I’m Celia San Miguel of Sicka Than Average, and This Is My Makeup Life

September 3rd, 2013 by Karen 6 Comments

The charming Celia San Miguel of Sicka Than Average
The My Makeup Life series asks beauty biz insiders, bloggers, makeup mavens and artists to share their holy grail products, tricks, tips and favorite beauty tools. Is there anyone you would like to see featured in My Makeup Life or questions you think I should ask? Let me know here.

Name: Celia San Miguel
Location: New York, NY
Day job/current gig: I’m a freelance writer for a number of magazines (mainly LATINA), and I’m also a social media manager for a leading digital agency in NYC. In addition to that, I’m also an on-air style and beauty expert, working mainly with Telemundo here in NYC.
Hangouts online: sickathanaverage.com, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube
Current favorite product: Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge lip color and Ouidad’s Moisture Lock Leave-in Conditioner
Beauty inspirations: Markets, flappers, can-can dancers, Chinese hibiscus flowers, pink peonies, parakeets, butterflies, Mick Rock’s glam rock photographs, Brazilian samba dancers, punk fashion…. The list is endless!
One word that best describes your outlook on beauty: Exuberant 😉

What makeup/beauty products can’t you live without?

The list of products is endless! Starting with the basics, I can’t live without my Clarisonic Mia 2 for a really deep and thorough cleanse. I’m always testing different facial cleansers, but I tend to come back to the Korres Wild Rose Daily Brightening Cleanser, the Pacifica Sea Foam Complete Face Wash, the Caudalie Instant Foaming Cleanser, and the L’Occitane Immortelle Precious Cleansing Foam. As far as moisturizers and anti-aging products, I like using the Caudalie Vinoperfect Day Perfecting Fluid SPF 15 over the Estée Lauder Idealist Even Skintone Illuminator during the day and, at night, I apply the Clarins Double Serum and then add my nightly moisturizer (either Caudalie’s Premier Cru or L’Occitane’s Immortelle Precious Night Cream). And that’s just skincare!

As a makeup junkie it’s so hard to pick just a handful of products! For the face, I love Tarte Cosmetics’ BB Cream, Make Up For Ever’s Pro Finish Foundation, Hourglass Cosmetics’ Veil Fluid Makeup, Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation, Hourglass Cosmetics’ Ambient Lighting Powder, and NARS’ blushes (Orgasm is still one of my all-time fave shades). For eyes, I swear by Urban Decay’s eye shadow palettes (the Naked 2 palette is so fantastic!) and Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Shadow pencils. And, since I’m all about bright lips, I tend to gravitate to Illamasqua’s lipsticks and Make Up For Ever’s Rouge Artist lipsticks or, for a more liquid, slick look, I’ll use Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Rouge lip colors or OCC Makeup’s Lip Tars.

When did you start getting into makeup?

I think around the time I was five or six! I remember watching my grandma getting ready in the morning, and she had this ritual that seemed so glamorous to me as a wide-eyed little girl. I still remember the facial massages she gave herself while applying her Pond’s Cold Cream and the way she’d blot her lips after smoothing on her favorite shade of lipstick (a wine-ish red from Estée Lauder). It was magic to me.

What’s your best beauty time-saving trick?

A healthy, glowing complexion and a bright lip goes a long way. When in a rush, I’ll typically reach for one of my favorite tinted moisturizers (I adore Hourglass’ Illusion Tinted Moisturizer, NARS’ Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer, and Tarte’s Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer), and then I’ll mix that with a drop of luminizer, like the NARS Illuminator or one of Make Up For Ever’s Uplight shades. When you apply the mixture to your face, you’ll get that nice bit of coverage with an added glow that makes you appear lit from within. Add a nice, creamy lip color in a vibrant shade and you’ll be good to go!

What’s your favorite beauty tool?

