Drugstore Foundation Review, Maybelline Pure Makeup

December 13th, 2007 by Karen 20 Comments

I lurves my Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer, but truth be told my cheap ass hates having to pay $42.00 for it. There’s got to be a decent drugstore foundation out there that doesn’t cause break-outs. Could the answer be Maybelline’s Pure Makeup foundation?

maybelline-pure-makeup-foundation

The hook behind Maybelline’s Pure Makeup foundation is that instead of it being filled with pore-clogging oils it’s made with water — 50 percent water — allegedly making it better for gals with acne-prone skin like moi.

This oil-free liquid foundation comes in 12 shades, and I’ve tested two of them, honey beige and medium beige. I was really hoping Maybelline Pure Makeup would rock my world because it’s so damn cheap (six bucks, hello!), but I have mixed feelings about it despite its many positives.

Big hearts for:
– Price; a 30ml sized tube for $6.00
– Light-to-medium coverage
– Doesn’t cause me to break out
– Easy to apply and blend
– Texture; it’s more like a tinted moisturizer than a runny liquid foundation
– Tube is travel friendly and hygienic (no dipping of the fingers into a nasty jar)
– Easy to find; I’ve seen it in all the drugstores in my ‘hood including Walgreen’s, Long’s and Rite Aid
– Natural-looking matte finish

I bought the honey beige shade when I still had a tan a few months ago, and it looked good on me despite being a touch too pink. Medium beige has a slightly lighter color, and like the honey beige is just a little too pink on me as well. I’ve always had an issue with foundation color matching though (overly pink shades can look ashy, and overly-yellow shades make me look ill) so this problem isn’t anything new. But the color isn’t the biggest issue for me when it comes to this product. It’s the fact that after a few hours this foundation streaks like a mo’ fo. I’ll put it on evenly in the morning, set it with powder, but by the end of the day I can see the product on my skin in little patches. Big, fat HELL_TO_THE_NO.

However, I don’t think you should dismiss it immediately because it streaked on my skin; I’ve read that it doesn’t happen to everyone, so it might not be an issue for you. Pure Makeup didn’t aggravate my skin at all and is very budget friendly – both huge plusses. If you’ve got acne or sensitive skin issues then check it out, and if you don’t like it you can always return it if you keep your receipt. 🙂

You might heart it if:
– You have acne-prone, sensitive skin
– You need light-to-medium coverage
– You like foundations with pink tones
– You are on a budget
– You use primer underneath your foundation

Do you have a favorite drugstore foundation that you can’t live without? What do you think I should try next?

5 Makeup and Beauty Tips from Paris Hilton

November 18th, 2007 by Karen 86 Comments

Tip #1: Wear a scent that means something to you.

For some people, scent is highly tied to memory, like how a whiff of men’s Eternity can bring back memories of one’s lame ex-boyfriend (I’m not bitter).

I used to sneak a spritz or two of my mom’s Chanel No. 5 when I was a wee child. For Paris, the fragrances of Jean Patou hold a special place in her heart.

The first perfume she ever wore was Jean Patou’s 1000 because her mom wore it when Paris was young. Jean Patou’s Joy was another one. “It just smells like my grandma,” said Paris. “She always used to wear it. She passed away from breast cancer a few years ago, so it kind of reminds me of her when I wear it.”

Paris signs a pic for a fan at the CAN CAN release event held at Macy’s Valley Fair in Santa Clara, California on November 17, 2007

paris-hilton-with-fan-can-can-valley-fair-santa-clara-macys

Just as fragrance can influence how we feel, it also affects how people remember us. That’s why Paris decided to make perfumes. “I wanted to do a fragrance because I feel like it’s such a big part of life.”

CAN CAN was really personal for her. She enlisted the help of friends and family in making it. Step one was to create a batch of sample fragrances with the help of a perfumer — one of those professional smell expert gurus — based on some of her favorite scents. With her three or four favorites in tow, she went home to do a little good ole’ fashioned market research. “I’ll have them smell,” said Paris of her friends and family, “and see what they like best.” With their input, she chose the fragrance she thought would appeal to the widest audience. The result was CAN CAN, a fruity floral with notes of clementine flower, cassis, nectarine, musk and amber.

