Pearl Particles Collide (BAM!) to Create a Whole Mess o’ Glitter in the MAC Veluxe Pearlfusion Shadows, Coming June 20 to the Permanent Line

What do you get when you put pearls in a particle accelerator?

I’ll tell you what you get — undersea oysters solving nuclear fusion equations, Ford Fusions with strands of pearls dripping from their rear-view mirrors, fusion cuisine that combines Asian flavors, and knitting (and purling!).

In other words, awesomeness. You get a whole lot of awesomeness. 🙂

You may also get MAC, as in the six new MAC Veluxe Pearlfusion Shadow palettes ($40 each) in MAC’s newest eye shadow formulation to join the permanent line. Powder shadows that feel like creams, they can be worn dry for a soft, sparkling finish, or wet for something shiny and metallic.

Lawd, I think I may have accidentally inhaled a little too much stray glitter playing with these palettes… The stuff was flying all over the place!

It was kind of weird, truth be told.

I expected these, with their soft, creamy texture, to glide effortlessly across my skin and blend together with a few swift swipes, and most of them did just that. With the palettes comprised primarily of satins and metallics, like Smokeluxe, Brownluxe and Greenluxe, I didn’t have any trubs at all. They were coo’.

When I applied Brownluxe, my heart skipped as I watched the shadow skate across my skin. My 217 barely had to do any work to smooth away every last line.

I actually had to stop myself from over-blending, as the colors melted together like good fondue.

Mmm, cheese…

As for glittery shadows, like the ones in the Pastelluxe palette, those deceived me a little. Apparently, their grande glitter flecks didn’t like my brush because glitter ended up all over the place! On my shirt, pants, cheeks.

I’m usually totally down with glitter, but in this case, I think there’s just a little too much of it (yes, I guess there is such a thing), and it’s not easy to control.

I’ll take another crack at it this week to see if I can make it work. I plan to test the individual palettes for wear time and to learn their quirks, but based on Brownluxe, so far, so good. Six hours in, and I still see lots of color and shine.

Don’t really see a lot of creasing, either.

The six palettes join MAC’s permanent collection on June 20 (although they are available now online if you can’t wait).

More looks and updates over the next few days. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. I hope you had a nice Monday. No complaints out here. I was able to try a few new recipes today, a tuna and egg omelet for breakfast, a whole wheat chicken wrap (I subbed faux meat for the chicken) for lunch and a chia and berry pudding for my afternoon snack.

They were all really yummy, too, and not even hard to make.

I should’ve taken pictures, but I was too hungry to stop, LOL!

Hm…pretty but not sure if this is for me. I still will give it a swatch at the counter when I’m next there though but I suppose I’m in no rush. Pretty on you, though (of course!)

      Hi Savannah,

Thank you. 🙂 I’m wearing Too Faced Cosmetics! That’s Cocoa Rose Blush on my cheeks and Mocha Freeze Gloss on my lips.

I do really like Brownluxe, but the chunks of glitter in other palettes scare me quite a bit!

I actually kind of like Pastelluxe, but I still don’t know how worth it they are.

Yeah, it’s okay. I like it more wet than dry, I’ve discovered.

      Hi Amber,

Brownluxe — a great choice! I want to wear it again today, but I need to take another palette out for a spin.

Hope you’re having a nice Tuesday so far! 🙂

Happy Tuesday! These palettes with their thin, monochromatic(ish), horizontal lines remind me of something that I can’t quite put my finger on. It’ll drive me insane all day. 🙂

I volunteered for field day at the kids’ school yesterday (just a fun day where groups move from “game” station to station). This is their last week before summer vacay. Remember those good times?

      Hi Kim,

Happy Tuesday to you too. Hmm, maybe you’re thinking of the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks? Or those baked rainbow palettes from Milani?

Oh, I used to LOVE this time of year. What are the boys doing for summer vacay? Are they going to summer school or camp?

        Yes, maybe that’s it!

They’ll be home with a sitter so I’m sure they’ll be spending their day time in the pool and playing with their friends. We only have a 1 week hockey camp this year, but they will have 3 weeks of swimming lessons (week days) and, of course, baseball and lacrosse in the evenings. No rest for the wicked (parents). 🙂

How about you guys? Any more trips/long weekend getaways on the horizon?

      Hi Bree,

It’s really pretty! I took a macro shot of it yesterday and couldn’t stop staring at it. 🙂 Do you think you might pick it up?

      Have a nice Tuesday!

These look so pretty in the pan, but seem a bit shiny/chunky.

I do love the Brownluxe though.

I was hoping these would have the kind of buttery texture that the regular line Veluxe Pearl eye shadows have! The fall out is disappointing! I’d still check out Brownluxe at counters, the colors look good 🙂

I bought the smoke luxe palette and I love it. It’s unlike anything else in my collection. I wore the top 3 shades today and it made my eyes sparkle beautifully yet they were still defined. You know how you find a gorgeous color but its lousy at giving your eyes definition? Not this time 🙂 I’m quite impressed. I might just go and get brownluxe now …

I’m obsessed with blue eyeshadow right now, I have way too much Naked and neutral eyeshadow. Blueluxe looks gorgeous but it might be too sparkly and bright. I’ve been looking at Laura Mercier’s Summer in St Tropez quad. I may have to go check out blueluxe in person.