I’m currently obsessed with the TRIA Hair Removal Laser. I always suffered from ingrown hairs on my legs and, since I started using the TRIA a year ago, it’s ceased to be a problem (and, of course, there’s less hair growth overall, which cuts down on shaving time). Given how costly in-office laser removal treatments tend to be, this tool is as an absolute lifesaver.

What’s the best beauty advice you ever received?

Hmmmm… So many things come to mind! I think some of the greatest advice I received involved the art of using concealer. For example, to cover a reddish patch or a blemish, you want to use a concealer with a mint-y, light green tint so as to neutralize the redness and then, afterward, dab on a neutral shade that matches your skin tone. Similarly, to cover purplish or blue under-eye circles, you’ll want to reach for an orange-tinged concealer and, again, dab the neutral shade above this one. It’s all about make up color theory and learning which hues neutralize each other, which complement each other, and so forth.

What’s your skincare routine?

Check out the answer to the No. 1 question. 😉

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve tried in the name of beauty?

There were several peels that were a bit scary (to say the least), but I think some of the weirdest things have involved at-home, DIY treatments that I attempted (like coffee scrubs and hair masks with egg yolks and mayonnaise and avocado). I’ve learned over the years that I’m not particularly gifted at whipping up these all-natural beauty remedies and treatments, so I pretty much steer clear, since having to clean up the mess afterwards is never fun.

Do you have a trademark look (hair/styling/makeup)?

Not really! I love to experiment with different looks — it’s part of the fun for me. That being said, I love color, so you’ll usually find me wearing either bright eye colors or vibrant lip hues.

Are there any beauty decisions you’ve made that you look back on and ask yourself, “why?!”

Of course! I wore acrylic nails as a teen and twenty-something and I thought I looked so fly but, really, it was a hot mess! And then, of course there is the plethora of botched hair color experiments, which include a jet black color that left me looking like Wednesday Adams and a bright, orange-tinged red that was Carrot Top all the way.

Where are your favorite places to shop?

I love Sephora, of course, as well as Ulta, but I also love going into drugstores and roaming along their beauty aisles — whether it’s Duane Reade, CVS, or Walgreens.

Anything else you want to share?

For one, I own over 50 perfumes, and I wear them all since I firmly believe in switching up scents depending on your mood, your outfit, and your destination. What else? I have tiny feet, so even my 11-year-old stepdaughter wears a larger shoe size than me (it’s kind of embarrassing). Oh, and you’ll never catch me without earrings on — I even wear tiny studs when I sleep! What other random factoid can I give you? Oh yeah: some kids used to call me Punky Brewster as a kid, which I secretly loved since I always thought she was so scrappy and funky. Oh, and I used to have the hugest crush on Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest when I was a teeny bopper, and I still get hype every time “Scenario” comes on!

I’m Xiao Lim of Messy Wands, and This Is My Makeup Life

The gorgeous Xiao Lim from Messy Wands!
The My Makeup Life series asks beauty biz insiders, bloggers, makeup mavens and artists to share their holy grail products, tricks, tips and favorite beauty tools. Is there anyone you would like to see featured in My Makeup Life or questions you think I should ask? Let me know here.

Name: Xiao Lim
Location: New York, NY
Day job/current gig: I work in the marketing division of a start-up company.

Hangouts online: messywands.com, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Google+
Current favorite product: RMS Luminizer (one-stop highlighter for all skin tones)
Beauty inspirations: Keira Knightley, Tao Okamoto, Michelle Williams in that recent Louis Vuitton ad, and Gong Li
One word that best describes your outlook on beauty: Experimental

What makeup/beauty products can’t you live without?

My Shu Uemura retractable brow pencil in Seal Brown. It’s not available in the United States anymore, so I have to buy it in bulk when I visit home (Malaysia).

When did you start getting into makeup?

I was 18 years old when I *really* stepped into a MAC store for the first time…

What’s your best beauty time-saving trick?

Use fingers. You can blend out eyeshadow in the crease with your fingers if you want it badly enough!

What’s your favorite beauty tool?