This is the fourth fragrance campaign for Paris, who also did campaigns for her other perfumes: Heiress, Just Me and Paris Hilton. CAN CAN is the fourth campaign but the first with a distinct theme. She called it the best of the photo shoots she’s done for a fragrance so far. She danced and posed on a Moulin Rouge themed set while her self-titled debut album, Paris, played in the background. “We’ve always done really beautiful shots,” she said, “but not really a theme, so it was really fun.”

Paris is often reminded of how her fragrances can influence every day life. Dudes and chicks stop her on the street to tell her that they’re wearing her stuff. “I always go and smell them,” she said. I wore CAN CAN on the day I did this interview, so from now on every time I catch a whiff of it I’ll remember that day. I almost shoved my wrist up her nose at one point but thought it faux pas.

Thousands of rabid fans showed up to the event. Apparently it pays to be tall when you’re jostling other Paris fans for camera phone pics.

paris-hilton-fans-cameras-can-can-valley-fair-mall

Tip #2: Rock the lipgloss.

CHANEL Glossimer lipgloss, YES!

Paris was rocking a fierce look in our interview. She was wearing a sleeveless cream top and black skirt by BCBG and hot pink Christian Dior shoes. Ladies and gents, you know how your girl loves the shoes. I briefly thought about stopping the interview to have my photographer (El Hub) take shots of Paris’ fantabulous footwear, but alas, I only had six minutes to get through all my questions. So sorry, fellow shoe lovers!

Paris-hilton-interview-can-can-valley-fair-santa-clara-macys-close-up

For her makeup, Paris wore a silver, sparkly eye with thick black liner on the top lid along with a soft flushed cheek. She had on MAC shadow and Max Factor blush. The focal point of her look was a pink lip topped with a layer of Chanel Glossimer lipgloss in Astral #104. “I love the glitter in it,” she said.

For the past few weeks I’ve been trying to motivate myself to do stuff by using Chanel makeup as a self-motivator — i.e. Karen does ‘X’ tasks and gets two tubes of Chanel lipgloss — but after seeing Paris wearing Glossimer, I’m afraid I’m going to cave, like, really soon. Perhaps tomorrow, even. Girlfriend’s lips looked *super hot*.

MAC Prrr Lipglass, YES!

When Paris is working, she spends a lot of time in hair and makeup with her stylists and makeup artists, so on her days off she doesn’t like to wear a lot of makeup. She does love her gloss, though, and can’t live without MAC Prrr Lipglass. “When I’m just like, chilling,” she said, “I’d rather just put on mascara, and like, really cute lipgloss.”

Maybelline Great Lash, NOOOO!

And what is Paris’ mascara of choice on her days off? Maybelline Great Lash, the one from Rite-Aid in the pink and green tube.

I thought, “Are you serious, girlfriend?” I would’ve put my money on Paris being a Diorshow kind of girl. I had some Plushlash in my purse, and I thought about giving it to her as a gesture of goodwill mascara salvation. Paris, girrrrrrl, if you’re reading this, I’m gonna hook you up with some Plushlash, STAT!

Tip #3: Get the glowy look with weekly facials and Kate Somerville products.

Paris is known for her dewy, glowy skin. She said her secret is a weekly facial at Kate Somerville, a spa located down the street from her house. She and Kate are homies, and Paris gets treatments with extractions at the spa when she isn’t too busy with work.

Extractions? I cringed.

I wish you could see Paris’ Christian Dior shoes in this pic. They were *awesome.*

karen-interviewing-paris-hilton-can-can-fragrance-macys-valley-fair-san-jose-1

“You know,” she said, “it’s good for you. Everyone should do it. And like Lasergenesis, which makes your skin really, like, plump … it’s just this light that goes on your face.”

Kate Somerville offers a full skin care line, and Hilton is an avid devotee. “I use all Kate’s products,” she said. She can’t live without Nourish moisturizer and Exfolikate (formerly known as Kate in a Jar) exfoliating treatment. On the day of our interview, beside the sparkly eye and lip, Paris’ skin actually had very little shine. It was a very matte skin look, which is really trendy right now.

