Despite my obsession with The Love Boat as a child, I’ve never taken a cruise…because HELLO, CLAUSTROPHOBIA! But I might consider one if the destination were Chanel. LOL! “Hello, ladies and gentleman!” announces the captain over the ship’s intercom system. “Next stop: Chanel, a.k.a. ‘Your Makeup paradise.’ Please watch your step as you disembark the vessel.”
Who’s comin’ with me? ??
The new Chanel Cruise collection arrives in port next month, and judging by the pieces I wore today, Lucia Pica was going for a subtle look, as in sheer, luminous highlights on the high points of the face; soft, subtle contours on eyes and cheeks; a rosy brown lip; and a soft glossy glow on the lids.
I like it. Of course, I’ve been really into non-crazy makeup lately.
A few first impressions…
DUO BRONZE ET LUMIÈRE EXCLUSIVE CREATION BRONZER AND HIGHLIGHTER DUO IN CLAIR ($70): This subtle powder highlighter duo, which is the lighter of the two duos in the release, has a light peach matte on one side and a luminous pinkish peach on the other. The lightweight, finely-milled powder feels almost creamy, like the NARS Dual Intensity Blushes, and it’s very elegant and smooth… It’s definitely NOT appropriate for bling-bling highlights.
DUO BRONZE ET LUMIÈRE EXCLUSIVE CREATION BRONZER AND HIGHLIGHTER DUO IN MÉDIUM ($70): This one feels just as light as Clair, but it has a matte neutral chocolate bronzer on one side and a rosy gold highlighter on the other.
Note: It is VERY, VERY sheer, which I don’t mind, because it makes the product easy to control.
It should suit lighter lasses and medium-toned mavens particularly well.
Also noteworthy: The bronzer doesn’t have warm orange tones, so it’s a straight-up brown. If I apply it too heavily, I look like I have dirty stripes on my face…which is why I think you’re forced to wear it sheer.
(Works great as an eyeshadow duo, too.)
ROUGE COCO FLASH IN HYDRATING VIBRANT SHINE LIP COLOUR IN CONTRASTE ($38): This silky, moisturizing rosy brown lipstick looks a tad frightening in the bullet, but I think it’s totally wearable, comfy and oh, so shiny.
The formula smells and tastes a little like roses, and the color lasts about two hours for me.
I’m low-key addicted to this formula… Can I haz all teh colors, plz?
OMBRE PREMIÈRE GLOSSTOP COAT EYESHADOW IN LUNAIRE ($36): No glitter. Just pure silvery gloss.
Wear time is quite limited at about an hour. This is lighter than a MAC eye gloss, but not as light as the NARS one, which, overall, I like better because it lasts longer.
LE VERNIS LONGWEAR NAIL COLOUR IN AFTERGLOW AND PURPLE RAY ($28 EACH): Ooh! Pastel nails! I like that these aren’t simply pink or peach pastels. Afterglow is a grayish beige with a subtle golden pearl, and Purple Ray is a lavender cream with a subtle gray undertone.
I’ll be taking these for a spin after my current Sally Hansen mani disappears (or I remove it, whichever comes first).
The best thing I’ve tried from the collection so far is Rouge Coco Flash, and it’s gorgeous and effortless! I think I just found my new everyday lipstick.
It’s pricey…but you can wear it down to the nub.
I also like the face duos, but they might be too sheer for some peeps, especially considering the $70 price. You really have to appreciate the subtlety of the look Chanel was going for in order to “go there,” because there are similar products out there that will cost you a lot less.

All I can focus on is your Prince shirt- ?
I don’t think I could ever go on a real cruise – same issue. That and when I hear about everyone getting sick-?ugh.
Karen says
Don’t forget the pirates. And people disappearing randomly on honeymoons!
Patoots says
Yes!!!
Or “falling” overboard.

You might like to read or listen to Tina Fey’s “Bossypants” chapter about her honeymoon cruise. The boat’s engine caught on fire and they barely made it to port without having to evacuate to the lifeboats. They had to fly back to the US. She flatly says cruises are NOT FUN. I recommend the audiobook, as her comedic timing makes it funnier than reading the book. I’m not likely to ever take a cruise, for these reasons: 1. Too many rowdy drinkers, 2. Tiny cabins. 3. Disease spreads like wildfire on them. 4. They usually push people to gamble. 5. Entertainment on most is lame. 6. Women are frequently assaulted by crewmembers, and there’s not much you can do when things like that happen in international waters.
Karen says
I read the book ages ago and totally forgot about that part!

I haven´t been on a cruise either, it doesn´t sound like my idea of fun. But my parents took one last year and loved it. Maybe once I am 70?
LoriAnn Pashion Hamm says
Where did you get the Tshirt? I am a huge Prince fan
Karen says
Hi LoriAnn,
Me too! I got it at Target, maybe about a year or so ago? It’s been a while.
What is your fave Prince song, by the way?
One of my biggest regrets in my musical life is not seeing him in concert!
Patoots says
Mine is “Kiss”, but I have so many favorites. I saw him once and it was the best concert I’ve ever seen for many reasons. I was waiting for him to go on tour to take my guitar playing college son to see him. ?

I saw previews of this collection which included a beautiful eyeshadow palette. It all looks very sheer and while I love Chanel, it is way to pricey for me these days.
We actually went on a cruise in 2005 for my parents 50th anniversary. Zack was 4 and I have to tell you, we actually enjoyed it. The cruise line had a full day program for kids, including lunch and dinner one night. Zack had dinner with us the first night and the last night, but was busy most of the morning, and we did family excursions in the afternoon. We actually got to relax and enjoy ourselves.
Be well!

We went on a cruise a few years ago for my parents’ anniversary and it was pretty fun. (The entertainment was lame, though.) It was a smaller ship and pretty laid-back. Family friendly, so not many drunks. The best part was that they did fancy afternoon tea every day. Tiny sandwiches for everyone!
We got to explore Chichen Itza in Mexico, too. One of the most fascinating places I’ve ever been.
Karen says
I would totally go to tea every. Single. Day. 🙂 HOW FUN!

Another Chanel collection? I can’t keep up. Although the subtly of those bronzer/highlighters looks like they might be the thing I’ve been searching for.
I’m not sure I’d ever take a cruise. Although Dear Husband did take Dear Daughter to the Galapagos Islands and spent a week on a boat, although the capacity of said boat was only 12 guests plus crew and naturalist/tour guide.
Karen says
They’re very sheer. I think you might like them!

I love your beauty blog, Karen. It is my favorite. Your bubbly personality comes through, but even more your intelligence & your obvious education. You don’t use stupid words like other beauty bloggers do. You have a beautiful face that matches your soul.

I will be getting that lipstick in Contraste once I can find it…not yet available.
