The Latest From Nudestix for Holiday 2014: Makeup Pens and Pencils for Casual Convenience

October 31st, 2014 by Karen 24 Comments

Nudestix Lip Pen in Bare Matte
Wearing the new Nudestix Lip Pen in Bare Matte ($24) and the #GILTYLOVE Holiday Kit ($49), available now at Sephora

Eaack! What was that?! Did you see it? I thought I saw something behind me…

Oh, well. Never mind. I guess it’s gone. 🙂

I was just about to tell you how much I like Nudestix, an upstart makeup line out of Toronto. I like how all of their stuff seems, I dunno, kind of unstructured and casual.

A quick swipe here, a little pat there and some blending with a fingertip, and voila! You’re done. But you still look like you put in some effort.

With these pieces on your lids and lips, no one will mistake you for something that just fell off a vegetable truck and rolled to the side of the road (an issue that plagues me often).

It’s makeup to wear while you’re lounging next to a fireplace, sipping hot cocoa in a button-up flannel, leggings and a cozy scarf, perhaps also with some fuzzy Yeti slipper-boots, which your cat will hate with a passion (of course). In other words, it’s casual makeup.

Nudestix Gilty Love Holiday Kit
#GILTYLOVE Holiday Kit, $49

For their first holiday collection ever, they’ve released a limited edition $49 set of three Magnetic Eye Colors called #GILTYLOVE. (Did you just say “hashtag” out loud? Because I totally did.)

The artwork on the tin, which houses three full-size creamy pencil eyeshadows in shimmery taupe Twilight, peachy gold Gilt and matte black Night, is by Canadian artist Jessica Gorlicky.

I like to use these pencils as accents. Like here, for depth and nuance, I’ve applied Twilight (the taupe) on my lower lash lines, Night on my water lines and Gilt on my brow bones and in the inner corners. (Side note: I’m wearing Giorgio Armani Orient Excess palette on my lids, and that’s LORAC Front of the Line Pro Line Liquid Eyeliner in Navy on my lash lines.)

The $49 tin (a $72 value) is available now exclusively at Sephora stores and online.

The tin is joined by a new line of eight $24 Lip Pens (four matte, four gloss), but these are bound for the Nudestix permanent collection. Like the tin, they’re available now online and at Sephora stores.

Nudestix Lip Pens
Nudestix Lip Pens in Bare Matte and Nudity Gloss, two of eight shades, $24 each

I’ve been using two of them, sheer brown Nudity Gloss and matte pinkish brown Bare Matte, with the latter feeling airy and light on my lips, which I like, but it also catches every little flaky bit…

Blast you, dry lips!

Nudestix Lip Pen Gloss
Nudestix Lip Pen in Nudity Gloss

As for Nudity, I’m a fan (haha). I like the non-sticky texture and glossy, high-shine finish.

Bare and Nudity

With both pens, which smell faintly of vanilla, I can feel a very subtle tingling sensation right after application. It fades over about 10 minutes.

Have you tried any Nudestix products before? If you have, what did you think?

Happy Halloween! Let’s celebrate by napping…

Last night was my first run since the half-marathon two weeks ago, and it was just a short, slow one. My back had been aching, but it felt good enough again to work off some of the candy I plan to devour today and tonight, hehe.

After all, someone has to finish the last of the Fun-Size Snickers from the bag I allegedly bought for the trick-or-treaters tonight. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Boo!

P.P.S. TGIF!

Happy Halloween to you and to Tulip! Snickers is my fave out of all the Halloween candies, with Milky Way a close second. I’m all about the caramel.

How are you today? Are you enjoying this rainy weather?

I’m at work and looking out the window where it’s gloomy and rainy. Although, they were giving out free ghost cookies in the cafeteria. I’m trying not to eat too much sugar.

The scene outside my window is gray and wet, too. I haven’t been outside yet (too cold!) but will be venturing out for dinner — pizza, probably. I hope the rain doesn’t keep the trick-or-treaters from visiting this years! I need some kids to admire the oversized black cat on my door, LOL.

Are people at your office dressed up today?