“I just think it’s good to just take care of yourself and get massages and drink water,” she added.

Tip #4: Planning ahead never hurts, especially when it comes to skin care or the quest for beauty-product world domination.

Paris’ quest for world domination doesn’t stop at the fragrance counter. She is currently working on a makeup line and would also love to create skin care products. Her take home message for skin care: start young! I hear ya, girl. Like I always say, the best anti-aging secret is sunscreen (and don’t forget your neck, oy!).

Tip #5: Be polite and sweet to everyone.

Although I never really watched Paris’ show, “The Simple Life,” I’ve read a lot about her in the news, and truth be told I didn’t know what to expect from this interview. Would she roll her eyes because I wasn’t from Newsweek or the New York Times? Girlfriend did say she didn’t use the Web too much, and she’d never heard of beauty blogs before. Would she spend the entire time text-messaging Nicole on her massive jewel-encrusted smartphone?

To my surprise, she was nice. Although she seemed a bit guarded and heavily media trained, she was sweet and fully engaged throughout the conversation. The moral of this story? Despite all of the drama surrounding Paris in the news, I found her to be a sweet girl who works hard and loves her family.

Three Ways to Sparkle this Holiday Season

November 13th, 2007 by Karen 23 Comments

I wish I could get all of my closest friends diamonds for Christmas — they really are a girl’s best friend — but unfortunately I have yet to acquire vast riches and treasure chests of gold.

While makeup may not exactly be equivalent to a platinum pave friendship bracelet, there are several products out this holiday season that have just as much sparkle and shine. Here are three great choices for the best friend who is always there for you.

Make Up For Ever Professional’s Diamonds For Ever Kit

make-up-forever-ever-professional-diamonds

Sparkle, shine, drama: Make Up For Ever’s limited edition Diamonds For Ever Kit is not only beautiful but also multi-functional!

Every piece in the kit is geared toward creating a look infused with diamonds, and you can use pieces in the kit together or separately to create different looks.

The kit is just $49.00, but you get $110 worth of Make Up For Ever goodies including:

– Aqua Eyes Water Proof Eye Pencil 1L in Star Black
– Diamond Shadow 301 in Diamond White
– Diamond Powder 11 (a loose shimmer powder) in Champagne
– Fascinating Lip Gloss 1 in Pearly Transparent
– Waterproof Lengthening Mascara in 1 Black
– and a cute black vanity tote with a built in mirror and velcro closure to hold all of the goodies!

I know a few weeks ago I was ranting on and on about my glitter issues ,but the Diamonds For Ever set has officially made me one with the glitter.

mariah-carey-glitter-final

I played around with the kit this weekend and totally fell for the Aqua Eyes Water Proof Eye Pencil, Diamond Shadow and Waterproof Lengthening Mascara. The Aqua Eyes is *the* standout product. It doesn’t tug at my lids and is super easy to apply. Once you get it on your eyes, it stays put all day. It performs similarly to MAC Technakohl, so if you are a MAC Technakohl fan then you might want to give Aqua Eyes a try. Methinks I love it even more than my Graphblack!

Here’s a fotd with all the products, along with MAC Dollymix blush on the cheeks and a layer of MAC Composure lipstick underneath a layer of Fascinating lip gloss:

Pick this set up for your glitter-lurvin’ best girl.

Givenchy Irresisistible Perfume: For the Girly-girl

givenchy-very-irresistible-perfume

I’ve been reviewing a lot of boyfriend-inspired perfumes lately like Covet, so I wanted to find a holiday perfume that would suit the other end of the perfume spectrum.

Feminine, floral, sparkly: Givenchy’s Very Irresistible is unmistakably girly.

(Oh, and in case you are wondering, I did give the new Armani “Diamonds” perfume — an obvious tie-in to this post — a sniff. I liked it but wanted to find something that was super-fem with strong rose notes.)

