I’ve been hesitant to post any FOTD’s lately because I don’t feel like the makeup I wear on a daily basis is fancy enough. Most of the looks I’ve been wearing are in the “five minute makeup range” these days, but ya know what? I figure I can’t be the only person out there who loves fast, fresh real-life looks. Like, I just got off a video call 15 minutes ago and this was the makeup I was wearing! Hello, real life. So here we go!
I want to call out a couple things. The lipstick is a workhorse liquid lipstick I love, Honest Beauty Liquid Lipstick in Goddess. If you’re into bright corals that light up your face in an instant, you need it in your life ASAP. It’s non-drying and totally comfy.
Another makeup item of note: for a quick hit of color on your cheeks, load up your blush brush with bronzer and blush. I just take my blush brush and dip it into both pans and then swirl the mix onto my apples. It’s the fastest way for me to get a good amount of color on my face without having to deal with layering and blending. Here I mixed Laura Mercier Blush in Rose with MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Give Me Sun.
I’m about to jump on my second video meeting of the day! How’s your Tuesday going?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Such a pretty glow! I’m going to try the blush and bronzer trick.
Karen says
Thanks, Karina! It’s one of my go-to quick makeup tricks. You can also combine any number of cheek products: blush with bronzer, blush with highlighter, bronzer with highlighter, etc.

Hi Karen – I am a makeup lover and with all of the time in the world I would indulge and do great eyes and lips and fancy bronzer, blush and highlights however … reality is I’m a 5 minute face girl. With a 2 hour commute each way to work and back I am on the road early and with weather in the minus 30s and 40s (Celsius) this last month and now January too I MUST dry the hair so makeup is quick quick quick. Thank you for the blush bronzer trick. That I will do tomorrow. Love your look – you are gorgeous in a 5 minute or 55 minute face look. And your kind, positive spirit shines right through. Have you tried MAC glow play balms? They are great look at Floral Coral or Grape Awakening I think it is. Great balm with decent coil out pay off too.
Karen says
Hi Vita,
Thanks for your sweet comment. 🙂
Wow, a two-hour commute each way! It happens often here in the Bay Area because it takes forever to get from one side of the bay to the other, especially when there’s a bridge involved. Do you listen to podcasts or audiobooks when you’re on the road?
Re: MAC Glow Play Balms. I’m a fan of the Glow Play Blushes, so I’m sure I will love the balms! Thanks for the recommendation — Floral Coral looks like something I’d love.

Haha, not great, I slept horribly and then skipped my morning walk, which has done me no favors.
But, I’ve avoided all video meetings thus far so there’s that!
Also, these are the tips that I absolutely need. I need inspiration for what I can do with five minutes because even if I have more time, I really don’t want to spend more time not with all the other morning things that have to be done.
This is such a cute look on you.
Thanks for the blusher and bronzer tip. However I’m such a pale face I’ll probably never use it.
Karen says
Ugh, I’m sorry you didn’t sleep well. I feel ya! When I’m at a certain time of the month, my sleep gets horribly disrupted, and I’m awake at the most ridiculous times in the early morning. Hopefully tonight you’ll get some rest.
Re: the mixing trick. You can do this with blush and highlighter, if that’s more your thing!

The braids are so good. I love a good Dutch braid.
Karen says
Thank you! 🙂 Next time I try it, I’m going to go for a French braid!

Yes, I’m all about the quick looks with two kids under 4! 😊 I can’t hardly remember what it feels like to be able to sit down and play with a look. Love this lip color though, I’m going to have to check it out! I’ve loved everything I’ve tried from Honest.
Karen says
They do really beautiful makeup! Keep doing your thing, mama. I know it’s not easy. 🙂
Carina says
Happy new year, Karen.
Please do not stop with your five minute fresh faces.
Ain‘t nobody time and/or energy for half an hour make up faces every frickin day.
I better look fresh in a short timeframe.
Thank you for your inspiring blog.
Best wishes, Carina

Thank you, Carina! This made me really happy. I’m glad there are other gals like me out there who like the real life looks!

Karen: that’s a beautiful look – and only 5 minutes! That is truly real-life. Thanks for the blending tip – especially the blush and highlight. My skin tone is pale. Has Rosie requested Cat TV yet? (She probably invented it!) Tilli and Tux are glued to the tv watching birds and squirells play. Very peaceful background noises, too.
Anne says
That is an absolutely stunning look, and to be honest, as much as I love makeup, I don’t have more than 5 minutes to spend on it in the mornings either.
Valerie says
You always look so beautiful- and I’m loving your natural hair color!
What is the design on your necklace? I can see a peek but want to see more! I love simple pieces that are unique.
