Two Ways to Win MAC’s Viva Glam Gaga and Viva Glam Cyndi Lipsticks

February 11th, 2010 by Karen 575 Comments

  • UPDATE: Feb. 15, 2010. The giveaway is now closed. Congrats, Patty! 🙂

I’ve been a huge MAC fan for years, and they’ve always been easy to love — lots of jazzy color collections, quality products, helpful MUAs, great promotions, fantastic brushes and more. But one of my all-time favorite things about MAC has been Viva Glam. 🙂

Started way back in 1994 to support men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS, the celebrity-sponsored lipsticks and lipglosses MAC’s released periodically under the Viva Glam name have raised millions, every dollar of which has gone to support the cause. Pretty cool, yah?

When I heard that MAC was releasing the latest installments this week, Viva Glam Gaga lipstick (as in Lady Gaga, holla!) and Viva Glam Cyndi (as in Lauper), I snapped both up with a quickness!

Which reminds me, are you ready for a giveaway?

The prize

One lucky lady will win BOTH Viva Glam Gaga and Viva Glam Cyndi (a $28 value) lipsticks.

  • MAC Viva Glam Gaga ($14): a light blue-ish pink
  • MAC Viva Glam Cyndi ($14): a light reddish coral

How to enter…

2ways2enterEntering is easy. There are two different ways, and you can do both of them for two chances to win.

First, you can enter by leaving a comment at the bottom of this post, a comment about anything at all.

When I was eight, I desperately wanted to dye my hair red and then shave half of it off like Cyndi Lauper. Yeah… my parents were NOT ON BOARD!

Second, enter by following me on Twitter and retweeting (RT) the following message:

Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Advanced Anti-Aging Body Washes AND Shaves

February 11th, 2010 by Karen 4 Comments

[big yawn] Good morning, young lady. 🙂 How did you sleep? Are you ready to tackle Thursday with me?

Before we jump into the rat race today, do you remember last month’s Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Advanced Anti-Aging Body Wash giveaway?

MBB reader Christy won Olay’s 1) Deep Penetrating Moisture and Exfoliate and 2) Replenish body washes and had a few things to say about them…

“At first sniff, it’s a very pleasant scent — reminiscent of their face washes. Once in the shower, though, it started to remind me of that gum I chewed long ago, Bubblicious, mixed with a soft floral. The wash itself is of a nice creamy texture, and since I received a free sample (thank you, Olay), I used a LOT on my first run. Even though I have stubborn skin, it did feel smoother after my first use — but we do have to keep in mind that petrolatum and mineral oil are the main ingredients, so that accounts for much of the moisturised feeling.

There isn’t much of a difference between the one that exfoliates and the one that deeply moisturises – the exfoliating granules are so minute – but I’d purchase the latter as it doubles for a fantastic soothing shaving lotion. All in all, I would recommend the product as the thick formula does make you feel pampered.“

Thanks, Christy. I took your advice and tried using the Deep Penetrating formula as a shaving cream. Good call! The rich lotion tamed my Venus razor.

Julia Roberts: Her Best Hair?

February 10th, 2010 by Karen 9 Comments

julia-roberts-hair-poll

Is everyone and their mum starring in the new Valentine’s Day movie? It’s got enough Hollywood stars to fill a small galaxy! On Monday night members of the ensemble cast — which includes Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Garner, Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Alba and Queen Latifah, to name a few — hit the red carpet for the premiere.

Didn’t Julia look particularly stylin’ in her black dress and silver heels? 🙂

I’ve been a fan of hers since 1988’s Mystic Pizza, but Notting Hill and My Best Friend’s Wedding are probably my favorites from her list of credits… Those DVDs have come in handy many times over the years, always cheering me up on brutal days.

It’s funny, but I totally remember envying Julia’s hella big red mane circa 1988, ha! It’s tame by comparison now, but I still like the ways she works it.

Which of Julia's hairstyles do you like best?

A Healing Drugstore Haul: Can I Get an Amen?

February 9th, 2010 by Karen 40 Comments

Nothing hits the spot like a drugstore haul, and since I was a little cranky this afternoon, I decided to stop by Target to cheer myself up.

I started with anti-cranky essentials like candy (see above) and magazines (see below).

But I found the REAL hard core healing in the beauty aisle. That’s where it usually happens for me, ha!