Oh, dear. I suppose if my apartment were burning and I could only save one thing I’d say my brushes (it took years of shopping on different continents to amass my current lineup), but skincare is more essential to me.

What’s the best beauty advice you ever received?

My mom told me not to put on so much makeup. I still disagree with her when I want to have fun with my face, but I try to remember that behind her gentle admonishment is a reminder that I should take good care of my skin so it’ll last me through, oh, forever hopefully.

What’s your skincare routine?

In order: Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist, Ole Henriksen Truth Serum, Tatcha Ageless Revitalizing Eye Cream, then it’s a choice between Rodin Olio Lusso Luxury Face Oil, Tatcha Ageless Enriched Renewal Cream, Tatcha Camellia Beauty Oil, or Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve tried in the name of beauty?

I racked my brain and couldn’t think of anything that’s truly out of this world. I’ve actually managed to enjoy facial extractions?

Do you have a trademark look (hair/styling/makeup)?

Arianne of The Glitter Geek fame coined my trademark blog photo pose as “deer in headlights,” which is pretty accurate. As for makeup, I go from no-makeup makeup to full on 1920s excess in the space of a single post.

“Deer in headlights”

Are there any beauty decisions you’ve made that you look back on and ask yourself, “why?!”

My batwing eyebrow phase, though that’s less a “decision” than an unfortunate (and unfortunately well documented) period of my life when I just didn’t have good eyebrow drawing technique.

Batwing eyebrows

Where are your favorite places to shop?

I love Nordstrom.com and Sephora.com for their great testing (otherwise known as return) policies. I try not to return products unless I absolutely have to, but the ease of shopping through those two places is the reason why I’m increasingly relying on e-shopping. As for clothes and shoes, Shopbop.com and Zappos.com have similar policies!

Anything else you want to share?

Puppies are adorable, too!

I’m Laurie Leopold of 312 Beauty, and This Is My Makeup Life

August 14th, 2013 by Karen 20 Comments

The lovely Laurie Leopold of 312 Beauty
The My Makeup Life series asks beauty biz insiders, bloggers, makeup mavens and artists to share their holy grail products, tricks, tips and favorite beauty tools. Is there anyone you would like to see featured in My Makeup Life or questions you think I should ask? Let me know here.

Name: Laurie Leopold
Location: Chicago, IL
Day job/current gig: I work in public relations as an account supervisor for an agency in Chicago.
Hangouts online: 312beauty.com,Twitter, Facebook, Instagram (guaranteed at least one Boston Terrier picture each week!) and Pinterest
Current favorite product: RMS Beauty Lip Shine in Sacred — the perfect daytime red!
Beauty inspirations: The current J. Crew catalog, Lana Del Ray in Fashion Canada’s summer issue, Jessica Chastain always.
One word that best describes your outlook on beauty: Natural

What makeup/beauty products can’t you live without?

My go-to complexion staples are RMS Beauty “Un” Cover-Up and Living Luminizer. I love Urban Decay neutral eye shadows, especially the new soft gold Easy Baked and NARS Eyeliner Stylo in Capartes. For lips, the ILIA Tinted Lip Conditioners take the cake! And In My Room is the perfect, wear-with-everything neutral.

When did you start getting into makeup?

I started young with an impressive Bonne Bell collection and regularly rode my bike to Walgreens to buy eye shadow starting when I was 13. But it wasn’t until after college that my makeup bag really started overflowing.

What’s your best beauty time-saving trick?

Two products: bronzer and highlighter. A few strategic dabs and sweeps of each, and I can pretty much forgo all other makeup.

What’s your favorite beauty tool?

The Sultra Bombshell has changed my hair game. Before I discovered it, my super-straight hair could never successfully hold a curl. It is unbelievably easy to use — so long as you use the provided glove! Trust me, you only need to make that mistake once.

What’s the best beauty advice you ever received?

Don’t tug or rub your eyes, ever. My sister-in-law shared this with me at 15, and it stuck with me. I credit this nugget for keeping the wrinkles at bay.

