Fitness! FITNESS!

And nutrition, bluh. Since New Year’s I’ve been trying to watch what I eat and thinking about getting back into shape for 2010.

When it comes to working out, I actually enjoy punishing myself with sweaty workouts (sick, I know!), but the whole healthy nutrition thing has proven to be quite a challenge for me.

At 10:38 a.m. today my tummy was ready for lunch. I know this because it started to growl. Nevermind that I’d only eaten breakfast an hour before, boo!

When it comes to my diet — much like how it is for me with makeup — it seems like everywhere I turn, temptation awaits!

Temptations like this lovely pan o’ MAC Suave Intentions Eyeshadow from the Love Lace collection. It brings to mind visions of yummy Skittles and forbidden (nom nom!) sweets.

I guess it’s good that I didn’t gobble it up, though, LOL! If I had, not only would I have a tummy troubles right now, but we wouldn’t be having a giveaway today. 🙂

The prize

One lucky lady will win a pan of MAC Suave Intentions Eyeshadow (a $15 value), a frosty, silvery blue from MAC’s recent Love Lace collection.

Let MAC Put a Spell on You with Their Pretty Pink Lip Bag

December 30th, 2009 by Karen 5 Comments

Written by Kristen of Sugar Social

Today Kristen of Sugar Social puts a spell on you with MAC’s pretty pink bag.

lips1-final

MAC’s Put a Spell on You Pink lip bag, part of the Magic, Mirth, and Mischief! holiday collection, makes lip color dreams come true. For just $36, you get a full-size Dazzleglass in Baby Sparks (light pink with sparkles), a full-size Dream lipstick (pearly beige-pink), and a small Dervish lip liner (a neutral-toned pink with flecks of subtle shimmer) — all squeezed into a cute metallic silver bag. Better still, the colors look great on all skin tones.

I have a beauty confession to make… Before purchasing this bag, I never wore lip liner. Not once. I hate the typical lip liner look, with a harsh line circling the mouth and a too-light lipstick or gloss filling in the lips, but I promise you, this bag will NOT give you that look.

The tried-and-true trio of lipstick, lip liner and gloss may seem like a no-brainer, but they can be worn together in surprisingly different ways. Below is my favorite look.

Substitutes

Dervish lip pencil and Baby Sparks Dazzleglass are part of MAC’s permanent collection. They can be recreated with other colors as well like…

3 Ways to Wear MAC’s Devil May Dare

December 28th, 2009 by Karen 9 Comments

Written by Kristen of Sugar Social

Today Kristen of Sugar Social shows us a few choice ways to wear MAC Devil May Dare.

eyes1-final

MAC’s Devil May Dare eye palette, part of the Magic, Mirth, and Mischief! holiday ’09 collection, is a versatile palette stocked with six eyeshadows that can be worn on virtually any skin tone. Reasonably priced at $36, it’ll carry you through the winter (and beyond) with an endless variety of day/evening eye looks like these.

But first, the shades! 🙂

eyes2-final

These looks can also be created with shadows from MAC’s permanent collection. Below is a list of substitutes for each shade in Devil May Dare.

  • Oh My Darling: Shroom
  • Dare Ya: Pink Venus or Da Bling
  • Sorcery: Embark
  • Gold Tease: Gleam, Motif, or Flip
  • Prankster: Greensmoke
  • Devilishly Dark: Sketch or Cranberry

Daytime Look #1: Au Naturel

This look is perfect for ladies who prefer something demure. It sculpts and polishes the eye without looking overly makeup-y. The shimmer in the shadows illuminates without over-depositing color. Best of all, it’s super easy and quick.

  1. Dip a flat shadow brush (like MAC 213 Fluff Brush) in Oh My Darling (the shade used as the base for all the eye looks shown here). Sweep the shadow from your lashline up to the brow bone.
  2. Dip the same brush in Dare Ya, a light pink that appears neutral on most skin tones. Cover the lid with it, extending just past the outer corner of the eye. The shade looks fabulous on ladies with darker skin tones. I think it illuminates the eye without overpowering the look.

Daytime Look #2: Fresh and Pretty

For those who want a finished eye with more intense (but still daytime-appropriate) color, give this look a whirl. It’s pretty and fun — not overly dark around the eye. Those who are averse to dark eyeshadow may like it as an evening look.

What Are Your MAC Staples?

December 4th, 2009 by Karen 65 Comments

mac-staples

Fellow MAC fans, imagine a world without your favorite MAC products, the ones you hope they never discontinue.

I would…
FREAK THE EFF OUT!

Here are my MAC staples:

  • MAC Eyeshadow in Concrete and the 266 Small Angled Brush: The dynamic duo I use to fill my eyebrows. Without ’em my facial expression looks stuck somewhere between surprise and adoration.
  • Eyeshadow in Soft Brown: I’m in crazy love with this matte brown. It’s my go-to crease color, matter of fact. Incidentally, I hear it gets a lot of use on the set of Mad Men.
  • Lipglass in Nymphette: I can’t even begin to guess the number of tubes I’ve finished. I’ve been a fan of this shimmery golden pink gloss *forever*.

If you’re a fellow MAC fiend fan, what are your staples from the brand? I’m always looking for new gems to try. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. TGIF, gals! How does your day look?

MAC Face of the Day: Utter Fun with a Bright Thursday Lip

December 3rd, 2009 by Karen 56 Comments

mac-cosmetics-fotd-1

Hi, ladies. 🙂 I’ve been working my way through a neutrals makeup phase for the past couple of weeks — you know, light pinks, peaches, beiges, the whole nine yards — and brights have been decidedly MIA.

But today they’re back in a BIG way. My inspiration? These crazy Jonagold apples I got from Trader Joe’s.

Nuts, right? I could play volleyball with these things (not that I’m any good with projectile sports)!

Aren’t they the most lovely shades of red? They made me want to bust out my tube of MAC Utter Fun Lipstick ($14), a similarly vibrant but creamy reddish pink.

MAC Unsung Hero: Powersurge Eye Kohl

November 25th, 2009 by Karen 41 Comments

mac powersurge eye kohl tip

If MAC ever discontinues Powersurge Eye Kohl ($15), I’ll hunt down every pencil at every MAC counter within a 30-mile radius, fo’ reals.

mac powersurge eye kohl swatch

My love for this shimmery golden bronze eye pencil runs deeeeep. A MAC artist introduced me to it about two years ago, and ever since that fateful day this pencil has graced my waterline many a time.

mac powersurge eye kohl end

On days when I don’t want the harshness of a black or brown liner, I like Powersurge. I think it adds just the right touch of emphasis to my lower waterline without leaving me looking too overdone.

Here she is in action with MAC Style Black…

Curious about Powersurge? Here are a few earlier posts:

  • MAC Starflash Goes Back to School: A Purple and Gold Eye
  • MAC Golden Olive Pigment Tutorial: A Green Eye for St. Patrick’s Day
  • Going Peach and Purple with MAC Brunette Blonde Redhead
  • MAC Cosmetics Blue and Green Face of the Day

I love it with gold, purple, bronze and green eyeshadows, but I think it also looks great on its own … or with curled lashes and tons of mascara, yay! 🙂

Have you met MAC Powersurge?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen
