Heya, friend. How’s it going? I miss you. Hope you’re doing well. I’m chugging along…albeit slowly and not very productively. I’m in the midst of a midweek malaise, perhaps tied to the fact that it’s cloudy and drizzling. 🙁
It’s as if I’ve completely forgotten how to function normally or something!
I hope to regain the gift of gab again soon, but while I continue to quietly work through it, please enjoy this bevy o’ lip swatches…
MAC Sweet Assortment: Retro Matte/Shiny Pretty Things (a $69.50 limited edition holiday set)
This is a limited edition holiday set (one of many) available at MAC right now. I like it because all of the Retro Mattes are full size.
Chanel La Palette Caractere Lip Palette ($60)
In the limited edition Chanel La Palette Caractere holiday palette, every color (with the exception of the darkest shade on the far right) is smooth and pigmented. That dark shade is a li’ll patchy, which, by the way, is my new rap name.
“Li’ll Patchy.”
Christian Audette X Beauty Professor Bundle ($60)
In this cute set of three limited edition lipsticks by my pal Rachel at Beauty Professor, all of the shades are nudes, and they lean warm, so if you have warm-toned or olive skin, you’re in luck!
How are things in your neck of the woods?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I really like the MAC ones, especially Oh Lady and So Me. I have my white artificial Christmas tree up and decorated. I’m glad it’s hump day and the week is downhill from here!
Karen says
The Retro Mattes are so good, Rachel! They can be a little tricky at first because you don’t need a lot of product at all, but once you get the application down they’re gorgeous.
Do you do white ornaments and lights to match your tree?
Rachel says
The tree is prelit with white lights, my ornaments are pink, purple, silver and blue! I want to get some hallmark ornaments when they go on clearance after Christmas. My mom has a huge collection and they are the cutest!
Rachel Runyan says
The Beauty Professor shades are really pretty.
Things are going OK here. I’m hoping to get my Christmas tree up this weekend. My metallic red one bit the dust. My brother has a brand new white one, so we’re going to use it, but most of my current ornaments are white, so I think I’m going to have to go shopping. I have no idea what color scheme I want. I was going to go gray and light blue and do a Game of Thrones “Winter is Coming”-themed tree, but I found out yesterday the tree is pre-lit with bright colored lights. So I don’t think that will work.
Karen says
A Winter is Coming themed tree would be SO COOL! Do you do different themes every year? I pretty much just stick to the same ornaments and lights.

I’ve been in a funk on and off lately too and one of my bright spots is reading your blog. I confess I rarely ever comment, but hey here’s to today and to breaking out of patterns. You’re wonderful and really appreciated! And holy cow, how are your lips after all of those swatches?!
Karen says
Hi Molly,
Thank you for saying that. I hope you (and I!) break outta the funk soon. BTW my lips are toast, LOL! I’m babying them today with some Hourglass Lip Oil. Have you ever tried it? It’s unfortunately $$$ but MAN it works.

Cloudy, grey and drizzling too, and the thought that it will most likely stay like this until March doesn’t make me any more motivated either…
I need more lipsticks to see me trough that!
kellly says
So I’m thinking instead of making sets that are supposed to be something for everyone, with always at least one color that looks horrible on me and I’d never use, why don’t companies make “warm colors for everyone” and “cool colors for everyone” and that way you get a set with every single one being something that won’t look somewhere between not quite good and OMG I need to give this one away right now! what was I thinking? Some of these are colors I’d love to have but then along with them are colors that I know with my eyes closed would look awful and I’d never use!
Fieran says
Love the Retro Matte shades on you so much! The others look good too, but the first set looks like it was made for you.
Sorry to hear about the midweek malaise. Hang in there, Karen! Sending lots of love to you and the little lady. Maybe a scoop of ice-cream and a good laugh might help? *Hug*