What’s your skincare routine?

In a word, extensive. I love my facial oils! I always remove my makeup with an oil-based cleanser. Lately I’ve been using a new cleansing oil from Elizabeth Dehn for One Love Organics that smells like papayas. I layer on my serums and moisturizers in the a.m. and p.m. and use Kahina Giving Beauty Brightening Serum every morning, followed by RMS Beauty Oil or Weleda Wild Rose Facial Lotion and a healthy amount of SPF. When I need more intense moisture, I reach for my La Bella Figura Rainforest Hydration Treatment. It’s a thicker balm, but when you massage it with your fingers it turns into an oil.

It’s heavenly. I save the masking and relaxing for Sundays — lately with Osmia Organics Detox Mask, which also doubles as an exfoliator.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve tried in the name of beauty?

Lip tattoos! Temporary, of course, because I am relatively conservative with anything of a permanent nature (see hair dye sins below). While I totally appreciate these, I don’t think it’s something that looks good on me.

Do you have a trademark look (hair/styling/makeup)?

Most days, I wear a neutral eye. Neutral cream color all over, soft brown in the crease and black liquid liner with lots of lash. It’s my go-to easy natural look.

Are there any beauty decisions you’ve made that you look back on and ask yourself, “why?!”

I’ve made several poor decisions with hair dye. In my teenage years, I bleached my hair to a horrid shade of orange. Not on purpose, of course.

It was bad. And then there was my early 20s where I dyed my hair black. I thought I was so fly at the time, but I just look pale and washed out in all the pictures.

Where are your favorite places to shop?

Nordstrom, Anthropologie and LOFT are my big three. BaubleBar for jewels — to the point where I’ve made multiple orders in a single week — and Spirit Beauty Lounge, Birchbox and Sephora for beauty.

Anything else you want to share?

Yes! One of my newest discoveries has me really jazzed. For years, I’ve been searching for a natural mascara that actually works. After many tubes of smeary, smudgy, flaky and disappointing formulas, I finally found one that rivals nearly all others — natural or otherwise. Kjaer Weis Mascara is not only 99.8% organic, it plumps up my lashes and lasts all day without flaking. Bonus: it smells like roses.

My dog, Betty!

3 Makeup Packing Tips for a Weekend Trip

July 22nd, 2013 by Karen 26 Comments

Reason No. 3,456 why I like to travel? — learning new packing tricks (makeup or otherwise).

It’s like a personal challenge of mine, figuring out new ways to help my makeup bag streamline and be all it can be!

Here’s a few things I tried on this last trip…

1. Ditch the palettes

You can do a lot with as little as two eye shadows — one neutral matte or satin slightly darker than your skin tone, and one flattering metallic or shimmer that you really, really like.

It hit me in La Jolla last weekend. I was getting ready for dinner one night and started thinking about how I got by with just two makeup brushes that time in Redding when I forgot my brush bag at home. I wondered if I could do the same with just two eye shadows…

Turns out I could! For a few days. I wore MAC Soba, a golden brown with a satin finish, and MAC Woodwinked, a warm, shimmery gold, three nights in a row and didn’t feel like I needed another eye shadow.

On my eyes: MAC Eye Shadows in Woodwinked and Soba (lids and lower lash lines), Chanel Le Stylo Yeux Waterproof in Santal (upper and lower water and lash lines), Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant Mascara (lashes) and MAC Veluxe Brow in Deep Dark Brunette (brows)
Wearing MAC Eye Shadows in Woodwinked and Soba on my lids and lower lash lines

On each of the nights, I contoured and added depth to my eye looks with Soba and used Woodwinked for a flash of bling on my lids.

As for options, even though I didn’t wear a smokey eye at all last weekend, I know that I could have banged one out by layering either shadow atop a smudgy black pencil liner. Or, as another option, for something more colorful, I could have lined either my upper or lower lash lines with a bright teal, purple or green pencil liner.

You can cover a lot of looks and bases with two versatile shadows like Soba and Woodwinked. YES.

2. Forgo your foundation brush

To save every precious ounce and square inch in your carry-on bag, you can always use your fingers instead of a brush to apply and blend foundation.

Most of the time.

It depends on the foundation, of course. This doesn’t work well with all foundations, but it works pretty great with MAC Face & Body and Bobbi Brown’s Foundation Stick.

Oh, the sonnets I could sing to MAC Face & Body…

It won’t budge and yet doesn’t look or feel heavy, and it covers everything. Plus, it’s finger friendly. It looks great even when you just apply it with your fingers.

mac face and body foundation application tips

With my fingers, I can really work it into my skin, and the result doesn’t look heavy or unnatural.

Because it doesn’t move or migrate, it’s a great choice for oily or combo skin types, or if you’re en route to someplace hot and humid (and hopefully wonderful).

Bobbi Brown’s Foundation Stick is another fave, especially when I’ll be passing through airports, because it doesn’t take up valuable space in my TSA-approved bag of liquids

My Current Diet and Workout Regimen

July 22nd, 2013 by Karen 19 Comments

In the comments on this Neutrogena post the other day, Rosie (haaay girl, haaay!) asked about my diet and exercise regimen.

So…I’m not an expert in nutrition or a fitness guru by any means, and I repeatedly fall off the wagon myself with my own efforts, especially when I’m swamped or just plan ol’ stress eating, but I still wanted to answer. Maybe one of us will find something here helpful, so here goes. 🙂

My diet

First, it’s not strict, but I do try to eat as healthy as possible because I know that it makes me feel physically and mentally better.

Day to day, I take a pretty measured approach, but I don’t freak out if I fall out of line for a meal. I measure out my portion sizes, count calories and try not to go cray-cray with sweets (baked goods and ice cream are big weaknesses of mine).

If/when I do have a cheat meal…cheat day or cheat week (!), I do my best not to beat myself up about it, and try to make it up over the next few days by being a little more careful.

Oh, hai! You’re my cheat meal!

To count calories (I know that sounds scary, but I do it because it works for me), I use an iPhone app called MyFitnessPal, which makes it easy to track what goes in, what I burn, and how I’m progressing along the way. It’s easy to use, and seeing the numbers right there in all their cold, uncompromising glory helps keep me honest and motivated.

As for food, I’m not a big red meat or chicken eater. I don’t have any issues with meat, but I prefer the taste of seafood and vegetable dishes (and they’re often lower in calories than meaty foods). On average, about two thirds of my meals are vegetarian, and the other third is pescatarian (something with seafood).

Lemon basil fusilli — yummy, quick and vegetarian

I don’t think I’m very creative in the kitchen, and I rely on certain staple dishes over and over again, like oatmeal and coffee/tea in the morning, a salad or a wrap for lunch, and some kind of seafood dish for dinner.

I like low fat, healthy, easy dishes that come together quickly, and I’ve gotten a ton of great ideas from Skinny Taste, and Women’s Health and Fitness magazine’s online recipe finder.

A few things about certain kinds of foods…

Dairy. My diet definitely affects my skin, and I’ve found that by scaling back on dairy, my skin’s improved.

I did it with baby steps, like by replacing dairy milk in my coffee with almond milk, and by cutting back on yogurt and cottage cheese, which I was pretty much eating daily for protein (and because they’re delicious).

If you’re thinking about trying soy, rice or almond milk, I’m pulling for almond. At least to me, it doesn’t have the aftertaste that soy milk has, and it pretty much goes with everything. I like Trader Joe’s Almond Smooth Vanilla Almond Milk ($1.69 for a 32-ounce box). It has the consistency of cow’s milk and isn’t overly sweet. It’s also hella yummy in smoothies, cereal and pudding.

Trader Joe’s Almond Smooth Vanilla Almond Milk

I haven’t been able to completely quit dairy, though, because I just lurves me my cheeses and ice cream (and eggs, which I know aren’t dairy, but still). 🙂

Mmm… Ice cream.

