Chanel Holiday 2017: Rouge Allure and Rouge Allure Velvet Lipsticks From the LIBRE 2017 NUMÉROS ROUGES Holiday Collection

Enrapturing raspberry red! Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Lipstick No. 2 from the Chanel Holiday 2017 Collection Libre Numéros Rouges

Girl, if you invited me over to your house to look at your makeup collection (because — hi, isn’t that a normal thing? In my mind it is…), and you opened up a drawer with just, like, red lipsticks, and all of them looked more or less the same, I’d be like, “Hello! Hallelujah! We’re high-fiving a million little angles right now, because you’re doing it right!” OK? Because when you’re a red lipstick lover, none of them are the same, and you appreciate all of the nuances.

That’s the first thing I’d say. The second thing I’d say is “Let’s go to Chanel right now, because you will freak out over the lipsticks in the Chanel holiday collection.”

Crimson cravings… From the left: No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3.

There are four of them, and the swooning starts as soon as you see the packaging. They’re all Rouge Allures, $37 each, with the same signature featherweight formula (couple different finishes, though), and they come in gorgeous gold limited edition tubes with red lacquered caps (yes, they have that classic and very satisfying Rouge Allure *click* when you press them).

If you like to wear lipstick but don’t like to feel it on your lips, Rouge Allure is the way to go. The formula is… I don’t want to call it thin, because that implies that it doesn’t last long, and these last 2-3 hours for me, or at least until I eat or drink something. They last longer than usual for lightweight lipsticks, and that’s another thing I love. Also, because they’re Chanel, oh, yeah… They taste and smell Like ? roses.

Nos. 1 and 4 have the classic creamy Rouge Allure finish, while Nos. 2 and 3 have the matte-ish Rouge Allure Velvet finish, which has a whisper of shine.

I’ve been testing three of the four — 1, 2 and 3 — and I’m completely obsessed with No. 2, a Rouge Allure Velvet with a raspberry undertone (I’m wearing it in the top pic).

No. 1

To the uninterested eye, all four of these probably look mostly the same (red), but they aren’t. There are definitely deliciously subtle differences, so when your significant other is like, “They’re the same,” you can say, “Nuh-uh, honey! No. 1 is a true red with a creamy finish, No. 2 is a raspberry red with a velvety matte finish, No. 3 is a brownish red with a velvety matte finish, and No. 4 is an orange red with a creamy finish.” You can break it down like that. 🙂

No. 3

For me, No. 2 is #1. It’s the brightest, the most playful, and the most striking one. I’m all about that blue undertone, too. I think it pops on my warm skin, and I also think it makes your pearly whites look brighter.

All four of these luscious lipsticks are over at Chanel right now. At the very least, you’ve gotta swatch No. 2. It’s worth it.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. The weather is saying there’s a big storm coming! It’s supposed to get here around 8… I’m both a little excited and anxious. Is that weird? First big storm of the season. ?

    Stay safe in the storm!
And if you´d ever stop by to look at my collection (totally normal) you´d see that I have dozens o different reds. The only way to go, if you ask me.

Though I keep my reds for special occasions, as an old time Marilyn Monroe fan, I will always have my little collection of reds (and Karen, I would even let you peek into my drawer 😉 It really depends on my mood, as sometimes I find a red with orange undertones very flattering too (in the summer with a slight tan and when my teeth are nice and white from a bleach treatment lol). But a raspberry red works always! And you are rocking each one of them! I’m just not sure about the rose scent on my lips! Stay safe during that storm!

Those both look great on you! I wish these were a tad less expensive so I could get #1 and #2!

They all look lovely on you, of course! I agree 100% with the blue undertones making people’s teeth look whiter. 🙂 Chanel makes me wish I could wear a red lip! I mean, I know that I *can* – I just wish it was flattering. And that I didn’t constantly smush my lips together until I looked like the Joker. HAHA!

I swatched them the other day at a local department store here. I thought at first also, oh it’s just another batch of red.. oh la la I’m so wrong! I’m in love with shade #4, the orange red. It’s a gorgeous shade combined with the creamy finish :). I agree that #2 looks great on you! Will get them after I’m done with this elephant task in front of me, as a reward!

      Hi Astrid,

I’ll have to give the orangey red a go. I loooove me some orangey red!

Did you get your task done?

Do it when you have the chance :). It hits the right balance of orange and red for me for sure.

No, I didn’t manage to finish the task yet, had to go into the weekend work mode. Oh well, you’ve just got to hustle sometimes! Hope your weekend will be more relaxing than mine, Karen :).

I feel like I’m drowning in red lipsticks, so I’m trying not to look at these at all. Went to Nordstrom yesterday to do returns and get Legendary Green Stylo Yeux and a sample of Le Teint Sublimage. My go-to SA wasn’t there so I decided not to browse too much.

      Hi Tatiana,

I’m the same way with nude lipsticks, HAHA! Have you had a chance to wear Legendary Green? I hope you like it!

I look dead in nude lipsticks. Guess I just haven’t found my shade yet. So I have lots of pinks, roses, fuchsias and reds.
Was planning on creating a look with the Legendary Green for dinner tonight. Dear Daughter is taking us out to SPQR in The City. I wonder if she’s going to try to get Dear Husband to pay for half.

I bought no2 today! I had been waiting for them to release at department store so I grabbed it from Macy’s website. I love a good pinkish red and this LE red tube is just so pretty!

I purchased no.2 and no.4 and thought of returning no.4 as I don’t need two red lipsticks from Chanel. Reading this post has convinced me I need to keep both. Wearing no.2 as I type this. its fabulous and love the formula
