Are you ready to win $150 in products from The Body Shop? I hope so — because it’s time to play Peppermint Pursuit!

Follow the clue to get your hands on the Peppermint Pursuit Gift Pack (an assortment of peppermint foot care products) and some of The Body Shop’s customer favorites, yea!

Divide & Multiply Mascara
Shea Body Butter
Coconut Oil Hair Shine

Peppermint Footcare Package
Peppermint Cooling Foot Lotion
Peppermint Cooling Foot Rescue Treatment
Peppermint Cooling Foot Spray

Tabs loves peppermint almost as much as he loves catnip. 🙂

The Rules

Peppermint Pursuit is an online scavenger hunt kindly sponsored by The Body Shop. The rules are easy.

Read the following clue, and then click the featured products link to go to the The Body Shop site. Using the clue as your guide, guess which of the featured products the clue describes, and then leave your guess here in the comments on this post. I’ll pick the winner at random from among the people who leave the correct answer (odds of winning: about 100,000 times better than the lottery, LOL!) by 11PM PST tonight.

The Clue

Color flush on cheeks like a delicate flower
This blush will enhance your inner power
Look for a design with a little pizzazz
And your face will be happy to give all it has.

Featured products link: click here!

Last night I told Tabs it was gonna be a hard candy Christmas and a lean year for gifts. In retaliation, he bit my toe, flipped over his litter box and grumbled as he walked out of the room.

Don’t be like Tabs.

More Chances to Win!

Each day this week, a different blogger pal will post a new clue leading to a different set of products, and there will be a new winning product each day with a new chance to win. Good luck, and congratulations to readers babyu21 and nessa for winning last week’s Olay giveaway!

Sundays with Tabs the Cat, Makeup and Beauty Blog Mascot, Dec. 14

December 14th, 2008 by Karen 16 Comments

Tabs sure was fired up last night! — so fired up, in fact, that I had to kick him out before going to bed. He was mrowling around with his ears pulled back, jumping at spots on the walls and swatting at shadows, LOL!

He did make it home for breakfast, though, sufficiently spent and back to his usual charming self. 🙂

Here are all of the past Sundays with Tabs posts going back to their inauspicious start last summer.

I hope you’re having a good Sunday so far. Tabs says hi!

Makeup and Beauty Blog Saturday Night

December 13th, 2008 by Karen 27 Comments

Heya, ladies!

I’d planned to write a couple more posts this afternoon, but I started playing with Photoshop and lost all track of time.

After Photoshopping I got the unrelenting urge to clean off my desk. The piles of paper have been holding me hostage! And that took a few hours, but I’m *finally* done. I’ve re-aligned my desk feng shui, yea! We’ll see how long that lasts…

I found a few goodies under the mess, like the sea biscuit I picked up in Key West and this bunny finger puppet (up top). He’s been gone a while… It was like finding buried treasure, I tell ya.

Tonight, I’m just chilling out at home. On the agenda: practice applying false lashes! I have a few pairs from Lash Addiction ($6 each) that I’ve been dying to try.

As for background music, I’m in trouble. I’m secretly trying to drive El Hub and Tabs crazy by playing Britney Spears’ Trouble over and over and over again until someone snaps, LOL!

What are you up to tonight? 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. MAC addicts — a quick update on the Chill collection. The release date has been moved up to December 18th! Woot, woot!

What Keeps You Awake at Night?

December 13th, 2008 by Karen 43 Comments

Do you ever have a hard time getting a good night’s sleep? I do, like last night — I guess I stayed up too late or ate too late or … did something too late because I woke up after just a few hours of sleep and wasn’t able to doze off again.

The thing I can never figure out is why I sleep differently from night to night, even though I try to keep the same patterns before bed. What makes me able to sleep a full eight hours one night but then struggle to fall asleep at all the next?

One thing’s for sure — I know I’m not the only woman reading this blog who has trouble sleeping from time to time. At least 60 million Americans each year experience at least occasional sleep trubs. Beyond that, women are 1.4 times more likely to have problems sleeping than men are, yippee!

What keeps you awake at night?

Oh, well, I guess that’s what naps, concealer and coffee are for… 🙂

5 Plum Posts: An Ode to Purple Makeup

December 12th, 2008 by Karen 8 Comments

MAC Makeup How-to: Bold Red and Purple Eye with Light Lips and Cheeks

“…I need a little help when it comes to using bold colors, so I followed the directions for this bright red and purple eye featured on the MAC Website. This is the ‘Her Fancy’ look, one of four Antiquitease face charts.”

How To: A Purple Smokey Eye with Stila Convertible Eye Color in Violet

“Stila Convertible Eye Color in Violet made quick work of this smokey purple eye. The Violet shade’s pencil is a shimmery, dark plum; the coordinating shadow is a shimmery lavender.”

Get the Clinique Blackberry Bloom Look: Purple Smokey Eyes, Berry Lips and Cheeks

“Everyone loves blackberries. Take Clinique, for example. Next month they’re introducing Blackberry Bloom, a collection of violet and plum eye, lip and cheek makeup for the holidays. The first time I saw the gorgeous model in this promotional picture — her smokey purple eyes, berry lips and cheeks — I about fell over in my chair!”

Essie Winter 2008 Nail Polishes: Her Royal Hotness

“Well, cover me in jewels, and bring my royal scepter because the regal shades of rich purple, deep ruby and gold make the Essie Winter 2008 collection ($8 each) a royal tour de force! The colors remind me of His Royal Purpleness, Prince, from the height of Purple Rain fame.”

MAC Cosmetics Face of the Day: A Smokey Eye with MAC Pigment in Purple

“Layering extends the staying power of your eyeshadow and provides extra dimension. Try starting with a layer of a cream product — I like MAC Paint Pots, MAC Paint and MAC Cream Color Base in Pearl — and applying a powdered eyeshadow on top of the cream.”

Beauty Snacks: Sites of the Day, December 11

December 11th, 2008 by Karen 11 Comments

A Sleek and Classy Ponytail for the Holidays

If you need a new hairstyle for your next holiday party, try the uber easy, super slick ponytail.

Extra Credit: See if You Can Name All the MAC Brushes

I love the subtle smokey eye look that Kim Kardashian rocks in this how-to makeup video.

Black Market Haircuts

Shh… keep it on the down low: welcome to the stealth world of the underground hair party!

Surfing, USA

The Billabong Pipeline Masters, an annual surf contest held at the Banzai Pipeline on the North Shore of Oahu, is happening right now. These six footers are small for Pipeline, but I can only dream about surfing waves like this!

I See You Lookin’ at My Booty

All week long I’ve been walking around the house singing, “I see you lookin’ at my booty, booty, booty… booty!” because of this song.

Curly Hair Woes

Every curly-haired woman has her own story, and sometimes the happily ever after comes in the form of a flat iron.

Nicole Kidman: Her Best Hair?

December 9th, 2008 by Karen 10 Comments

Since her breakthrough role in 1989’s Dead Calm, Hawaii-born Australian beauty Nicole Mary Kidman has changed hair styles more often than Madonna’s changed accents. Here are some of the styles she’s worn over the years. No. 5 in the middle is from Australia, costarring Aussie cutie Hugh Jackman.

Which of Nicole's hairstyles do you like best?

Curly Hair Tips

Nicole’s been sporting straight blond hair a lot lately, but her natural hair is light red with curls. Love your curly locks with these 4 tips for curly-haired gals.

  1. Look for a stylist who specializes in cutting curly hair. To see the natural shape of the hair, curly hair needs to be cut wet. Try layering, but avoid going too short, otherwise you risk poofy hair!
  2. Use your fingers to comb through your curls, rather than a brush.
  3. Have a few anti-frizz products (try serums or gels) to keep frizz away.
  4. Naturally curly hair is usually more fragile than straight hair, so air dry your hair to minimize damage.

Are you gonna watch Australia? I’m going to try to see it this weekend. I like Baz Luhrmann’s film making style (Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge!, Strictly Ballroom).

I love Olay. I’m a big fan of the line. Over the past 10 years I’ve probably gone through about 20 bottles of Oil of Olay Complete for Sensitive Skin SPF 15! 🙂