On me, Very Irresistible smells like a lovely bouquet of roses with hints of fresh, sparkling green notes — think emerald cut diamonds and fresh cut flower stems!

The scent notes include: Centrifolia Rose, Peony Rose, Fantasia Rose, Passion Rose, Emotion Rose, Verbena Leaf and Star Anise. In addition to being an uber-feminine scent, it’s also versatile, and perfect for both a work day and a date night.

Give your best girl the 2.4 Eau du Toilette spray ($69.00). The graceful pink bottle is huge, and like a diamond, will last forever.

Random fragrance fun fact: Givenchy recently celebrated their 50 year fragrance anniversary this year. Givenchy’s first fragrances were Le De and L’Interdit, and Audrey Hepburn (my style hero) posed for the advertising campaign, becoming the first celebrity to be associated with a fragrance launch.

Olay Definity Eye Illuminator, For Your Make Up Wearing Gym Buddy

olay-definity-eye-illuminator

What the heck does eye cream have to do with sparkly diamonds? Hear me out, ya’ll!

There’s been constant discussion on this blog about wearing makeup at the gym. If you are one of the lucky few who can brave the gym sans makeup, then props to you for being such a natural beauty! I wish I could get away with no makeup, but I’ve got to put at least some concealer under my eyes, otherwise I look like the living dead. It’s so not cute, especially when you’re watching yourself do bicep curls.

And lately my dark circles have been really bad. To remedy this pressing and slightly stressful issue I’ve been layering Make Up For Ever Lift Concealer on top of Olay Definity, an under eye treatment that helps to lessen darkness and shadows. And wowee wow wow!

I put a few small drops underneath my eyes and then layer concealer on top. It gives the tiniest amount of shimmer, and it makes my under eye area look brighter.

It’s a really subtle brightening effect, so don’t expect your dark circles to disappear in a magical poof of smoke. It’s an eye cream, not a Christmas miracle. However, if you’re uber-conscious like me about your dark circles, then you might find the extra step worth it.

Got a best friend who’s always working on her fitness and/or bemoaning her dark circles? Pop a tube of Olay Definity Eye Illuminator (about $22.00) in her stocking.

Enjoy this wonderfully sunny day, ya’ll!

Product Reviews, Skincare, Drugstore Beauty Finds: Clinique Moisture On-Line; Dove Cream Oil Body Wash in Ultra Rich

November 8th, 2007 by Karen 12 Comments

The Battle Against Dry Skin Continues!

You know that Gnarls Barkley song, Crazy (“I think we’re crazaaaay”)? God I hate that song. However, I can’t help but sing it to myself whenever I look for moisturizers in the wintertime, because when the temperature drops I feel like “My skin’s going crazaaaay!”

Don’t fret; there’s hope for the scaly-skinned. Here are two choice products which I’ve found recently that fight the good fight against dryness: Clinique Moisture On-line for my face and Dove Ultra Rich Creamy Oil Body Wash for my body.

I’ve been on a Clinique skin care kick lately, which is kind of odd because I’ve never been a 3-step kinda girl. But certain products within the line really deliver, like Moisture On-line face moisturizer.

clinique-moisture-on-line

I have combo, pimple-prone skin. I use benzoyl peroxide for my acne, and although it really works for me it dries my face out, especially around the mouth area. I *always* have to layer a moisturizer on top of the BP.

For the last week I’ve been putting on a layer of Moisture On-line after applying benzoyl peroxide and it has really helped relieve the dryness. I was afraid at first that it would break me out because most heavy moisturizing creams do, but I haven’t had any pimples so far. In fact, my skin has been clearing up nicely since the introduction of this along with the Clinique’s Mild Clarifying Lotion into my skincare routine.

It has a clean, slightly medicinal smell that I like. I wish it wasn’t in a jar, but whatevs, it works and that’s all I really care about.

In a weird twist of irony, I had some trouble finding this at the Clinique counter and at Sephora. Looks like I’ll have to be ordering Moisture On-line, well, on-line.

You might like this if you have combo, pimple-prone skin. If you’re younger and oilier this might be too heavy for you so you might check out H20+ Face Oasis, which is a slightly lighter gel moisturizer that is still very hydrating.

