I got the idea for this metallic blue eyeliner look from a look Kristin Stewart wore to Cannes earlier this year, and I’ve been wanting to wear it ever since. Obviously, I’m no Beau Nelson (I WISH), but I tried.
There are so many things I love about this makeup look, but the main things are 1) how vibrant and metallic the liner is, and 2) how the liner morphs from bright metallic teal in the inner corner, to green in the middle (it isn’t obvious, but it’s there, methinks) and a dark blue in the corner, and that’s just along the upper lash line! The lower lash line has these small, subtle blocks of dark blue interspersed with teal… It’s colorful but not cray-cray.
I would totally wear this out to run errands. In fact, I did, out to get groceries, and I almost said “WASSSSUP” to the older woman who straight-up stared at me in the bread aisle as if I were a visitor from another planet.
Some thoughts on the key products
The most complicated thing in this look is the liner, but you can make it as easy or as complicated as you want. If you want to go a simpler route, you can use a couple of bright metallic blue pencils and a black liner on your water line, but I did a combination of eyeliner, cream shadow and powder shadow… Basically, I was in the mood to play. 🙂
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Electric: A metallic teal with silver glitter, available in the permanent line. It’s super bright and intense, but don’t get it anywhere close to your water line because your eyes will tear up if they’re sensitive.
Chanel Stylo Ombre Et Contour in Contour Graphique ($34): I used this dark matte navy as a base for the darker blue parts of the liner. It’s creamy, smudgy and intensely pigmented. It also takes about 5 minutes to fully dry down, so you’ll have lots of time to play with it.
Chanel Splendeur et Audace Quad ($61): I layered the black and blue shades on top of the dark matte navy liner. It’s shiny but less intensely metallic than similar shadows from Urban Decay and MAC… Eh, it’s alright.
Viseart Libertine Palette ($49): I swept the matte brown into the crease and blended the matte beige on my brow bone and in the inner corner. The shadows were easy to blend, but they have a very stark matte finish, which, on my dry lids, adds a few extra years…
Christian Audette X Beauty Professor Lipstick in Johanna ($60): One of three lipsticks from an LE collaboration set my gal pal Rachel over at The Beauty Professor recently did with Christian Audette, an indie line from New York.
Johanna is named after her baby girl, and it’s a warm-toned creamy nude matte that tastes and smells a little like vanilla. The super smooth formula doesn’t catch on any lip flakes or settle into my lip lines.
In a word: gorgeous! I topped it with a little Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss in 166 Physical for good measure.
My skin doesn’t look anywhere near this even-toned in real life, by the way. I went with a fuller coverage than normal because Kristin’s skin looked so perfect in the photo. I owe that magic to Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation (the original one) and Charlotte Tilbury Magic Away Liquid Concealer. They did all the heavy lifting!

This looks beautiful on you! Love it! Isn’t Estee Lauder Double Wear the best??
Karen says
Hi Erica,
It is SO good. I love both the original version and Double Wear Light (haven’t tried the new formulation yet though). I especially love how I can get away with skipping powder! I just do foundation and that’s it!
Erica says
I’ve only tried the original version, and it’s my go-to for formal events & really long days where I want my makeup to last. I have to put it on in very thin layers though since my skin is dry.

Such a pretty look! It looks great on you. I’m really digging the color of the UD liner.
Karen says
Thanks, Ruchita! I think this color would look amazeballs on your skin! Plus it’s kitty-approved (I asked Tabs and he doesn’t hate it).
Ruchita says
Yes, I love it when the kitties approve. Because I swear I’ve seen them roll their eyes at me sometimes. 🙂 Happy Thanksgiving Eve! Hope you have a great day.

I love this look on you! Xx
Karen says
Thanks, Christine. 🙂 Are you wearing anything fun/colorful today?
Happy early Thanksgiving!
Christine says
Not today! I am wearing my complete bareface because I woke up with a killer of a headache. But tomorrow I have some plans! I plan on trying some things for my holiday look. Yay!
Happy early Thanksgiving for you too!

I love this look on you so much. And I love that UD liner. I’m trying to make a quick pre-Thanksgiving de-stress stop at the mother ship later so I think I’m going to pick one up. I love electric teal.
What do you have on your lips?
Karen says
Thanks, Jennifer! Have fun shopping at My Home Away from Home, and let me know which teal you end up with. 🙂
On my lips I’m wearing an LE lipstick from the indie line Christian Audette. They recently did a collab with Rachel from The Beauty Professor Lipstick, and the shade is nude called Johanna. I topped it with a little bit of Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss in 166 Physical.
Happy Wednesday! How’s the Thanksgiving prep going?

It is a stunning look, and a welcome break from the warm brown eyeshadow rut I am currently in. The look reminds me of beach parties, dearly missed with our current freezing temperatures.
