Cargo’s Sheer Peach Sunset Blvd. Lip Gloss: Hollywood Glamour the Cargo Way

July 19th, 2013 by Karen 8 Comments

Cargo Sunset Blvd. Lip Gloss

Cargo Sunset Blvd. Lip Gloss

My friend Jen and I used to perform in a lot of musicals together back in the day (West Side Story, Damn Yankees and Chorus Line), and sometimes we also went to shows.

One of the shows we went to was a little something called Sunset Boulevard — just like this gloss.

(About the play, I don’t remember much from it other than being really hungry the entire time and almost falling asleep, LOL!)

Cargo’s Sunset Blvd. is a sheer peach similar to the other Cargo glosses I’ve tried. It’s non-sticky, feels like a Glossimer to me, is somewhat drying and lasts from 3-4 hours.

I do like it with smokey eyes…

It’s $14, and you can find it now at Ulta stores and online.

Do you have much experience with Cargo’s glosses? Which ones have you tried?

Dior Addict Lip Gloss in Venus: This Venus Is Completely Habitable

July 18th, 2013 by Karen 18 Comments

Dior Venus Addict Lip Gloss

Dior Venus Addict Lip Gloss

Oh, hello, Venus!

Pale, shimmery pink Venus is one of 24 shades in the recently revamped Dior Addict Gloss line, which debuted last spring.

I like how sheer, sparkly and easy it is to wear.

And, oh — that shine? Off the hook!

It’s pretty pricy at $29.50, but I do feel fancy when I bust the tube outta my purse. 🙂

It’s available now online and at Dior counters and Sephora.

I’d Knock on Wood AND Cross My Fingers for the Chanel Superstition Collection

Chanel Mystere Quad, $59
The Chanel Mystere Quad… ($59)

Are you superstitious?

I am…especially when a new fall Chanel Superstition collection comes around.

These are just a few pieces of prettiness from the collection, which is available now at Chanel counters and online.

I know it’s a little weird to be talking about fall in July, but I’m seriously feeling the urge to wear a smokey eye…

Wait — is that how it goes? 🙂

How to Model a Bold Bib Necklace (Masterclass Taught by Tabs the Cat)

July 15th, 2013 by Karen 11 Comments

My employer’s latest obsession? A bib necklace by designer Pam Hiran from Anthropologie.

Tabs was thrilled to find it on sale for $39.95 (marked down from $58).

You know Tabs! He loves a good deal.

He generally prefers to wear jewelry in the nude with little else, but I like to wear this particular piece with a plain white t-shirt and skinny jeans. 🙂

Gotta love Anthropologie.

My, what Fantastical Plumage you have…

And your style, it’s so…Retro Glam. 🙂

Two new Milani nail polish collections arrive next month, and they’re called — wait for it — Fantastical Plumage and Retro Glam.

Um…how fun are these shades!? They’re making me hungry for candy. I almost want to nibble on my nails.

The polishes, about $5 each, will start appearing on nails, in stores and online this August.

Peep the pics and swatches below, and let me know what you think.

The brights are definitely eye-catching, but I’m really feelin’ the mint green shades and glitter top coats…

Five of the six MAC By Request lipstick nominees

Have you already cast a vote for the next MAC By Request? If you haven’t, here are lip swatches of five of the six lipstick nominees from this year’s batch.

I don’t have the sixth one, Tomango, available to swatch, but I posted a PR pic down there at the bottom to give you an idea of the shade.

Don’t forget to cast your vote on MAC’s Facebook page for your fave colors, and tweet your top picks on twitter using hashtag #MACBYREQUEST.

I think I’m leaning toward Rozz…

DAILY BEAUTY: 3-Wick Candles From Bath and Body Works, On Sale Now

July 9th, 2013 by Karen 21 Comments

The Boathouse Row and Lakeside 3-Wick Candles by Bath and Body Works

Last weekend I wandered into a Bath and Body Works just look around (yeah, right!) and wandered out with a few candles that were on deep discount.

These 3-wick candles were originally $20 apiece, but I snagged ’em on sale for $9 each (they’re also on sale for $12 online now, if you don’t live close to one of the stores).

Oh, the scent… Just. Like. Summer. 🙂

Lakeside’s official fragrance story: “Like the water after a cannonball, jump into an invigorating blend of fresh water, sheer musk and the perfect pop of lemon zest.”

Um, ok. I think I will.

I love the pic of the girls jumping into the water. Isn’t that cute?

Now, I’ve never stepped foot in a boathouse before, and I’ve never rowed, but if either one smells like Boathouse Row, heck, I’m doing both at least once.

Boathouse Row official fragrance notes: “Notes of moss, green sage and bay leaves capture the essence of a cool retreat in the shade with deep, blue water on the horizon.”

I got two extras to give as hostess gifts. Bath and Body Works will even wrap your candles and tie them with a pretty bow for free. 🙂

And they’re practical, too. Each 3-wick candle will burn from 30-45 hours.
