I totally didn’t expect this look to end up so glittery and pink, but hey, it’s Friday, so might as well, right?
I’m using the new Rare Beauty products I picked up earlier this week! As you can see, the Discovery Eyeshadow Palette in True to Myself leans very warm. Not my usual style as of late (I’ve been really into cool tones), but I’m having fun with it.
Did you notice the variety of intensity in the eyeshadows? The two darkest shades (the matte reddish brown and the matte plum) are on the sheerer side, which I don’t mind, because it makes it easier for me to control the level of intensity.
I find that as I get wiser in years, I have to be much more careful when I wear darker shadows; if the shadows go too dark and intense, my hooded lids appear heavier. So, I gotta go easy, and build that color slowly, steadily!
It’s a rainy, overcast day here in Marin county, so I’m happy to be wearing sparkles. 🙂
I hope your Friday is going great so far!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. TGIF!

Sparkles do make a dull Friday a more special day indeed!! The warm tones do look nice with your hair colour and somehow compliment the “sparkly whites” as I like to call my greys.
We are freezing out here in Alberta with minus 28 Celsius as highs with windchills hovering at best at minus 30 and don’t even ask about the lows. BUT … warm up coming so I am going to take a lesson from you and toss on some sparkle over my lunch break – making is a real TGIF kinda day.
I forgot to reply about my commute and what I listen to and I do listen to podcasts but more often audio books. I love the idea of learning from non fiction books but rarely get in to them and finish them in anywhere near timely fashion but I am really good at listening to them so that’s they type I’m most often in to. I am on an autobiography kick right now and listening to Trevor Noah’s Born a Crime. It is really interesting. I would love podcast recommendations if anyone has any good ones. I’m out of search ideas for new ones
Hope you have a great end of the day and wonderful weekend.

Hi Vita,
I can’t imagine how it must feel to be in that type of cold. We went to Lake Tahoe in November and it was in the 30s; I swear I could feel the cold in my booty bones!
RE: makeup. What kind of glitter are you going to use? I think I might just put more on for the fun of it, HAHAHA!
Funny you should mention podcasts, because I’ve been looking around for some to listen to as well. I started one called “Unf*ck Your Brain” which is hosted by Kara Loewentheil, who is a “confidence coach.” It’s OK so far. I used to listen to the one by Allure called The Science of Beauty (I think that’s the name), and I remember liking it.
What are your plans for the weekend? Anything exciting?
Vita says
Hahaha booty bones. I like that. It’s so true!
I put on some dazzleshadow in tickled pink I think it is from Mac and that is on top of a base of Sunrise cream eyeshadow by Laura Mercier. I always like that one to brighten up my eyes/face.
I am going up to my brothers who is a few hours north of us to visit him and his new son (4 weeks yesterday) and his older son who is 22 months and started day care this week. I love my nephews and any chance to see them I grab at. My other brother lives there too and my mom is helping with the babies so she is there for now. One of my sisters in law wants to make dinner for me so we can celebrate my bday next week. I was thrilled and thought that was so kind.
Otherwise some decluttering must be done – it’s driving me a little crazy!
I will check out those podcasts. If you like murder mysteries try Serial and Sh*t Town. They are good. Especially Sh*t Town.

The Dazzleshadows are fun! So are the Dazzleglasses. Sometimes you just need a little (or a lot) of sparkle.
Have so much fun visiting with your family, and happy early birthday to you! 🙂 I hope there is cake involved in the celebration!
Also, thanks for the podcast recommendations, although they sound kinda scary to me, eek! I’m a ‘fraidy cat and can’t handle anything too dark.

Hi Karen,
Do you have tips on building up sheer eyeshadows? Do you use a brush and if so, which one?
Karen says
I usually end up layering something underneath (like the liquid shadow I used in this look), or I just use a brush like the MAC 217 to layer and blend. 🙂 You can also wet your brush beforehand with something like MAC Fix+ if you want to intensify the color quickly.
Syahidah says
I’ve tried wetting my brush but find it’s easier to wet my fingers instead 🤭 Do you find it affects the eyeshadow pan if I use them wet? I’m new to powder shadow and feel like such a noob. Thank you Karen 🤗

I love the sparkly rose shadow, it looks like spring, which is what I crave after Christmas being over.

I love the pink and sparkly look. It’s very springy, which is quite welcome since I never saw it get over -8 F yesterday, without wind chill. Thankfully, it seems like a one-day cold spell. High of 20 today. I know, you’re feeling it in your butt bones, just reading this. HAHA!