A 1.7 oz fl jar of Moisture On-line is $36.00.

My legs get really dry in the winter, so I need to switch to a more hydrating body wash. Dove’s Cream Oil Body Wash was a random drugstore product I picked up last week and woo hoo, I love it!

dove-cream-oil-body-wash

This thick body wash lathers well and gets me squeaky clean. Even though it says it’s a cream oil wash, it rinses off thoroughly and easily. It has a slightly spicy scent (reminds me of cloves) that can be overwhelming if your nose is sensitive, but it fades quickly.

A combo of Dove Cream Oil Body Wash and Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour moisturizer has totally made a difference. I can especially see it on my legs, which now look and feel soft all day long. No more alligator-eque, scaly skin. Yay!

There’s just one tiny beef I have with this product. I am not crazy about the packaging. It looks a little cheesy and reminds me of a space ship. Because of this, I’m glad it stays in my shower and not someplace highly visible like my dresser, where I’d find reason to hate it every chance I entered the room.

Despite this minor issue, Dove Cream Oil Body Wash is a winner in my book. There are three types available which offer various levels of moisturization: Delicate, Creamy and Ultra Rich. If you’re super dry like me then pick up the Ultra Rich.

A huge 19.4 fl oz bottle of Dove Cream Oil Body Wash is about $8.00.

Do you ever get on a kick where you can’t stop listening to a song? I’ve been listening to Natasha Bedingfield’s “Love Like This” non stop. It makes me happy every time I hear it. I guess it’s pretty new so there’s no video yet, but if you want to give it a listen here it is:

What song do you have stuck in your head today?

Product Reviews, Fragrance, Just for fun: Random Acts of Beauty; Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen Perfumes; Starlight Perfume by Shania Twain

November 7th, 2007 by Karen 22 Comments

fussytabby-random-acts-of-beauty

One beauty blogger. Countless hours of music video watching. Two random acts of beauty.

Fall 1981

I’m in first grade. I get home from school one day, turn on the telly and see Blondie’s video, “Heart of Glass,” for the first time. Debbie Harry is blonde and bad-ass. I decide she’s the bomb and make the pledge to be her when I grow up.

debbie-harry

During dinner I ask my mom if I can cut my long, straight black hair. “I want it short,” I say. “Blonde, too! And I’d like to do it before school tomorrow.”

My mom rolls her eyes, plops some vegetables on my plate and snorts, “Next year.” This answer is standard operating procedure in our household so I just shrug it off. I figure, okay, I can wait until second grade. It’s not that far away. (It wasn’t until I was much older when I finally figured out the words “next year” were code for “Oh hell naaaaaw, girl.”)

Later that evening, I sneak my mom’s gray shawl out of her bedroom. I put on some Grape Lip Smackers Gloss and dance around my room while singing, “La la la lah, heart of glass!” Even though I don’t have the blonde hair, boobs, or a band for that matter, my inner bad-ass Debbie manages to manifest itself. Yes!

Summer 1984

Madonna’s “Lucky Star” video is playing on MTV practically 24 hours a day. I am convinced that the black outfit that she has on is just the thing to wear to school picture day in the fall.

madonna-lucky-star

While we’re shopping for school clothes at Mervyn’s (there was no Limited Too back in the day), I freak out when I discover that the children’s section has no black, fingerless lace gloves. Wait … no black mesh tops either? What the hell?

My mom hands me a glittery unicorn decal T-shirt. I kick furiously at the carpet and foam at the mouth. To hell with the unicorns! It’s the black Lucky Star outfit or death!

“Don’t you start fussing about clothes,” my mom threatens through clenched teeth. “There are starving, naked children running around in the Philippines! Do you think they whine about black lace gloves? All they want is a scoop of rice and some underwear!”

Blah, blah, blah. I tune her out and pout all the way home.

I decide there is only one way to rebel against that dumbass unicorn T shirt. I put on some of my mom’s black eyeliner and try very carefully to make it look just like Madonna’s in the video. I somehow figure out how to work the VCR, tape the Lucky Star video, and then play it over and over again. Play, rewind, dance. Play, rewind, dance. I learn the entire video by heart. Hours pass. The sun goes down.

