Makeup and Beauty Blog Saturday Steals

October 18th, 2008 by Karen 33 Comments

I took my near-sighted self out to Costco today for some new contact lenses and scanned the beauty aisles for deals.

What do you think of Lancome Bi-Facil eye makeup remover, on sale for $19.99 (that’s 25% off the regular retail price of $26)? This stuff removes even the most stubborn eye makeup and has been a favorite of mine for years.

Costco also had Guerlain Le 2 De Guerlain Mascara in black for $19.99. The boxy, clear plastic packaging Costco uses isn’t flattering for cosmetics, but with this same mascara selling for $35 at Sephora (45% more), I’m going to cut Costco some slack.

And how about this cute three piece body care gift set by J.R. Watkins? In old-fashioned packaging, the set comes in two fragrances — mango and lemon cream — and includes a hand and body lotion, shea butter body cream and a hand and cuticle salve.

I thought this was so cool: each box has a scratch and sniff sticker! Cute, yah?

After Costco, I dragged poor El Hub to Sephora and parked him on a bench in front of the store while I got my makeup swerve on. 🙂

What do you think of the Too Faced The Quickie Chronicles Mini Collection ($59.10)? It features eight mini-palettes with coordinating eyeshadows and cheek and lip shades. These are just too cute!

My favorites were Temptress and Cupcake…

I wanted to leave Sephora empty handed because the contact lenses from Costco had already put a big dent in my wallet, but I couldn’t resist this Cat Eyes Liner in Black Onyx ($16; a shimmery deep black with subtle blue flecks) by Pop Beauty and a bottle of Sephora by OPI nail polish in Metro Chic ($9; a plum-gray creme).

One of the counter girls at Sephora showed me how to use the liner. I’m gonna try a tutorial with it in the next couple days. That should be fun.

How was your Saturday? Do you know of any good makeup/beauty sales out there right now?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

That Costco rocks. The one by my house (in the Valley) doesn’t have as much fun stuff.

Save your $$ as the Sephora FF coupon is coming out in November. I can’t wait. You get a 20% discount. Woot woot!

There’s a Caudalie Vino Radiance gift set at Sephora for 100 bucks right now. It’s an amazing deal because the Vino Radiance serum alone is usually 80 bucks, but this comes with the serum plus Beauty elixir, a day cream and a night cream. It’s an amazing skincare brand!

i love those too faced palettes. i think they’re great for christmas gifts because i have a lot of female cousins and friends and if you think about it, they’re only about 7 dollars a piece. and cousins don’t really need big gifts. i just hope they’re not sold out by the time my budget lets me get them. oh and they have great burghese (is that how it’s spelled?) brushes at costco near where i live. and perfumes/colognes for $45! marc jacobs, vera wang and viktor and rolf are among the stacks of fragrances.

Holy packaging Batman! Costco wastes so much it’s silly. I too was at Sephora today and saw those adorable Too Faced eyeshadows. I wanted to buy EVERYTHING just because of the damn cute packaging! But I resisted and instead bought what I came for which was: My LIFELINE, Urban Decay Primer & Benefit Speed Brow and a couple items I didn’t need – Urban Decay Rockstar eyeliner and Urban Decay Big Fatty Mascara. Yay for me! 🙂

Shhhhuuttt uppppp! That’s amazing! The Mascara is about £26 in the UK ($52) and the Bifacial is £18 ($34). Grrrr. There’s Costco in the UK but I wonder if it would have as many beauty goodies.

The Two Faced mini palettes are great gifts for cousins, colleagues, and cute people who want gifts. I think Sam’s Club need to step up a little, their cosmetics selection is currently set at zero 🙂

I wish we had Cosco here, sounds like you can get great deals there! I’ve been lemming that mascara for ages but it is so expensive here! Can’t wait to hear what you think about it.

    Hi Jessica,

When you break down the price that way it’s totally reasonable. If I had more younger cousins I’d do the same thing!

    Hi Vampyvarnish,

A lot of people love the UDPP, but alas, it just doesn’t work for me.

Glad to hear about your haul, though! Sounds like you’ll have lots of makeup fun this week. 🙂

    Hi Karen B.,

It’s hard to live with the constant temptation, LOL.

I painted my toes last night and I really like the shade.

Oh, a few comments back I put up a swatch of Lunch at the Delhi! It’s very pretty!

    Hi Rowena,

Yeah, I think each store carries different merchandise. Is it far from you? Maybe you can call and ask them if they have a beauty section.

    Hi Yadiq,

I don’t own any, but I’ve been tempted by them before. They are *very* shimmery and have a decent pay off. They remind me of Dior, but slightly more gritty.

I know, I can’t believe it’s Sunday. Can we get another day of, please?!?!

Hey, when do you leave for your trip?

    Hi Dao,

Aw, that sucks! I hear that Sam’s has lots of other deals on regular stuff though (hey, I can always justify buying 30 rolls of toilet paper).

    Hi Gio,

I didn’t end up buying it! I made myself walk outta there because I had to get the contacts (ugh). Sometimes I think I should just get Lasik and get it all over with. Anyway, they only had black, which is fine, but I would probably want it in another shade. I promised myself that if I am still lemming it in two weeks I can go back and get it. 🙂

Hope you are having a fab weekend!

Sure! I think the store just got the shipment in, as there were quite a few bottles. I was surprised to see it, cause whenever I go it’s MIA!

WOW, US costco is real good with those awesome stuffs. We in Canada aren’t that lucky except I spotted Neutrogena 4 pack for $25CAD and now $15.99CAD for Covergirl 3-pack (2 lashblasts and a LinExact liner) – not exactly cheap.

BTW, can a Candian holder of a Costco membership be allowed in US Costco? thanks for keeping us informed!

Hmm, I dunno off the top of my head. Maybe call or stop by the customer service desk when you are there next? Random question — do they sell hot dogs and pizza at the Canadian Costcos?

Good for you for resisting, I wouldn’t have been able too. If I saw this at a reduced price I would definitely get it straight away.

Hey, Karen, yeah, we Canadian costco sells pizza, hot dog, burger, drinks outside the register checkout. US doesn’t have it? I never thought of buying them but it’s time to try on my next trip. 🙂

Hey Karen! I know I am super late commenting on this post, lol. Life has been so crazy, I haven’t been able to keep up with your blog, so I’m trying to catch up! I have tried one of those two-faced palettes before, and i was really disappointed by the quality – I ended up giving it away. Also, that cat eye liner is on the top of my sephora wish list! I am trying to hold out for friends and family, and it’s been hard, lol. I can’t wait to hear what you think of it!