I still partake, but I try to moderate.

Fruits and veggies. I eat pounds of fruits and vegetables throughout the week. I’m like a fruit bat! Seriously, like crazy bunny food amounts.

I feel like when I don’t for a few days in a row, I start to feel a little off, and I start getting breakouts. Oh, and this is TMI for sure, but the fiber, you know, also keeps my plumbing, you know…working.

Purple cauliflower with capers

3 Makeup Packing Tips To Fit More Fun in Your Life

July 19th, 2013 by Karen 17 Comments

Dr. Bronner's All-One Magic Soap

I can always count on one thing when I travel. I’m definitely going to learn something new — meet new people, try new foods, figure out new ways to squeeze even more makeup in my carry-on bag.

After all, necessity is the mother of invention. 🙂

Here are three travel makeup tips I’ve picked up along the way.

1. Slice it up! (I’ll take it.)

Dr. Bronner's All-One Magic Soap
Dr. Bronner’s All-One Magic Soap is also a great brush cleanser

If there are any bars of soap/moisturizer/other products you use every day, cut off a small piece to pack in your bag. That way you don’t have to bring the whole thing.

Honestly, I can’t believe this one only occurred to me a few days ago! It hit me while I was looking at my bar of Dr. Bronner’s All-One Soap, which I use every night to clean my makeup brushes.

I was thinking, “I don’t want to bring this whole thing…” So I sliced a small wedge off the end.

BAM! Instant travel size.

2. Brush up on your streamlining

Two Brush Makeup Tutorial
I used just two makeup brushes for this look

I am totally guilty of overpacking brushes. I always like to be over-prepared instead of underprepared, and they’re just so small that I figure they can’t weigh a lot or take up much room. Might as well bring more.

It’s true. Two or three of them don’t take up much room, but 10?

Yeah, they start to add up…

But it turns out you really don’t need that many makeup brushes when you travel.

Last May El Hub and I drove up to Redding, a town about four hours north of the Bay Area, to visit family, and I didn’t realize until we got there that I’d forgotten all of my brushes back home!

For more travel makeup tips, don’t miss 3 Lessons Learned About Travel: Perfecting the Art of Packing.

I stopped by a MAC counter and picked up two emergency brushes, and they worked out perfectly the whole trip.

For this trip down to San Diego, I sort of compromised… Less than 10 brushes but more than two (baby steps!). I brought 1) a Burberry Angled Brush, 2) a MAC 217 Blending Brush, 3) a MAC 239 Eye Shader Brush, 4) a MAC 224 Tapered Blending Brush, 5) a MAC 188 Small Duo Fibre Face Brush and 6) a MAC 109 Small Contour Brush.

How to Take a Good Selfie

July 16th, 2013 by Karen 29 Comments

How to Take a Good Selfie: Tips and Tricks!
How to Take a Good Selfie

Maybe I’m an everyday voyeur, because I sure do enjoy seeing pics of people go about their business on Instagram (here’s me).

It’s interesting! Even the boring stuff, because it’s happening all over the world. Breakfast in Hong Kong, lunch in Toronto, drinks in New York. Every day I get to visit with people’s pets, accompany them on vacation, and indulge in cheat meals (without the calories, whee!). 🙂

I also get a kick out of seeing so many self-portraits, or selfies. Makes me feel like I’m right then and there.

As someone who’s taken her share of blurry selfies, I can tell you that a sharp, cool self-portrait isn’t always as easy as point and click, especially in bad lighting. You’d think it would be pretty simple, right? Just smile, point and click.

In a moving car with a camera phone? Uh, not exactly.

But we have tips! Here are some things you can do to take a fantastic selfie.

Double-check your hair and makeup

How to take a good selfie

Before you actually take your selfie, hold your camera right out in front of your face, straight on, and snap a quick test shot of your hair and makeup.

