Fame Awaits Eyes and Lips With Smashbox Shades of Fame: Pictures and Swatches

May 3rd, 2012 by Karen 26 Comments

smashbox shades of fame

Smashbox has a thing for celebrity. Over the past year or so, they’ve featured film, photography and now straight-up fame, with the Smashbox Shades of Fame collection for summer 2012.

For eyes, there’s the $48 warm-toned Shades of Fame Eye Palette & Brush, with its nine powder shadows, two cream liners, a tiny tube of Photo Finish Lid Primer, dual-tipped eye brush and a tutorial booklet with step-by-step instructions to create three different looks.

And lips get love, too, with the $28 Shades of Fame Reflection High Shine Lip Gloss Set and its five frisky travel-size glosses in Candy, Buff, Hibiscus, Papaya and Star.

Star… Candy, a movie buff, wore a hibiscus in her hair when she accepted the Academy Award for her performance in Papaya Star.

LOL! Everyone wants to be a star. 🙂

Both sets are available now at Sephora stores and also online.

Here’s a closer look at spring’s Shades of Fame…

It looks like both sets offer a pretty mainstream mix of summery shades, so if you’ve been collecting makeup for a while, you may already have some of these colors in your stash.

I’m really hoping fallout won’t be an issue when I take the eye palette out for a test drive this weekend. The past few limited edition Smashbox palettes I’ve played with lately made a bit of a mess (had to do a lot of cleanup on my lower lash lines and cheeks).

Fingers crossed.

Bitten by the travel bug

Ouch! It itches! — and the only thing that soothes it is cruising travel sites for discounts on airfare and hotels…

I know I just got back from a trip, but I told myself while I was there to hurry up and make plans to take another trip at some point in the future, just to have something fun to look forward to.

I’m thinking maybe Tahoe, or Hearst Castle. Tabs says Hearst Castle is a lot of fun (he went once on a kitties-only excursion).

Do you have any trips planned this summer? I’d love to hear about them. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I swatched this in Sephora the other day and I was IMPRESSED! The colours are so gorgeous and were so vibrant & pigmented on my skin. The powders were so soft, too. Unfortunately Sephora was sold out of it. Hopefully I’ll be able to get my hands on one :).

I bought this palette about a month ago and LOVE it! I’ve had no issues with fallout on any of the shades and my only disappointment has been that Safari is less green than I would’ve liked. Sherbert and Honey are by far my favorite shades and I can honestly say that the shadow primer trumps UD for me as far as making my shades really pop. Not to mention it has been easier to remove too.

    Total thumbs up!

I heard that Smashbox changed the forumula of their eyeshadows. I hope you’ll be able to share good things about the performance (longevity, creasing, etc), texture, and blendability of these shadows.

Going to northern cali for a friend’s wedding this summer! And she picked out such pretty bridesmaid dresses, can’t wait! 🙂

Thought I would like this palette more…I think it’s too warm for my coloring and taste.

Oh I hope there won’t be any fallout, because some of these shades are more than interesting (Safari is definitely my thing )! I wouldn’t know what to do with 5 lipglosses though. I’m not really a gloss kind of girl!

This looks like a gorgeous eye palette! I have yet to try any Smashbox powder shadows, but I love their new Limitless Cream Shadows. Might have to give this one a nice swatcheroo next time I’m in Sephora 🙂

Uhm. Yes. I walked out with 2 NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils (one of them is Never Say Never, finally!!!) and one NARS lipstick (Roman Holiday). Safe to say im on a NARS (and hopefully Smashbox) kick lately!

Nice mini haul! I’ve yet to pull the trigger on Roman Holiday, although I’ve swatched and lusted after it many a time!

Oh, and I just put on the Smashbox eyeshadows and they’re very promising. Hardly any fall out and soooo pigmented on my lids, yay. 🙂

Id have to admit that Roman Holiday was a wee bit scary in the tube but on the lips, its soft and pretty, which is a great change from all the bright lippies ive been wearing lately. 🙂

Yay for no fallout – def a plus!

      Hi GIGI,

The lipglosses come in some cute colors, but the travel size tubes could be bigger.

The packaging looks cute! Love the color of the packaging! Darn, I was at Sephora the other day, but didn’t swatch it. I gotta go back and check this palette out.

I seem to be bitten with the travel bug myself. I’m thinking about somewhere else in the Caribbean! Been to Barbados last year and that was superb!

      Hi Naomi,

Barbados is on my list of places to visit. Where did you stay, and what activities do you recommend?

I discovered on a recent road trip to the mountains, I live in Florida, that I just don’t travel well. I destination just fine, its getting there that is so hard on me. Flying or driving.

We are going to our annual labor Day trip to Disney world resort area! It’s an awesome trip, we are staying at the Polynesian this year and planning to attend the luau this year!

      Hi Kiwikiwidragon,

I know what you mean. Getting to and from a place can be really rough. Sometimes I wish I could just teleport to my destination.

Anywho, so excited for your trip to the Disney Resort, especially for the luau. I went to one a few years ago and had a ton of fun. Plus, there’s the food, NOM! 😀 What made you guys decide to stay at the Polynesian this year?

these are soooo pretty! For some reason, I haven’t really paid Smashbox any attention in a long, long time. Everything I do have from them, I like but I just don’t get super excited about their collections. THIS one though, is beautiful! I am definitely going to go check these out this weekend! Love the gold, bronze, and browns with that gorgeous teal and peach!

Don’t really like the eyeshadow palette but the lipgloss I am loving. I am pretty much going to relax this summer. Nothing planned on my end.

I wonder how the olive green in this palette would compare with the beautiful olive green eye shadow in Hourglass’ Dune duo. I just might have try them eye to eye.
