Tabs for MAC Style Warrior

Sleepy sheepy, girls… I think it’s time for an afternoon nap, even though I shouldn’t because I have errands to run.

Tabs wanted to share the new promo shot for his latest MAC collaboration. You may have heard about MAC’s upcoming Style Warrior collection (arrives in May). Well, it had originally been called something else. 🙂

Tabs is totally freaking out right now. I’m organizing my dressers in the bedroom while he does laps around the room.

When he came home this morning after spending the night outside he was wearing Gap…

LOL! Enjoy the rest of your day.

“I just wanted to see how the Prescriptives foundation and powder I tried on at Nordstrom earlier would look like with some eye and cheek color. And since it was St. Patrick’s day, why not play with some greens? 🙂 The green came out lighter because of the flash and the lighting in my room is all whacked so it turned out a little lime/yellowish. It’s more smokey in real life.”

Swatch Out! Swatches and Pics of Some Current and Upcoming Makeup Collections

March 21st, 2009 by Karen 8 Comments

Tabs loves swatches

  • Bobbi Brown Platinum Collection — This time Bobbi gives us several new lipgloss and cream eyeshadow colors, along with a limited edition Shimmer Brick. The color palette’s a mix of cool gray, pink and peach, with a dash of purple.
  • Chanel Summer 2009 Cote D’Azur — Unlike the smokey eyes and creamy bold lips of the Spring 2009 Bohemian Fantasy Collection, Cote D’Azur is all about soft bronzes with pops of vibrant, glossy color on the lips.
  • MAC Grand Duos Mineralize Blush Collection — MAC added a twist to these new Mineralize Blushes by injecting each pan with a complementary solid shade in a frosty finish. The result is a split personality blush duo, half multi-colored shimmer, half solid frost, meant to be swirled together and worn on the cheeks for a shimmery glow.
  • Barbie Loves Stila — Each of the new BLS beauty cans comes with lipgloss, mascara and a gaw-geous coordinating palette with two eyeshadows and a blush. The Foxy can’s sassy, summery orange, gold and berry shades command attention, while the Jewel can’s makeup in shades of pink, peach and brown is all about flirty and fun.
  • MAC Sugarsweet Collection — Just one look at the MAC Sugarsweet Collection set my sweet tooth throbbing. This pastel confection of pink, green and peach eyeshadows, lipsticks, glosses and Mineralize Skinfinish Powders reminds me of cupcakes, candies and all the tasty goodies associated with stretchy pants.
  • Dior Cristal Collection Summer 2009 — There’s shimmer in them thar hills! These blues, corals and pinks get me so excited that my mind feels like it’s going a zillion miles a minute.

Bon dia!

Good morning, ladies. 🙂 I hope yours got off to a good start. I’m sitting here nursing a cup of coffee, surfing the web and waiting for my Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Recovery Mask to dry.

This morning I got a nice e-mail from reader Megan letting me know about an amazingly awesome sale going on at Too Faced right now, with select items up to 75 percent off.

I’ve got a whole lotta $5 eyeshadows in my cart right now, LOL! The sale ends April 6.

How’s your Saturday so far?

10 Spring Makeup Tips and Trends

March 20th, 2009 by Karen 6 Comments

Spring tulips

Well, it’s official. Spring has sprung! 🙂

It’s the start of a new season, ladies, so what does that mean for my makeup?

LOL, not a lot! I have to confess: I don’t adhere to guidelines for seasonal colors and trends. Sometimes I’ll wear a heavy foundation, dark shadow and murky lip color in the middle of spring or summer. It just depends on how I feel.

But that’s not to say I don’t take seasonal makeup guidelines under advisement. It all just adds to the fun!

10 simple spring makeup tips and trends

  1. Spring makeup means simple and clean with hints of color. Instead of heavier purples and precious metals, reach for more neutral shades.
  2. While purples and plums dominated the winter, have fun with feminine and flirty lilac shadow applied on the lower lid and into the crease.
  3. Try a baby-soft rosy pink cheek blush with a pop of shimmer on top for a healthy, youthful glow.
  4. Make the most of the changing light. Apply a light dusting of a natural brown (instead of an orange) bronzer where the sun hits the face on the cheek bones, the bridge of the nose and on your forehead and chin.
  5. Spring eyes are usually (but not always) light, and we see a lot of lighter, neutral shadows with sparkle like copper, gold or champagne.
  6. Add a touch of extra shine to the inner corners of your eyes with a shimmery white cream or powder to make them POP!
  7. Lip colors either lighten up for daytime in spring, with lots of glossy pink and salmon, or they go bright with berries to balance lighter eyes and cheeks.
  8. Have fun with something bright and warm on your nails like fuchsia, magenta or bubble gum pink!
  9. Brown eyeshadow never goes out of style, but at Fashion Week we also saw it used a lot as a liner for a softer overall look, especially along the lower lash line.
  10. Try a colorful smokey eye using springy blues or greens. Pale-skinned beauties might go sheer, while tanned lovelies can go deeper.

You Must Choose: The Economy Edition

March 18th, 2009 by Karen 43 Comments

you-must-choose-081508

1. Which MAC collection do you choose?

The Beauty gods take pity on all the beauty addicts feeling the economic pinch and decide to bestow upon each of us one entire MAC collection from the past, present or future. WHEE! Which collection do you choose? This is gonna be a toughy…
YOU MUST CHOOSE!

barbie-loves-mac
You know what collection I’d pick!

2. Terrible gas or unhooked bra?

You finally score an interview for your dream job.

Unfortunately, fate throws you a curve ball.

In the interview, you must endure either…

A) sudden and terrible gas (hold it in!) or B) having your bra (it snaps in the front) come unhooked so the girls are flapping freely beneath your blouse?

Side note: This has actually happened to me in an interview. Talk about distracting.

YOU MUST CHOOSE!

3. Reality TV time?

Times are tough, and the only job you’ve been able to land is as a contestant on your choice of four reality TV dating shows. Your options: For the Love of Ray J (LOL!), The Bachelor, Rock of Love Tour Bus or Flavor of Love 17.
YOU MUST CHOOSE!

Share Your Look: The St. Patrick’s Day Edition

March 17th, 2009 by Karen 16 Comments

share-your-look-1

Hiya, girls! Because we’re all Irish today , I’m celebrating St. Paddy’s with a green shirt, green eyeshadow and a few pints of green beer — just kidding! — green tea. El Hub really is part Irish, and I’m planning to go to the store this afternoon to get stuff for corned beef and cabbage, yum.

I dunno if we’ll go out for green beer tonight… We shall see!

Anyhoo, I think it would be kinda fun if we did another round of Share Your Look. Send in your look for today or tonight. If you’re going green, great, but your look doesn’t have to be green. The sky’s the limit.

Inspire me!

My St. Paddy’s Day look’s posted above, and I’m putting together a tutorial for it right now.

  • Eyes: MAC Paint Pot in Painterly, MAC Eye Kohl in Powersurge, MAC Pigment in Golden Olive, MAC Pigment in Gold Mode, MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack, MAC Eyeshadow in Humid, MAC Glitter Reflects Antique Gold, Chanel Exceptionnel Mascara
  • Lips: Chanel Aqualumiere Gloss in Tangerine Dream
  • Cheeks: Benefit Coralista Blush
  • A description of my look: I wanted this shimmery gold and green eye to match my green polo. This look’s basically a neutral eye with some extra color on the lid.

It’s still pretty neutral (i.e. safe for non-St. Patrick’s Day use), but I dusted Reflects Antique Gold over the entire lid for a touch of sparkle.

Your turn!

Share your look by filling out this form. Attach a picture (or a link), and feel free to cut loose. Cats, dogs and mugs of green beer are totally allowed.

FEED OR EMAIL READERS: I haven’t figured out how to get the form to work correctly from the feed or the emails yet. I think it’s possible, but for now, if you’re reading this on the feed, please click this link if you want to fill out the form.