Physicians Formula, Sonia Kashuk and Sally Hansen? Check, check and check. 🙂

  5. Makeup or beauty confession:
  6. I shaved my big toe last night in the shower, LOL! That toe gets wicked hairy… I’m sure I could braid it.

  7. Small piece of advice:
  8. If your lame ex-boyfriend sends you a friend request on Facebook, hit ignore. It’s more satisfying than Snickers.

  9. Eyes/lips/cheeks:
  10. MAC Crush Metal Pigments in Stacked 1/Smashbox Limitless Lipgloss in Boundless/MAC Ombre Blush in Ripe Peach

  11. This morning I told myself to _________.

  13. I’d really like _________.
  14. The new Canon Rebel T2i. Oh, and a yummy chopped salad for lunch .

  15. What’s the story behind your pet’s name?
  16. When Tabs and I were getting acquainted a few years back, I was calling him “FT”, for “Fussy Tabby”, on account of how cranky he always looked. The name never stuck, though; it morphed into Tabby, and then Tabs. 🙂

  17. Outfit:
  18. Skinny jeans, a black tank top and black sweater.

  19. Weekly goals:
  20. Finally assemble the two Ikea Alex Drawer Units I picked up a few weeks ago, try to make this Linguine with Garlicky Clams and Peas recipe, and add (no, seriously) some push-ups and sit ups to my workouts.

Have a great week, ladies. 🙂 Monday kinda snuck up on me this time… I turned around and BAM! — there it was.

Do you have a busy day planned? Any boring meetings, tests or papers due? Let me know how you’re doing if you can. Just copy the empty list, and paste it with your answers in the comments.

What Were Your Best and Worst Beauty Experiences of the Week?

February 7th, 2010 by Karen 38 Comments

MY BEST:

Rediscovering MAC’s creamy Groundwork Paint Pot ($16.50) eyeshadow. I’ve had it for years but sorta forgot about it until this week, when I wore it as a base for the purples in the Stacked 1 Crush Metal Pigments. I think the rich taupe and matte finish really contrast well with S1’s vibrant violet. LOVE IT!

MY WORST:

Brushing my hair last night I realized I can no longer get away with going five months between hair colorings. Gone are the days when I could easily hide a few gray roots because the few have turned into a full-on gray invasion!

What were your best and worst beauty experiences of the week? Please share yours in the comments.

The big game’s getting ready to start, which means football fanatics nationwide are sporting their team colors with shirts, hats and even makeup.

I’m not really rooting for one team over the other this year, but Tabs made his choice clear. He’s all about team spirit. 🙂

Have you ever worn makeup to support your team?

P.S. Tabs actually won the MVF (Most Valuable Feline) award in last year’s Kitty Bowl for his stunning fourth quarter touchdown catch that put the Mill Valley Wildcats over the top.

Yes, I know I sound crazy, LOL! 🙂

GO SAINTS!

Sites of the Day

February 7th, 2010 by Karen 9 Comments

Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and cold beer — It’s Super Bowl Sunday, ladies! Is your tummy ready to rumble?

I don’t follow football during the regular season, but I love to eat my way through the big game, you know what I’m sayin’? 🙂

Let’s take a quick look around the interwebs before the teams head down to the field… Tabs is already warming up and stretching his calves.

Herbal Essences

Herbal Essences must have haird my cries (LOL!) because they packed the “get the look” section of their website with some pretty cool how-to hair videos and a glossary of tips on the best ways to use popular styling tools like hair dryers and curling irons. Nice.

thesixtyone

thesixtyone and I have been making sweet, sweet music together all morning long. The site’s like a more social version of Pandora where Indie musicians can share their tunes, and listeners can vote them up or down. Good job on the interface and huge album cover-style images. I gotta get my music fix, ya’ll. 🙂

COLORSLAB – Current Issue: The Sea

Please. visit. COLORSLAB. It’s one of those ideas that isn’t necessarily new (user-submitted content: magazine articles, photos and video), but it’s executed in a way that simply works, beautifully. The real life touching stories and imagery (the current issue is titled “The Sea”) gets me all choked up.

IINSIGHT – Indie Network

Hit IINSIGHT for sharp, bleeding edge urban music, fashion, entertainment and art scene news. WTF!? There’s an Adidas Original Star Wars Collection!?
