Sonia Kashuk Super Shimmering Highlighter: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star

March 26th, 2011 by Karen 15 Comments

So maybe you’re craving one of the new liquid highlighters from NARS or Make Up For Ever but aren’t feeling the $28-30 price. If you’re in bargain beauty mode and want a similar look for less, check out the new $9.99 Sonia Kashuk Super Sheer Shimmering Highlighter on your next trip to Target.

Available in a single warm peachy gold, it’s a shimmery liquid highlighter designed to be worn either alone or mixed with foundation or lotion to give your skin a subtle twinkle like sunset light on sand. I’d characterize the level of pigment as half way between the super sheer NARS Illuminators and the crazy pigmented Make Up For Ever Uplights.

And oh, the glitter! The flecks are so deliriously fine and tiny that even though it’s been cold and rainy here, I’ve been mixing a few pumps into my body lotion and applying it to my arms. When the light hits my skin just right, I look like a little brown angel. 🙂

Unfortunately, this is the only shade in the line, but if you like the way you look in warm peachy golds, you might want to give it a try. I have a feeling this shimmery delectable will look great with a tan!

PRICE: $9.99
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Target stores; coming soon to target.com
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A- (I would love to see a wider selection of colors)

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I love when you can find similar products to high end ones for a much lower price. I’ve been looking for a highlighter that doesn’t make me look like a disco ball, but I wish this one cameon a pink or another cooler color. Do you think MAC Strobe that you reviewed earlier would be a good choice for someone just starting to use highlighters?

    O. M. G. I had NO idea Sonia Kashuk made a highlighter.. I just totally ran out of the Benefit one I’d been nursing for like a year now. Since I’m on a budget, this is going first on my grocery list tomorrow…

I both hate and adore Target for sucking up my cash.

Looks like a dupe for Clinique Illuminator in Natural.

Ooh, very pretty! It might be too dark for me, though (NC20-25 range). It looks great on you, however! Maybe it’ll work for me in the summer…:D

It looks great and the price isn’t too crazy. I’m sure I will be looking for this the next time I’m at Target.

I’m loving that colour and wish Sonia Kashuk is here in the UK. I might just have to go on a hunt for a bargain illuminator too.

Are there particular consistancies/ingredients a girl gotta spot if she wants to mix her illuminator with moisturiser (containing SPF), Karen? I want to avoid splitting the formula.

    Hey Karen,

How would you say this compares to Smashbox’s Photo Op undereye brightener? Could this replace that (I stumbled onto your review of that product and am trying to figure out whether to buy Sonia Kashuk, Smashbox, or just stick to my new Girl meets Pearl).