I do this all the time, not just for selfies, but whenever I finish my makeup. Even better than a mirror, seeing a picture helps me tell if my brows, liner, blush and eyeshadow are even. A test shot can help you target areas that need fixing.

While you’re at it, glance at your clothes to make sure your bra straps aren’t peeking out or your collar’s wonky.

Choose a clear background

How to take a good selfie

I remember reading an Us Weekly article at the salon a while back (my guilty pleasure!) about Tori Spelling’s husband posting a pic on Twitter with Tori’s naked breast in the background.

Not that you’re going to have boobs hanging out behind you in your selfie, but there’s a lesson here. Always check your background before you post pics.

Look for solid colors, like walls, to stand in front of, and de-clutter. Move laundry baskets and messy piles of books — anything you don’t want the world to see. For serious! I can’t tell you how many cute selfies I’ve seen with bras hanging in the background.

I try to find a nearby wall or textured curtains. Generally, the less cluttered your background, the better.

Don’t move a muscle

How to take a good selfie

Do your iPhone pics always look blurry? It’s usually caused by camera shake, which happens when you tap the shutter button while the phone is moving. Even the slightest shake or wiggle can produce a blurry pic, especially in dim light.

Hold your phone as steady as possible. Here’s a trick I borrowed from sharp shooters…

Right before I press the shutter, I take a breathe, exhale and hold for a couple seconds. Very still. Then I tap the button.

Find your light

Primp Under Pressure: Beauty Products to Take the Stress Out of Getting Ready

April 12th, 2013 by Karen 35 Comments

Keep calm and carry on…

The products in this entry were provided by the manufacturer for consideration. For information about my posting policy, please see my Disclaimer.

I could spend days — literally DAYS! — listing all of my stressors.

In fact, just thinking about the length of the list is totally stressing me out.

Right off the top of my head, there’s…

  • April 15. Also known as tax day ’round these parts. This year will go down in history for me as the year of the Great Excel Spreadsheet Meltdown. And no, not great because it was awesome. It was bad, and all thanks to one accidental click. Forehead, meet desk. Repeat.
  • Deadlines. They’re always looming, like dark, angry clouds… Yeah, it’s hard to put a good spin on the concept of deadlines. You know it. I know it. In general, they suck.

I’m sure you have your share of stressors, too. Finals, work projects, important things that absolutely must get done, lest you feel the wrath of your boss/co-workers/partner/children/demanding diva cat, and everything whittles away at your beauty time.

One word: argh.

It’s time to take some of those 24 hours back. By equipping yourself with more makeup and beauty products that multitask, you can get more done in less time.

Here are a few products to help you primp under pressure…

Clairol Nice ‘N Easy Root Touch-Up ($6.99)

Clairol Nice N’ Easy Root Touch-Up ($6.99)

I don’t know about you, but when I go to get my hair colored at the salon, it can turn into a half-day affair.

Well, when you just can’t stand staring at your roots in the mirror any longer (been there, done that!), an at-home coloring kit like Clairol’s Nice ‘N Easy Root Touch-Up ($6.99) can help, especially if you can’t/don’t want to spend hours in a salon. This one comes in 14-shades, so chances are there’s one for you.

COVERGIRL Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation ($9.35)

COVERGIRL Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation ($9.35)
COVERGIRL Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation ($9.35)

I’m not one to shy away from multi-step makeup, but sometimes, I simply have to. If time doesn’t permit my regular primer, foundation and concealer, multitasking makeup like COVERGIRL’s $9.35 Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation saves the day.

A liquid formula combining primer, foundation and concealer in a single bottle, it shaves minutes off my beauty routine (I wear it in Golden Tan).

Oh, it lasts a long time, too, so your makeup will go the distance for you.

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog! My name is Karen, and I’m a freelance writer obsessed with makeup.

Makeup and Beauty Blog features daily product reviews, makeup tips and beauty news — like an interactive version of a monthly print magazine, except with occasional pictures of my cat.