For some weird reason my parents say nothing while this strangeness unfolds in the living room. Maybe they figured at least I was exercising and not hanging out with the neighborhood ruffians. Or perhaps they thought I was possessed by the spirits and that there wasn’t anything they could do. They’ve never clarified why they let me dance around for five hours wearing crazy black eyeliner; I suspect they never will.

That day was the first day I ever wore black eyeliner and it’s been downhill ever since. I owe part of my makeup obsession to Madge and that fateful black outfit. She’s still number one in my book. And to this day, whenever the Lucky Star video starts playing, I can’t help but bust out the dance moves. Yes!

In the Beginning, there was Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

I went to Long’s yesterday to buy some Wet Ones Wipes to clean my brushes, a packet of LifeSavers Gummies (my sixth major food group) and some Cover Girl Lash Blast.

So I’m wandering around the makeup section when lo and behold, I run into the celebrity perfume aisle. I never paid attention to it until a few weeks ago, when I had the earth-shattering revelation that not all celeb perfumes suck.

I saw perfumes by the usual suspects (J.Lo, Hillary Duff, Britney), as well as the not-so usual suspects (Antonio Banderas — LOLOLOLZ).

Suddenly I realized that there was an inordinate amount of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen perfumes and body sprays. It’s clear from the ad pictures that these were made years ago, prior to the twins’ movement into high fashion.

These girls are like the OG original gangsters of celeb perfumes. They’ve got about 10 different kinds and their perfumes take up half of the aisle. Holy shizz!

The Olsen Twins, aka the Terminators of the Drugstore Celeb Perfume World
mary-kate-ashley-olsen-perfume-set-1
mary-kate-ashley-olsen-perfume-2
mary-kate-ashley-olsen-perfume-3

For reasons unknown I really wanted to buy the $15.99 gift set, but I wasn’t exactly ready to go there.

Later on that day, I chatted with my girl Julie from Almost Pretty. She confessed to having smelled a few MK and Ashley scents and described them as being akin to being enveloped in a smelly cloud of “sparkly crack.” THANK JEEBUS I held back from buying that set.

More Holiday Wish List 2007 — Starlight Perfume by Shania Twain

I’m happy to report that not all of the drugstore celeb perfumes are steeped in scent tragedy. One budget-minded perfume that I’ve actually been liking is Shania Twain’s Starlight.
shania-starlight-bottle

The scent is very crisp, and reminds me of a mix of snow and champagne. On my skin the perfume reveals very few floral notes and smells more like a feminine, sophisticated version of men’s cologne.
shania-starlight-ad-pics

Shania looks really great in this ad campaign, too. Girlfriend is fierce in that prom dress.

If you’re on a strict budget this year (and girl…trust me, I’ve been there) then this is a great gift option for your brother or sister’s girlfriend.

The 1.7 fl oz bottle of Shania Starlight is $34.00 for an eau de toilette spray; the smaller, 0.5 fl oz. spray is $18.00.

Today I’m going to do some more MAC Holiday 2007 product testing. I’ll have some more lovely swatches and pics of the Royal Assets Eye Shadow sets and Lip Sets soon!

Aren’t you glad it’s Wednesday? We’re halfway there, ya’ll! HOLD ON!

Karen

More Holiday Wish List 2007 – Elizabeth Arden Mediterranean Perfume

elizabeth-arder-mediterranean

It’s been months since I’ve gone surfing and I miss being in the ocean. Just looking at the blue packaging and bottle for Elizabeth Arden’s Mediterranean perfume makes me feel like I’m in Hawaii, sitting on my board and waiting for the next wave to come and carry me away.

Aside from the beautiful bottle and packaging, the best part about this perfume is that the scent isn’t too heavy or cloying. Mediterranean is described on the Elizabeth Arden Web site as a “radiant woody floral.” Imagine a hybrid between the best parts of Fresh’s Lemon Sugar perfume and Covet.

