Thursday Greetings and Funny Faces With My New Favorite Face Makeup Combo

July 19th, 2012 by Karen 68 Comments

For the love of husky tabbies! — yesterday I could not take a normal picture to save my life.

I don’t know how Tabs and Tyra do it. Some days it just seems, by my expression in every single pic, that I look like I accidentally stepped in dog poop:

But wait, it gets better…

LOL!

I do have a point, and it is this: I have a new favorite face makeup combo that I’ve been dying to tell you about — NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer topped with a little bit of Hourglass Oxygen Foundation Powder.

Together, the two make magic happen! Great coverage (I’d say it’s about a smidgen above medium, just shy of full), feels comfy and lightweight, and it looks like real skin.

Doesn’t look half bad in pictures, either (assuming I don’t look like I just stepped in dog poop).

Additional makeup worn in this look…

  • MAC Concrete Eyeshadow: Brows
  • NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base: Lids
  • Urban Decay Supercurl Mascara: Lashes
  • MAC 20 Lash: Lashes
  • Dior 3-Couleurs Glow in 651 Nude Glow: Lids, water lines and lash lines
  • NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer in Cuba and St. Moritz: Face
  • Hourglass Oxygen Foundation Powder in No. 4: Forehead, nose and chin
  • MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NW25 and Care Blends Essential Oils in Grapefruit + Chamomile: Under eyes
  • MAC Lipstick in Ravishing: Lips
  • Neutrogena MoistureShine Gloss in Flirty Pink: Lips
  • MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Give Me Sun: Back of my cheeks
  • Tom Ford Beauty Cheek Color in Love Lust: Apples of my cheeks

What face makeup have you been wearing lately? Anything amazing I should know about?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

      Hi Dani,

I’ve been some new skin care products that I think are making the difference — Skinceuticals CE Ferulic, B5 Hydrating Gel and the B5 Mask.

I did. It’s really working well for me so far. I’m gonna wait until I finish the bottle. If I’m moved enough to get a second one, then I’ll do a review. But so far, I think it’s AWESOME.

Now that it’s summer, my skin has more colour (hallelujah!) and is behaving quite well! So I’m just using Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage to spot conceal, and going over the whole face with MAC MSF Natural.

And I can’t forget the bronzer! Guerlain Terracotta Light is my crack! 🙂

I hope you and Tabs are having a wonderful day so far, Karen!

      Hi Agata!

Thank you. 🙂 Yup, I’m wearing false lashes — the MAC 20 corner lashes.

I’ve been practicing every night before I take off my makeup. I know, so siilly, but I figure it’s like any other skill. If you do it over and over it soon becomes second nature.

The corner ones are also slightly easier to apply, which helps!

      Do you wear falsies often?

I have never worn false lashes for the reason that I have no clue how to apply them…I have never really even tried, it just seems too difficult. But maybe I should give them a try and practice because they do look stunning.

You should try it! I used to think that it was very hard, and it’s awkward at first, but after a few tries it does get easier. I actually practiced putting them on without the glue first just so I could get the motion down. All I do is hold them with a pair of tweezers and then drop them directly onto my lashes. It’s that easy!

    My current face routine is:

Base: A mix of Make Up Forever Mat Velvet + in Alabaster 15 mixed with sunscreen (Vanicream SPF 60)

Concealer: Coastal Scents Camo Quad (the Peachy-Pinky shade neutralizes my undereye circles like nothing else!)

Blush: Cream Blush (Revlon or Bobbi Brown, I switch colors)

I don’t usually wear powder, but I do use the Urban Decay All Nighter spray on a regular basis.

      Hi Chelsea,

I know a lot of people who adore that spray! One of these days I’ll get around to trying it. Do you take it with you when you’re out and about? Or do you just spray it on in the morning and you’re good for the rest of the day?

I just do it once in the AM, and it seems to make my makeup last better. It’s not necessary for me in winter really (in the Midwest) but it definitely helps when it’s hot and I get sweaty! I used that on my brother’s wife for their wedding (along with Laura Mercier Primer and MUFE Mat Velvet foundation) and her makeup lasted all night with no touchups, despite warm weather, dancing, and stress!

Karen 🙂 You look amazing! I’ve been trying out the NARS tinted moisturizer but I find it a wee bit too oily for me. I do use it on top of primer though (it’s a habit). Maybe I should use it without primer.

My current favourite combination is Laura Mercier’s new Oil Free Supreme foundation on top of Bare Escentuals Prime Time primer. The foundation is really nice and has a somewhat matte finish. I do use a bit of MAC’s ProLongwear concealer on top and some finishing powder – depending on my mood, either Laura Mercier’s loose powder, MAC’s Prep+Prime powder or sometimes MSF.

Laura’s new foundation is good stuff. It covers EVERYTHING, doesn’t it? What shade do you use? The one that’s closest to my skin is just a touch too red, but I grab it on occasion.

Lately I have been flip-flopping between Bobbi’s Skin Foundation and MAC NW30. Depends on my mood. Cheeks – DollyMix by MAC (makes my eyes POP). Bobbi’s gel liner in black or brown done really thin (ever smudge this out? I haven’t but wonder if it would work) combined with a nude eye with a bit of dark gold as a contour. Lips – naked. I don’t do lipstick or gloss on a regular basis.

Loving the facial expressions! Your eyelashes look really pretty and your skin looks flawless 🙂 In the summer I don’t wear a lot of stuff on my face (if anything other than tinted moisturizer with SPF), just because with the sweat and sunscreen I break out with at least a few zits. If I’m doing sporty stuff or I know there’s a good chance I will sweat a lot, I just wear Aveeno Positively Radiant SPF 15 or Jergens Natural Glow for Face in Medium/Tan (since I wash my face twice a day, I go with the formula that gives you more glow) SPF 20 with eye makeup with a good primer. If I’m going out, I might us Garnier BB cream and Physician’s Formula Mineral Pearls in Light topped with Bare Minerals Mineral Veil SPF 25.

Rather strapped for time lately, so its just MAC Studio Fix, NARS Desire Blush and Anastasis Brow Whiz for me and out the door. I am thinking of another compact powder, MAC one can look rather cakey for the first 2 hours or so until my natural skin oilies sort of blend into them?? am i making sense? LOL

Do you use a brush or sponge with the Hourglass Oxy Compact? Any other products from HourGlass worth a 2nd look? I get VERY distracted in Sephora if you allow free play. HAHA!
