker skin tones! Now it’s on mah wish list.
  2. MZ WALLACE Mia Bedford Nylon Crossbody Bag ($325) — This is a straight-up mom bag, and yes, I want it. I’ve been carrying around the same brown Kipling nylon bag FOR YEARS, and it’s starting to look a little long in the tooth… This one’s much more stylish. I like the gold hardware and the red accents. Classy. PLUS, LOOK AT ALL THOSE POCKETS. They’ll come in handy for Connor’s binkies and all the Ziploc plastic bags I seem to need at all times.
  3. Tom Ford Nude Dip Palette ($83) — I have one of Tom’s quads with this same powder shadow formula (it’s even silkier than TF’s other quads, and the shimmer looks almost glossy), and this version? [INSERT DROOL HERE] I’m all about neutral taupe, browns, peach and beige.

Been wanting this FOREVER but have yet to add it to my collection. One could probably wear it along with the Charlotte Tilbury Seductive palette, yes?

  4. BECCA X Chrissy Teigan Glow Face Palette ($46) — I’ve put this in my cart — no joke — at least five times, and when I finish writing this post, I’ll probably do it again. This palette is a collab with model and cookbook author Chrissy Tiegan, and it sold out on the Sephora website in about two seconds.

It’s still on the BECCA site, though! There’s a bronzer, two highlighters and a blush in it, and everything’s warm toned, which is so my jam. My rationale for getting it is that if I also get one for my mom (despite the fact that she hardly ever wears makeup, so this makes NO SENSE AT ALL), I should also be able to get one for myself. Right? RIIIIIIIGHT!

  5. Chanel Contour Eyeshadow Brush #20 ($38) — I’m doing a terrible job of convincing myself that I don’t need any more Chanel eyeshadow brushes…

Why do they have to be SO SOFT?? I keep picturing a whole slew of them in a dainty jar on my desk, and now I can’t un-see that image.

Hit me with what you got on your lust list. I can take it! (And I just might add to mine, haha!)

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

What I Wore Wednesday, Vol. 8: Metallic Bronze Lids and Matte Beet Red Lips

April 12th, 2017 by Karen 16 Comments

Some might say that metallic bronze lids and beet red matte lips is a little too glam for hanging out with a toddler at home, but I went with it. 🙂

I got the inspiration for this look from one of my favorite makeup artists on Instagram, Katie Jane Hughes.

Tom Ford 2017 Summer Soleil Collection Bronzing Gel

March 17th, 2017 by Karen 7 Comments

tom ford bronzing gel
Tom Ford Bronzing Gel, $48, from the 2017 Soleil Summer Collection

I’m brown, so I kinda thought that bronzing gel would be not all that incredibly useful for me, but you know…Tom Ford. He sucks you in. I pretty much love everything he’s ever done. That damned subtle elegance of his gets me, and everything I’ve tried from the 2017 Soleil Summer Collection has been rocking my booty shorts off, including this $48 Bronzing Gel.

Yes, it’s nauseatingly expensive, but by Tom Ford standards, $48 is borderline reasonable.

Sort of?

It’s a lightweight golden bronze gel you can use on your face and body (I just use it on my face though). I apply it with my fingertips and blend it in wherever I would normally apply bronzer, like on my cheeks, across my nose and around the edge of my face. I use it in place of bronzer sometimes.

It gives my NC42 skin a subtle, buttery warmth and a bronzed golden pearly glow.

Me likey!

I know I keep referring to the pieces in this collection as things that give you “vacation skin,” partly because I’ve got vacations on the brain, but I really do think that that’s what this does — gives you vacation skin.

When I wear it, I look like I just woke up from a long nap on the world’s most comfortable hammock on the world’s most amazing beach.

Ah… It makes my skin a dewy, toasty golden brown. It’s a subtle effect, but I like it. I need it, too, after what has felt like THE LONGEST WINTER EVER.

If it happened to you…

Filed under, “Weird Things That You Think Only Happen to You and When You Find Out That They Also Happen to Other People You’re Relieved.”

Yes, it’s a very wide filing cabinet. 🙂

I was talking to a girl last night at the gym about laundry, of all things, and she started telling me this story about how she put on a pair of clean skinny jeans that she washed the night before but didn’t realize until lunchtime at work the next day that there was a weird lump in her calf area.

When she went to the bathroom to check it out, she found a pair of underwear that had gotten stuck in her jeans all through the wash.

I said, “WHAT?! That happened to me too! The same exact thing!”

It was a gray pair of Citizens skinny jeans, and I didn’t realize until I was halfway through lunch at The Cheesecake Factory that I had a big lump of underwear in the back of my thigh…

Oddly, I feel a lot better knowing that I’m not the only person this has happened to.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen
