Judging by These New Rouge Bunny Rouge Glassy Gloss Shades, Some Bunny Loves Smokey Eyes

August 22nd, 2012 by Karen 15 Comments

You know what always cheers me up?

Hugs. And dessert. 🙂

And makeup. Most of the time. Right now, though, I’d really like a hug…

Can Tabs and I get a hug?

Thank you, and thank you for your nice words in the comments earlier today. You’re the Blanche, Rose and Dorothy to my Sophia (Golden Girls 4 life!).

Okay, lock it down, K. No more tears today…

So, I mentioned dessert (and my mouth is watering, of course) — you know what would really hit the spot right now? Something sweet, like these new sweet treat-themed Rouge Glassy Glosses from Rouge Bunny Rouge.

The five sheer, new shades are part of RBR’s Summer 2012 Mistral Collection. If you like super sheer (almost transparent), non-sticky, lightly tinted glosses with a mirror-like shine, you might get a kick out of these.

While technically part of a summer release, they’re destined to be worn with a pair of smokey eyes this fall.

Looking at them and seeing their names, I keep craving pink hard candies…but maybe that’s just me.

The new Rouge Bunny Rouge Glassy Gloss shades

  • 078 Rhubarb Custard: a semi-sheer, milky nude rosewood
  • 079 Rahat Lokum: a pale, shimmery, milky pink with a moderately pearly finish
  • 080 Raspberry Meringue: a pale pink with soft mother of pearl micro-shimmer (Rouge Bunny Rouge says this shade doesn’t have a strong color but makes lips look naturally pretty)
  • 81 Cherry Clafoutis: a sheer, blue-based, cool pink with warm golden opalescence
  • 082 Mousse Fandango: a dark, milky pink with a whisper of grayish mauve, and a touch of silver micro pearl

Laura Mercier’s Lightly Luminous Crème Smooth Lip Colours Will Last Through Lunch

August 21st, 2012 by Karen 17 Comments

Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Spiced Rose

Long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away…

Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip ColourOkay, so it wasn’t that long ago. More like last year. But nevertheless, last year at this place I’m talking about there lived a lipstick lover who, despite her best efforts, couldn’t find a long-wearing, moisturizing lipstick to save her life.

Every time she came close, she would fall into despair, with the contender leaving her parched pout just as dry and cracked as before.

Not one to give up easily, our lipstick lover looked and looked for the elusive creature, only to come up empty handed. Disappointed, she began to doubt that such a creature existed at all, and then one fall (this fall, actually), a field of moisturizing lip products sprouted up on shelves!

She saw Make Up For Ever’s glossy new Aqua Rouge Liquid Lip Colors and the Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipsticks from Hourglass, which covered her matte bases, but she still needed something in between…

Her heart longed for a shiny, long-wearing lipstick — but not too shiny — packed with pigment and comfortable to wear.

Just then, something caught her eye over at the Laura Mercier counter…

It was Laura’s new $26 Crème Smooth Lip Colours, available in 18 shades.

I’ve been getting to know a few of them this week — tawny peach Crème Coral, warm Rosewood and rosy beige Spiced Rose — and they make a pretty good first impression.

Effortlessly lightweight, natural-looking and oh-so-moisturizing, they also have a semi-luminous finish with a light shine.

One rich layer of the unscented, unflavored formula, which Laura loaded with olive oil and vitamin E, completely covers my lips with color and eradicates any flakes.

For Statement Lips That Last (and Last): The Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge Liquid Lip Colors

August 20th, 2012 by Karen 51 Comments

make up for ever aqua rouge review

In a way, Make Up For Ever’s 12 new Aqua Rouge liquid lip colors are like Terminators.

Perhaps Kyle Reese said it best: “It [the lip colors] can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop…”

But unlike those metal monsters from the future, these $24 lip colors just want to hang out with you…for a really, really long time.

They have a creamy liquid lip color with a doe-foot applicator on one end and a clear, non-sticky gloss with a brush on the other. Layered beneath the glosses, the lip colors, which pack full-tilt pigment, maximum opacity and a mirror-like shine, last on me from 4-6 hours, assuming I sip or nibble on something during that time, and a whopping 6-7 hours if I don’t.

Decisions, Decisions… Summer in Malibu or the Hamptons? Jouer’s Sheer and Shiny Moisturizing Lip Glosses in Malibu and Hamptons

August 17th, 2012 by Karen 12 Comments

jouer hamptons gloss

Only a couple weekends left until the end of August, and by virtue of that, the unofficial end of summer.

NOOOOOOO!!!

Oh, cruel, cool fall, how darest thou impinge upon my summer fun?!

Back! Back, I say! Away with you!

Oh, what’s the use? Fall is coming; there’s no stopping it. The very thought of being cold again gives me chills, and not in a good way.

What we need is an app for that… If you happen to be an iPhone developer, please invent an app with a summer pause button so we can extend the last weeks of the season and play with products like these two juicy, summery lipglosses from Jouer while it’s still summer.

The Moisturizing Lip Glosses in hot pink Malibu and shimmery golden coral Hamptons ($20 each) strutted onto Jouer counters and the Jouer Cosmetics website earlier this season, joining the ranks of the company’s permanent collection.

Both unscented, unflavored glosses feel thin and non-sticky on my lips, and they last about 2-3 hours.

A Quick Friday Makeup Tip for Eye-Catching Lips

August 17th, 2012 by Karen 21 Comments

makeup tips for lips
Lipstick in this look: Hourglass Opaque Rouge in Muse

I frickin’ love Will Ferrell movies. Really, the dude can just be sitting quietly in a chair, and I start cracking up.

I’ve seen Step Brothers about 20 times. That’s my favorite one, with Night at the Roxbury and Elf tied for second.

I caught Anchorman for the first time a few weeks ago, and even though I didn’t like it as much as I thought I would, I loved the makeup…

Yup, the makeup.

The movie’s set in the 1970s. Will Ferrell plays this cheesy news anchorman who pursues a beautiful and ambitious reporter, Veronica Corningstone, played by Christina Applegate.

Through the whole movie, I couldn’t keep my eyes off of Christina’s lips. Her character wears bright, eye-catching lip colors, and if you look closely, you can see also see a shimmery highlight on top of her cupid’s bow, at the top center of her upper lip.

It’s a little thing, but it adds a lot to your look, especially when you really want to put the focus on your pout and make your upper lip look a little more lifted.

I do this trick a lot because it only takes a few seconds…

And there’s not much to it. I usually use an eye pencil brush, one with a small brush head like the MAC 219. It has a stiff, dense, pointy end that’s great for little details like this.

I use all kinds of different highlighters for this one, too — creams, liquids, solid sticks, pressed powders, loose powders and pencil highlighters. Give it a try with one of your favorites.

Some ideas for highlighters…

  • Sonia Kashuk Perfecting Translucent Illuminator
  • Benefit High Beam and Moon Beam
  • Benefit Watt’s Up
  • MAC Iridescent Powder/Loose in Silver Dusk
  • MAC Iridescent Powder/Loose in Golden Bronze
  • Urban Decay Urbanglow Cream Highlighters
  • NARS Illuminators

Here I’m using a silvery pinkish beige loose powder, MAC Iridescent/Loose Powder in Silver Dusk.

And the Award for Longest Name in a Lip Gloss This Fall Goes to…Givenchy Acoustic Colors Gelee D’Interdie Smoothing Gloss Balm Crystal Shine in Acoustic Wild Rose!

August 10th, 2012 by Karen 26 Comments

givenchy acoustic wild rose closeup

Wild Rose.

That’s what they call me — the people who know me best — but everyone else just calls me by my given name, Givenchy Gelee D’Interdit Smoothing Gloss Balm Crystal Shine in Acoustic Wild Rose #18.

I’m new here. I actually don’t even start work till the fall. They got me sitting on shelves at this place called Sephora. It’s a contract position — you know, a limited time. I told them I wouldn’t work for a nickel less than $27.50. I said, “That’s my price.” And they agreed.

The job description called for someone who “has a thing for biker bars, bouquets, and playing breakup songs on her guitar at corner coffee shops on open mic night.”

Eh, I needed the work…

I’m a very sheer, shimmery pink, and have pearlescent purple and golden glitter. If I had my druthers, I would have preferred a job looking smooth, shiny and dainty on the lips of ladies who lunch — the bored ones who like a kick of disco glitter to spice up their cucumber sandwiches at afternoon tea.

You think maybe you’d like to show me around? 🙂
