If you liked it, then you shoulda put a cat in it.
Don’t be mad once you see the tabby’s paw on it.
‘Cause if you liked it, then you shoulda put a cat on it.
Oh, oh, oh (oh, oh, oh) oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
Oh, oh, oh (oh, oh, oh) oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
When you and I finally discover the mythical doorway to the alternate universe ruled by cat ladies and cross the threshold together, you’ll see. There will be cats on everything. Every piece of makeup. EVERYTHING! Because cats on makeup is the key to life!
Well, maybe not the key to life…but it makes things better. ?
Paul and Joe does it, Chantecaille did it with big cats, and now Chanel went there with ? lions. They put leonine heads on their holiday eyeshadows and holiday highlighter.
I’ve been wanting to use these shadows, but I couldn’t bring myself to sully the kitty cat designs on them. I’ve been surgically removing tiny amounts of the shadows from the sides of the pan (right next to the lion’s bushy mane) with the diminutive NARS 45 smudge brush, so as to protect the meow-velous design.
As much as it will pain me to do so, one of these days I’m going to have go all the way in there, because these shadows… UGH. Too good. Earlier today I smudged them along my lower lash line and on my outer third, then thought what the heck! and put them all over my lids.
As I was blending, I kept wondering, “Where’s the fallout? Why isn’t this more stressful?”
They’re just so smooth. I don’t want to call them “buttery” because everybody says “buttery,” but they’re really buttery!
They’re very similar to the MAC In Extra Dimension Eyeshadows — definitely powders, but they’re almost as soft as creams. And the shimmer? SO RIGHT. The satin finish is flecked with a whisper of bronze glitter, like secret shimmer.
It’s juuuust enough to be totally friendly to 40-plus lids.
If you’re into bronze, Cuivre Lamé is the way to go (oh, and please try not to imagine me saying that out loud because I muck up the French fabulously).
By the way, I blended out the edges of that bronze with the love of my life, Chanel Clair Obscur. I mixed the two medium browns and buffed out the edge with a MAC 217 (the old one, not the new synthetic version).
And then there’s black Noir Lamé. This morning as I smudged it along my upper lash line, I had my voice recorder on (I like to have it recording in the background so I can spit out verbal notes). I assumed Noir Lamé would be a basic black, but nooooo. It’s actually a dark gunmental with a taupe undertone — like Noir Pétrole’s cousin, and it’s gorgeous.
Using it, my inner monologue went a little something like this:
“Is this the real life? WOW. Why is this so creamy…? OK, Karen, please don’t do that. You really don’t have to smudge that all over your lids right now because you have to pick up Connor from preschool in a couple hours. But I want to! Let’s see what happens when I push it into my lashes with my smudge brush… YES! No fallout. Absolutely none! FRACK. Now I’m gonna want to grab the other shades… I bet the khaki one will be ?. Ah, FRACK!”
Haha! #truestory I talk to myself A LOT.
The moral of this story is that Coco and crew know how to get sh*t done.
And did I mention they put a cat on it?!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

I have seen the collection on various sites and I think they are gorgeous. I especially love the bronze shade, but I will have to pass on them. Not in the budget right now. I will live vicariously through you.
Be well!

Cats make everything better. I´d just need to get a teeny tiny brush too, to not disturbe the lion!
Lois says
Did you pick up the highlighter? I saw it in store yesterday and it was so beautiful!
Karen says
Hi, Lois! I’m wearing the highlighter here on my upper cheekbones here and as an inner corner highlight. Did you grab anything from the counter yesterday?
Lois says
Beautiful! It looks buildable?
I picked up the Hourglass Ambient unlocked palette! Love it!
Sarah says
Utterly gorgeous. I am fast becoming a Chanel makeup fan. What are your thoughts on Clair Obscur vs. the Les Beiges palette? (The original one). Is it worth it to have both?
Karen says
Hi Sarah,
My first question for you is do you like cool-toned browns?
Lexi says
Damn it – I thought I was done with holiday themed shadows when I bought Auntie Pat’s Dark Star and this came sauntering into my life. Ugh, I want this, ALL OF THIS!
Jan says
I love your eye look!
Mitzi says
Fantastic look, Karen! Aggh, these eye shadows have been so tempting, especially Vert Lamé. Hope I can resist until next month (then I can claim they’re Christmas presents for me!) 🙂

I ordered two of these shadows as soon as I saw them on-line. Once I got them I had to go back and order the remaining colors. Sigh. Chanel really knows how to take my money.
I didn’t even think about trying to preserve the lion imprint in them. Oh well. The colors are pretty and meant to be worn.
Chelsea says
These are gorgeous! And kitties!

Karen, you make me laugh! love this post. Cats and Chanel, sounds like heaven. and that Noir Lame looks so elegant… I don’t even use black eyeshadow but you are making me want it! I have Noir Petrole liner and no regrets there!
Rachel Runyan says
These are too pretty to use. I’d end up lining them up on my vanity and staring at them all day.
Everything is better with a cat on it!

I was instantly in Portlandia with put a bird on it.??

I love the randomness of that show! It is so dumb but it makes me laugh all the time. 🙂
