Go Crazy Bold with Make Up For Ever Faux Lashes

February 10th, 2009 by Karen 21 Comments

Don’t pull any punches this Valentine’s Day, and GO FOR THE BOLD! Try on a pair of crazy bold false lashes like Make Up For Ever’s Alexandra Faux Lash ($15). Her thick black fringe and dramatic length demand your full attention.

I did this look with Alexandra yesterday, pairing her with demure pink cheeks and a strong red lip.

If you’re hitting the clubs with friends on The Big V, this could be a fun look to wear. It’s playful and says to the world, “Hey, ya’ll! You can’t stop this love machine!”

The key to the look is the lashes — the bigger the better. Here I’m wearing Make Up For Ever, but you might also look at falsies from other brands like Shu Uemura, Revlon or Ardell.

  1. Aqua Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil in #0L, $17: matte black eyeliner
  2. Smoky Lash Mascara, $22: black mascara
  3. Faux Lash Alexandra #110, $15: dramatic false lashes with lash glue
  4. Sculpting Blush #8, $24: matte, bright pink blush
  5. Aqua Lip Pencil in #8, $17: true red lip liner
  6. Lipstick #205, $18: bluish red lipstick
  7. Mist & Fix Make-Up Fixer Mist, $27: makeup fixing spray

Eyes: Not to steal anything away from the lashes, I kept the eyes simple, starting by lining my upper and lower lash lines with (1) Aqua Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil in #0L. Then, I curled my lashes and applied two coats of (2) Smoky Lash Mascara. Finally, I glued (3) Faux Lash Alexandra lashes on my upper lash line, aligning the shorter end of the lashes with the inner corner (the side closest to my nose).

Lips: For long wearing-lips, I started with a waterproof base by lining and filling them in with (5) Aqua Lip Pencil in #8. Then, I layered (6) Lipstick #205 directly on top.

Cheeks: I wanted simple pink cheeks to offset the bold lips and lashes, so I swept on two layers of (4) Sculpting Blush #8.

Face: To finish and set everything in place, I spritzed my face twice with (7) Mist & Fix Make-Up Fixer Mist.

Swatches from left to right: Smoky Lash Mascara, Sculpting Blush #8, Lipstick #205, Aqua Lip Pencil #8C, Aqua Eyes Eyeliner #0L

I had some trubs with the lashes… I’m think I’m still getting the hang of ’em, but they’re so much fun to practice with. 🙂

Whaddya think?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

The lashes are just a little too much. I’m more of the natural looking faux lashes fan. They look so creepy!

    Hi Kate,

It’s definitely a bold look. Granted, I wouldn’t wear this to work, but I think it’s fun to push the boundaries sometimes. 🙂

it’s great how you love makeup with a passion, i love seeing you try different things. sometimes i think i should try crazy lashes at least once in my life. i will purchase a mufe’s sculpting blushes one day, i swatched them at the store and they are super pigmented. i just don’t like their packaging, i think for the price, i should at least get a mirror.

Love the graphics! Not so much the lashes. They’re way too intense for me. I think just having faux lashes on adds enough of an extra punch to the eyes, no need for huge ones.

Do you like the Make Up Forever lashes? I started off with Mac Lashes and have found Mac’s to be a lot easier to put on. Make Up Forever’s thinner lashes would twist up on me and do all kinds of crazy stuff.

Very fun! I love how you took several shots and angles, normally the makeup companies only seem to show pics of OTT lashes with the model looking downward or with closed eyes! I have to say, I’m fancying a tamer fringe, maybe some of those lush lashes that only go on the outer corner! I wanna rock a set though! 🙂

    Hi Victoria,

The best part about crazy looks is that you can always take them off when you’re done! You should totally try on a crazy pair just for fun. 🙂

    Hi Rena,

I’m pretty new to false lashes and they’re all equally challenging to me. Do you wear them often?

    Hi YadiQ,

Oh no! I hope that it wasn’t too bad. At least it’s almost over. Are you hitting up the gym tonight? I bet you’ll feel better after your workout. 🙂

LOL… I think El Hub is used to nuttiness, ha!

    Helloo,

I wear them every time I go out for a night of fun! I think they work amazingly with smokey eye makeup because it darkens the eyes even more. You can try Mac Lashes number 3s. They’re my favorite, though I bought some new ones I’ve yet to try from one of the Mac collections. I’ve always had to trim some of the lashes off to fit my eyes, but after that, I use them for quite a while. Its sturdy, so you can rip off dried glue without damaging the lashes. The only caution is to not get them wet or they’ll fall out of their pattern and get kinda frayed. I noticed the clear rubber part that hold the lashes are a little thicker for macs, which is why they can hold their shape when you’re putting them on (as opposed to make up forever’s thinner band). I find lashes so addicting!

Ha! Did I ever send you a pic of me from my last birthday? With the lashes with the silver glitter along the lash line? Let me know if not and I’ll send a couple! 😉

I’d love to try fake lashes, but I’m pretty sure I’d make a mess of applying them myself! I think I’d have to get someone else to do it.

    Hi Rena,

I will have to get a few more MAC pairs. 🙂 I have one that pair that I used for Halloween and although I remember them being kinda challenging to wear for a few hours I really liked how they made my eyes pop.

    Hi Briana,

I make a huge mess! But hey, at least the glue is transparent. I think what I usually do is I put too much on there… I’m still working out the process. If/when I get better at it I’ll be sure to share some tricks. 🙂
