The New Dior 5 Couleurs Designer Eyeshadow All-In-One Professional Eye Palettes in Amber Design and Taupe Design: Why, Yes, Darling, These Palettes Are Designer

My posh feline pal/employer is currently going through a “shoo-shoo frou-frou” phase today where he insists that everything — and I mean everything! — within his kitty line of sight be high end, from the Dior ribbons he exercises with to the Dior 5-Couleurs Designer Eyeshadow I’m wearing.

He’s so fancy!

"I only play with Dior ribbons."
“Dior makes the best training ribbons.” -Tabs the cat

Since I know better than to protest (the consequences are always dire), all I can do is put up my paws in surrender, submit to his demands, paint my lids with one of these new $62 (!) palettes, and go on my merry way.

Amber Design and Taupe Design are two of Dior’s six recently revamped Dior 5-Couleurs Designer All-In-One Professional Eye Palettes available now online and at Dior counters.

If you’re into pearly, shimmery shadows and don’t mind the price, these might interest you.

The palettes are comprised of coordinating colors in what Dior calls “harmonies,” and each one includes a base powder eyeshadow to use as a lid primer, two powder eyeshadows, one sparkling highlight shade and a gel liner.

It’s like paint by numbers…

I like the liner… I think it’s pretty good, and the soft, almost creamy shadows remind me of mellower, less intense MAC Veluxe Pearl Eyeshadows.

The Dior shadows have a hazy, watercolor-like pigment payoff, which means that it’ll take a while to build them up if you’re going for shockingly vibrant. I’d probably only use them for luminous looks that don’t rely on intense shadows; otherwise, I’d be layering till Caturday, yo!

These are pretty pricey for sheer, pearly eyeshadow quints, but I don’t necessarily mind that they’re sheer (sometimes I want and like sheer). It’s just that for the price…it would have been nice to have the ability to go full-on glamazon without so much work, you know?

OK, gotta run. I hear my boss calling me… “Coming, sir! I’ll be right there with the Feline Greenies.” 🙂

PRICE: $62 each
AVAILABILITY: New, and available now online and at Dior counters in the Dior permanent line

I don’t love sheerness in a shadow that isn’t explicitly intended to be a highlight.

I have a few of the Dior 5 color (pied-de-poule and cuir cannage) I really like but for that price I’d want more versatility. Sheer can be nice but I’d rather just wear nothing.

Yeah, that’s my gripe with some Dior shadow releases. I don’t feel like they give me the glitz & glamor & disco pigment that I’m always going for. Again, cool if you’re looking to turn it down a notch, but for the price point, give me drama, or give me war =)

I swatched the Taupe in a store a couple weeks ago, and while I thought the colors were really lovely (that sparkly shade was glimmering beautifully), they’re really not as pigmented as I need my shadows to be. I’m also not sure I understand the choice the brand made in terms of shades: there’s like, 3 out of 6 of these palettes that are on the nude side, and that are probably impossible to distinguish once on the eye due to the sheerness of the shadows. Europe also has a Smoky Design that we don’t have here.

Tabs doesn’t settle for anything less than a Dior ribbon and me, well, I don’t settle for sheer, sorry! 😉 Seriously though, I like the colors but I’d want a little more intensity.

Lolol, they will love it. My kitties are Rosie, Boo, Hershal and Henry. All of them were strays, when no one claimed them, I did <3

You’re super lucky! I am trying to convince all the neighborhood kitties to come live at my house. So far my plan hasn’t been very successful. LOL!

They’re super pretty but definitely sheer in your FOTD. At least Dior is still producing top of the line ribbons. And we know that’s what’s important. 🙂

The $62 breaks down well in my book for each of the product. I have the amber quad and I love it. A favorite for my skintone (olive-medium – Nars St. Moritz). The only problem is that I find that the eyeliner wears off on me by the end of the day…:(

      Hi Cherie,

Glad to hear that you’ve had good luck with the Amber quad (with the exception of the liner). Perhaps try setting the liner with a powder shadow? It might help extend the wear time.

I’m going to have to try that. I usually just reach for another brown-black eyeliner but it is a waste of product since I don’t use the liner it comes with. I’m hitting the pan on two of the colors. I love these compacts and I like having the option of different colors. I’d like to try the Tom Ford nude palette next. I’ve read/heard great things about it, but that price tag is a little hump to get over. I’ve got it in my Nordie’s wish list….though I think after the anniversary sale I’m likely to have enough points to get it 😉 Thanks for the tip and have a good weekend!

I use that trick all the time when I want to set gel liners and get more wear time outta them! You can also try applying the eyeshadow wet if you want a more intense look. Let me know if you end up getting the Nude Dip palette. I’ve had it on my wish list for FOREVER but keep getting distracted by other things, LOL! What did you grab from the Anniversary sale?

Oh boy! I kinda went a little cray on my trip – I got the Nars bright lip set (it had Yu in the set and I thought, why not?) , Blame it on Nars blush palette, Hourglass eye and mascara set with a nude lip and Lorac skinny eyeshadow palette (only 15 bucks!). I had to stop myself from getting the MAC nude set and the Bobbi Brown pink dusk set….I’m contemplating getting the Bobbi Brown skin set as I’m in the market for a new moisturizer and eye cream since I’m just about out. It was definitely a treat-myself-like-a-queen kinda trip 🙂 Just glad it only happens once a year for my wallet’s sake!

I need to do that for the gel liners. I just put it on and go and by the end of my workday it smudges thanks to my oily eye-lids. I have a question for you – what eye primer would you recommend for oily lids?

The colors in the taupe palette are pretty and right up my alley. But I need shadows with pigment and that are easy to blend and work with. I haven’t got time to futz with my shadows in the morning.