When I spray it on I get an initial burst that’s lemony and white floral. It then dries down to a light, black tea scent. On me Mediterranean smells gender neutral and not overly feminine or sweet.

If you have a girlfriend, sister or mom who likes perfumes that aren’t too sweet then she’ll love this. It would also be a great gift for a friend who loves beachy scents but doesn’t like strong “tropical” notes like pikake or tuberose.

The 1.7 fl oz bottle you see in the pic above is $47.50, but for the holidays Elizabeth Arden’s got a special set that includes the 1.7 fl oz Eau de Parfum Spray, Body Lotion and a wee Eau de Parfum replica for $52.00. Don’t you love the extra goodies in gifts sets? I sure do.

A Holiday 2007 Face of the Day with Clinique’s “Happy & Bright” Makeup

Here’s a face of the day I did with Clinique’s Holiday 2007 “Happy & Bright” makeup. What do you think?

fotd-clinique-happy-bright-110307-closeup

fotd-clinique-happy-bright-holiday-2007-110307-eye

I used the pink shade farthest on the left all over the lid, then the peach shade to highlight the browbone and inner eye. I put the lighter brown shade in the crease and used the darker brown on the far right to line the top and bottom. Then I finished it off with two coats of BECCA The Ultimate Mascara in Black.

clinique-pink-truffle-quad

On the cheeks I used the lightest touch of MAC’s Dollymix blush with Clinique Fresh Bloom Allover Colour in Peony layered on top.
clinique-fresh-bloom-peony

I finished the look off with Raspberry Glace Different Lipstick and Camisole Full Potential Lipglass on the lips.

fotd-clinique-happy-bright-holiday-2007-110307

I really love these colors. They are buildable and pretty much mistake proof. My next Clinique Holiday 2007 mission: use the Pink Truffle quad to create a gentle smoky eye!

I saw this kid dancing on “The Soup” and I laughed for about 10 minutes straight. I kept rewinding and laughing, rewinding and laughing. He’s my hero.

Not that I need any more TV in my life, but Torchwood on BBC is FANTASTIC. Tivo it, yo!

What’s My Motivation?

Today I was in an infinitely better mood then yesterday because last night I slept twelve hours. No joke. Every moment of sleep was like manna from the heavens. Ahhhh!

In between working it out at the gym and watching the Colts and Patriots game (that Tom Brady is HAWT!) I thought of all the stuff I have to get done this week that I just don’t want to do.

“Hmmm,” I thought, “What’s the ultimate form of motivation? What’s gonna make me want to go the extra mile to get all this craptacular crapola done?”

The answer? C to the H to the A to the N to the E to the L.

The reward for finishing my first project…

The moral of this story? A little Chanel bribery goes a long, long way.

Face of the Day (FOTD) and Product Reviews: Rimmel London Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Pencil in Jungle Green

October 30th, 2007 by Karen 35 Comments

I was rifling around my makeup today and found a long lost friend, Rimmel London Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Pencil in Jungle Green.

This beautiful emerald eyeliner is soft, glides easily, has all-day lasting power and gives a shimmery pop of color. And it’s only $2.99 at Walgreens, hello! If you’re feelin’ the itch to try a jewel-toned green liner this is the perfect way to test the waters without having to spend a lot of money.

In addition to Rimmel Jungle Green I used the following on the eye:

– MAC Groundwork Paintpot all over the lid
– MAC Soft Brown Matte Shadow in the crease and on bottom lashline
– LORAC Jade eyeshadow from lashline and just barely into the crease
– MAC Plushlash Mascara in Plushblack

On the cheeks:

– MAC Emote Blush
– MAC Pearl Sunshine Beauty Powder

On the lips:

– MAC Cremestick Liner in Beurre
– MAC Lipglass in Magestic

… HOLY FREAKING CRAP! Did you feel the earthquake?

I hope you are intact!

Karen

Booty Short Stress

I report with a touch of sadness that last night’s pole dance class did not happen. Our instructor never showed up (BOO) so all of my booty short stress was all for naught. We ended up going to get suishi and then to a club called Suede. For the record, it’s hard to dance with cat ears on.