Although it’s raining, it’s not really cold outside. Pizza sounds yummy. We had a Halloween party at work so there were people dressed up and there was Costco pizza at the party. I have a black cat shirt and cat ears on.

I love the eyeshadow pencils. They would be perfect for when I need to get ready in a hurry. Which may or may not be every weekday. 🙂

    TGIF and Happy Halloween!

No costume yet! We’re leaving straight from work to to go the party, so I’ll have to get someone to take my picture there. And I’ll see if I can grab Nina and take a selfie when we get home. She might be a bit grumpy because we’ll be getting home past their dinnertime!

Oh, no. The kitties surely will be ready to riot! I’m sure it’s nothing a little gravy can’t fix. 🙂

Did you end up making cupcakes? Happy Halloween!

I know! I feel bad, but I gave them some extra crunchies this morning. 🙂 I did make some mini pumpkin cupcakes. The dollar store had the cutest Halloween themed cupcake liners, so I really wanted to use them. 🙂

Food = love in the language of cats! 🙂

Yay for pumpkin cupcakes. If you lived closer I would volunteer to be your cat sitter and your official cupcake taste tester.

Have fun at the party tonight. Is your hubs dressing up, too?

That would be awesome! I love to share my sweet treats and cats. 🙂

My husband just got a funky wig and these glasses with a big nose and fuzzy eyebrows. The kids that came trick or treating last night seemed to get a kick out of it! Speaking of which, we ran out of candy and I had to make an emergency run to the store!

      Hi Niki T,

I like that one too, especially on the lower lash line.

What items have you tried from this line?

If this is what you look like when you are just casually sipping hot chocolate next to the fireplace, I am impressed.
Those creamy eyeshadow pencils call out to me. When shopping my stash I rediscovered one of MACs shadowsticks I had totally forgotten and fell in love again. It is just so quick and easy, although that one is creasing on me.
How about those? Do they stay put?

    Happy Halloween.

Those MAC sticks are great. I used one of them from Rocky Horror about a week ago and remembered why I liked them so much wnen they first came out. They make for easy smoky eyes.

Have you tried the ones from Laura Mercier, the Caviar Stick Eye Colours? Those are fabulous. I have a few and love them.

So, with Nudestix, I’ve found that they work best for me when I use only a little bit, and I don’t layer the product. The moment I start layering, things start to crease. So I usually end up wearing them as accent shades, or just as a quick wash of color.

Happy Halloween to you, too! 🙂

I bought one of the Nudestix magnetic eye pencils after your blog review. I love it and it was great on my trip to San Diego. I love the tin too although I feel like if I keep buying their stuff, I will accumulate way too many of them.

I might need to pick up one of the lip pens! I just need to decide on a color! I am glad you covered them here on the blog!

    Happy Halloween!

      Hi Elena,

Funny you should mention the tin, because I noticed yesterday that mine are starting to pile up, LOL. I’m trying to think of a way to repurpose them. If I figure something out I will let you know. 🙂

Happy Halloween to you too! What are your plans for the evening?

        Hi Karen,

I worked til 7 so I just came home and I am relaxing! No big plans. I am a homebody and don’t mind staying at home. I stocked up at Whole Foods on Annie’s bunny snacks and fruit snacks and some Endangered species chocolate (all of these are packaged for halloween for trick or treaters but I am keeping it all for me!!! lol).

And the tins are great for travel! I took it with some of my go to pencils and even lip pencils and this and that and it was handy for my trip! I wonder how cost effective it is to have a tin with every single product. Either way, I do like it!

I love the gloss swatch! I might have to order it! I have enough (for now) matte lip products. Although that was the exact color I was looking at online. So happy you did swatches!!

The pencils look really nice! I’m really digging how intense the black one is. I’m also loving how Nudity looks on you too. I wish it didn’t catch on flakes though. The color is so perfect!

I’m really intrigued by this brand. Mainly the lip pencils, though. Honestly, the price isn’t worth it just for accents, and I can achieve a wash of colour or a casual look with traditional shadows, and probably do it better. The colours seem pretty dupable too. I will still check these out though, still caught my attention! Who knows, might fall in love with something 🙂
